  • Aerial Filmworks is working with the Grand Canyon National Park to film the national park using the Cineflex V14HD. This amazing gyro-stabilized aerial system uses an integrated Sony CineAlta HDC1500 camera. The lens is a 42x 9.7mm Fujinon. All footage was recorded 1080/23.98p dual-link 4:4:4 to a Sony SRW1 deck on HDCAM SR tape stock.
The original HDCAM SR source tapes were digitized using an AJA Kona3 card to a MacPro 8 core with 17Gb RAM, and edited with Final Cut Pro at our inhouse edit suite.
The Cineflex V14HD was mounted on the nose of a Bell 206B3 Jet Ranger helicopter. We worked closely with the national park to make sure all permissions and permits were in place. Daily updates to local air traffic control and the tour helicopter companies were sent on flight days. Our pilot was specifically approved for the operation by the FAA and Department of Interior. We mapped reference points to the GPS and input sensitive condor nesting areas that we needed to avoid. Natural resource and wildlife managers reviewed our flight plans.
The Aerial Filmworks team believes in doing our part to maintain a carbon neutral planet. Through a partnership with TerraPass, we invest in carbon offsets for every hour of flight time that our Cineflex equipment is on a helicopter.

Everyone needs to visit the Grand Canyon at least once in their lifetime. No matter how good the photography (& this was excellent), it can not take the place of being there. 1988 was my 1st visit & I hope to see it again.

I've always wanted to become an astronaut and visit space and other planets, but I am realising that our home is still the most stunning and wonderful creation ever made. Earth is full of color and life, we cannot say that about the other planets we know. The Grand Canyon is just one of the many beautiful sceneries Earth has to offer us. People should realise that and respect Earth and its creatures, because we would be nothing without them. Our planet is the most precious thing we have.

When I visited the Grand Canyon I was in such awe all that I could think was, "This is holy ground". It certainly made me realize where I, a mere human, stood in the scheme of things.

If you remember the 1991 movie "Grand Canyon" where Kevin Klein, Danny Glover and families first see the Grand Canyon from the parking lot- that is what put the hook in me to see it in person a few years later.
The end scene musical score from that movie is a masterpiece along with the helicopter flyover by John Sarviss.

Yeah - most places in the world you have to climb mountains to see spectacular, expansive landscapes. At the Canyon you park your car, after driving along a pretty much flatish road for ages, and walk to the edge and look down into this amazing world. When you see it for yourself, you'll know exactly what I mean.

I know that the existance of a more complicated planet than ours is possible, but we earthlings have to respect and take care of what we have, before we go out there and do the same thing we are doing now with our Earth, and I am talking about the influence humans have on Earth. Not only we gotta think about our own safety but also about the planet's and everything it surrounds. Look at how we

But you have yet to really see any other planets!! These natural formations, the way planets form...there are consistencies, earth, mars, the moon all share similar geological phenomenon. Other planets in our solar system also have storm systems like our own, they have Northern Lights, magnetic poles, day and night, etc. All this is for SURE in our own solar system, we haven't even looked closely at planets around other stars yet. One day humanity will realize we come from nature, not creator

    about the word "awesome"
...a slice of pizza is not "awesome"
...an order of french fries or a bowl of cereal is not "awesome"
    the Grand Canyon IS "awesome"
