Finally an Aussie plant channel! I only ever see American or English plant channels and whenever they talk about a pretty plant, I look it up and am always dissappointed to find that it's not available in Australia yet :( Thanks for this video! :)
I just found your channel and now a new owner of this begonia. It was a rescue from a plant clearance rack. It isn't in too bad of shape. I have it near a window but not in direct sun. Also, I have a grow light near it.
I got one today, but the only nice pot I have has no holes at the bottom. I planted it with a chunky orchid mix. I plan to water it over the sink and use my hand to drain the pot well after watering, by tipping it upside down. I've done the same for my alocasia's and they are doing great. I'm in Sydney too and this guy has gone in my bedroom where I have artificial lighting. Since it's not hot sunlight I'm hoping that it would be alright. Thank you for the video and it's great to have someone in Australia doing plant videos, as certain plants that other overseas plant people have are sometimes impossible to get here, plus our climate is much different to theirs in the northern hemisphere. Thank you!
jessypotplants it’s been going well but recently grey Fungus started growing on top of the soil and there’s little brown bugs crawling in there. I don’t know if this should raise concerns
@@melissaalexandra9593 I know its months later but I just saw this comment. When fungus appears try putting some hydrogen peroxide in your water. for bugs spray some neem oil on the soil and foliage!
This is my first video of yours I’ve stumbled upon. I watched maybe 30 seconds before I knew I had to subscribe. You seem so wholesome and wonderful 😭 Please keep filming outside. YOU ARE AMAZING ✨✨
Hi Helen! Thank you so much for the supportive comment - I really appreciate it and sorry its taken me a month to reply unfortunately! Hope you're wightii is bringing you lots of joy! Mine went dormant over winter but now has new growth!
I just got my first plants (two polka dot begonias) and it's the first video I've watched about taking care of plants and I absolutely enjoyed it. much better than websites since you covered lots of good points normal articles didn't. And i think the way you enjoy being there with your plants and making videos is adorable! keep up the good work!
I got my gorgeous Spotted Begonia today thanks for the video! Melbournian here so our humidity is less than yours in Sydney but excellently helpful as mine was on its own at Bunnings and in need of some love ❤️
Also, just wanted to let you know I found another Sydney plantuber! Called plantyange. She does some good plant shopping videos. So nice to have Aussie plantubers! Thanks for your hard work!
ooo!! I just watched some of her videos!! thanks for the recommendation!! I really like the house plant tour! Don't mention it lovely! Thank YOU for your time and the support!
Love your videos! They are so calming and your smile is so bright and warm :) your passion for your plants really comes across in your content. I love how you share interesting little facts about them too along with your tips. You have such a sweet, soothing vibe and I'm delighted to have found your channel. Many thanks my dear!
I don’t know if you will see this now but I have a huge cane begonia and a extra large one that I propagated. The flowers are dark pink in the summer when I have it outside but pail pink inside during the winter. I live in NC, USA
So glad you are feeling better. Thanks for your hard work making care videos. Hope you can have another nice rest today. It's been beautiful weather. It was even hot yesterday in the sun! Have a good day!
Thank you so much love! I really appreciate it! I was such great weather wasnt it!! Today's a bit chilly aye! I was thinking that it would be an amusing contrast as I get on today's video and say today's so chilly when yesterday I was commenting on how lovely and warm it was for the first day of winter!!
Thank you so much for your beautiful vidéo :) Now my begonia will be so much better with all your advices ! You have a lovely voice, it's so pleasant to listen to you. Have a beautiful day !
Such a beautiful plant! Thank you for the plant care tips! I received some Neem oil & indoor plant food drops from my mum so might figure out how to use them in our plants! Lovely video, although the music as a bit loud. You have a lovely and soft voice. Perhaps putting the volume of the song slightly lower will make it even better. ❤️😍
If I had that plant I believe I would call it a she since she’s wearing polka dots, My mother had one in our bathroom where it got lots of humidity and a great deal of indirect light, It bloomed often.🤩I’m looking to add one to my collection as soon as I can find one! Thanks for the tips
Hey Paula! haha i definitely see the she in it! Tbh i think my plants are both genders because flip between calling the same plant he/she!! Your mother's plant sounds gorgeous! those do sound like great conditions. Hope you find one soon and thank you for stopping by my channel!
Aw thanks so much Eve! I really appreciate it 😊😊 You're too kind! I hope you find a wightii soon! If you're based in Australia GreenBeanz occasionally has some wightii at some reasonable prices!
Hi Jessy, I'm glad your feeling much better today and can you conider Begonia Maculata an easier Begonia to take care for? Because I killed all my Begonias 😭 And I do like to have a Begonia in my collection but don't know which are easy. Thanks for sharing your care tips xx
Thank you lovely!! Yes I think it is definitely easier than other begonias for 1. their leaf texture makes them less susceptible to rot and 2. cane begonias I find, tend to be less fussy than other begonias. I hope you consider adding this one to your collection - he's got great foliage!! Thank you so much for stopping by - I hope your week is off to a great start!
Hi I just recently acquired this plant and it's easier to keep higher humidity in my bedroom with my other plants. My other plants are phal orchids and some oncidium types too (sharry babies), but they grow under a LED grow light that gives off a pinkish hue because of the blue and red combined light it has. Would my maculata be okay with this? Thanks :)
I got my begonia online and it arrived drentched in water , all of it's leaves fell off :(( i changed its soil and left it to try , hope it will recover.
Do you recommend bottom watering your plant? U did it and then the leaves turned yellow ? I thought I was watering it once a week but my gosh I freaked out when it turned yellow and some are browning at the tips . I think that’s due to humidity ?
Hi Jessy! My begonia wightii just had root rot and i did repot her into the new soil. But what would you recommend to do during winter? I still see some new growth on it but I'm not sure if I should put it in the glass house :(
hey mira! I'd suggest keep him indoors over winter and a glass house would provide an extra layer of protection. I wouldn't recommend giving it too much humidity tho
I had to order mine from Logees after waiting a long time for it to come back in stock. I got it around fall so after overwintering she's a little tired looking. It's my fave but I think I need to prune and propagate to make her more full. I was wondering if I should put it outside, when it recovers. I think I have an idea for a location now. Thanks for the vid!
Heya! Thanks for your comment! Pleased you found the information helpful!! i bet the outdoors location you have in mind would be a treat for your wightii!
I love your channell!!💕 I just bought this todayy.. love the video! Btww.. are you based in Sydney ? Bcs I think I saw you with your golden retriever at the plant pop up store today, or maybe I got it wrong 😂
I’m watching this to find out how to bring mine back to life 😂💗 my leaves are really pale green compared to yours!! Also lots of crisping. I tried a humidifier and a humidity cloche two separate times to help but it made leaves drop :( ugh!
Good luck Elizabeth!! would suggest keeping an eye out on the humidity - i find the maculata doesnt need that much humidity (and also could encourage rot)
I'm watching this video because I probably let my begonia maculata dry out too much ..Although I watered it well after I saw one stem being soft, it's only gotten worse with stems and leaves softening and drooping..
@@jessypotplants it is summer and we are experiencing a massive heat wave these days.. I tried checking the roots but they are so delicate and thin and I cannot understand much. In my other houseplants the roots are thick and crispy white so it's easier to tell the difference between healthy and unhealthy..
Enjoyable! Makes a great, drought tolerant tropical bedding plant in hot humid climates like mine in North Carolina. Put it with some Coleus....smashing. Can you verify the source of your history? Begonia maculata Raddi var . wrightii Fotsch , Die Begonien : 93. 1933 was published in the 1930's for a larger-leaved, paler green form of the species. It also appears in Roy Genders Begonia monograph in 1958. The species was collected in Brazil before 1820. I'm not sure who started calling it 'Wightii' without the "r" but this is a perfect example of RUclips and social media perpetuating errors.
