Yes he also refers to his style as being “stylized” recently. He’s settling into his own signature style which is really cool, even if it’s not strictly realistic. I think it was since his WW1 trench diorama that he started changing his style up. Stuff looks ultra-realistic and vibrant. Whereas real life is kinda dull. I think it’s good. Lots of models from different modellers can look exactly the same because they just go for a strictly realistic look. Having a signature style which looks better than real life is cool. The way he textures the base colours, the way he pin washes, the way he paints cloth and leather and wood, are all really unique and look like they’re out of a comic, even though it still looks realistic.
How about a Soviet era Hind Mi-24 crashed in the Afghanistan desert? Lots of opportunity for battle damage and diorama. Your attention to detail is exquisite. Thank you for sharing your art!
really neat. i had a 65 cruiser. you missed the actual locations of true damage. the rear corners would be a mess, rust and crumples . front fenders on outer corners as well. the rear quarter panels behind the rear wheels and at the bottom of the front fenders. would be looking holey too... your paint work as usual, is beauty sir.nice work.
I wish I had a fraction of your talent but I still enjoy watching you demonstrate what can be done by the Master! I enjoy your videos and look forward to the next one.
I actually fought in one of these vehicles while serving in Afghanistan and appreciate the details you included in this model. I would suggest adding more wear on the machine gun especially around the heat sinks (ridges around he barrel) as they get a ton of rub while just from everyday wear. Otherwise very beautiful model and one of my favorite video series.
I like to pain the silver for chipping under the paint and use masking, Then you can rub the overcoats when you're weathering and the paint actually looks like the metal is underneath and the paint edges are raised a little, you can even simulate peeling. Rust goes on afterward as it is a surface effect.
A small light blue rusty and dusty car model, where have I’ve seen that before 😄😉 Awesome paint job Martin! Really like the contrasts you use, they look ‘comic book’ style alike and I mean that as a big compliment. The tarps are great too. Thank you for being an inspiration! 👍
I'd say there's a big difference between paint chipped off from vehicles abandoned somewhere, where large sections start rusting through and consistent weathering, you'll get big sections entirely flake. But in my experience, rust patterns from wear and tear are quite different. They happen in very small areas around spots where they body (and protective paint) would get damaged or worn frequently, or in corners where water settles in and doesn't get cleaned off with normal use. Just sitting in a field somewhere, the rust will start in more sun and water exposed areas where water pools and sun destroys the paint, and you get the large chunks. So the pattern of rust tells a bit of a story on the life of the vehicle. Was it abandoned? Was it just used hard and not taken care of? Or was it mostly well cared for, but has a little bit around solid dents. You see this on real, cared for military vehicles. Especially those in salty environments.
Love that classic rusty blue paint vibe. Nice work with the stowage as well. I enjoy oil paints because they are more my speed (haha very slow!) they also have a pretty good ability to go from 0-100% opacity since as you mentioned they are not premixed. In some of the areas, it looked like you applied the oils with very little thinner at all. I find that dramatically increases the drying time and it is very rare for me to apply "full opacity" oils at all. I will usually mix in a good bit of thinner and work up the effects from very thin to slightly thicker. It is also much easier for me to wet blend with oils as they are workable for much longer- but I really do like your tip on speckling as that is one of my favorite methods. Recently, I have been watching Rick Lawler use weathering pencils with oils and he can do some pretty interesting effects simultaneously as the mediums do not interact with each other at all. Take care, my friend! I am looking forward to the BIG project
Producing stunning results as always. I was about to say the tarp that was on the seat looked like a T-shirt and that made me realise... you have never put clothes on their own as part of the storage... maybe it could be worth it to make the vehicle look more lived in? I dunno, perhaps some clothes drying on the engine deck, soaked in mud because Hans forgot to take them inside or just torn appart
Can I just say this thing looks like it would be fun to thrash around? Like if it was a full size Land Cruiser. I feel like it’d be a good time on four wheels, thrashing it around without caring about bodywork damage
I'm still learning how everything works and why you do certain stuff, but after that pinwashing, it makes it look "outlined" like something out of Borderlands or something. I know this probably makes obvious sense, but its how my brain made sense of it xD Looks very cool
How did you remove the enamel wash? clean brush or with a damp brush? this was beautiful to see thanks for the vid, I'm getting into miniature painting and this was easy to understand and appreciate
You'd need to use a damp brush. Usually, enamels go dry to the touch relatively quickly, so you need some enamel thinner to reactivate them for blending.
Great paint job Martin. I'm interested in getting one of these kits after someone releases a resin wheel set for it. IMHO tires look very toyish, like the old MIG Hilux.
Seems to me like the only part "alive" in this one are the front lights. I guess that's because all the other surfaces have no specularity whatsoever. Everything seems to be matte and while I understand that it's a dusty technical, even in well used and rusty cars you still see some specular highlights and light reflectins from the paint where it's polished precisely because of use (e.g. steering wheel and edges of faux leather seats). I'd say it looks like straight out of Borderlands game. While this kind of painting is perfectly fine for armor, I think giving it maybe some areas of gloss varnish could help a lot. Still, your familiarity with color theory and grasp of artistry is impeccable and the model is as usual (and despite some minor flaws) beautiful.
Just found you’re channel and now binge watching all of you’re videos. One thing i noticed, its not always clear when you use a clear coat and if its matt/gloss etc. Could you explain when you use them and how you decide what type to use?
I would love to see you make a post apocalyptic war diorama with like dead bodies or skeletons old rotting husk of destroyed tanks with destroyed building
8:40 The moment when Jackson Pollock both makes sense and continues to be less interesting and authentic than the discarded consumables of other painters.
Ypu should try and mske another car model, like a Ute, and turn it into VBIED. I reckon the potential for textures on that would be pretty amazing and similar-ish to armour 😁
Marten, Russian/Soviet cartridge cases are not brass. They are lacquered steel. A brown color with a sort of green hue. They have been using it since at least WWII. The actual projectile is usually a brass- or copper- covered steel core. Great video tho.
Anyone else finding uncle night shift’s models increasingly cell-shaded looking? Like something out of the Borderlands series?
Yes!, I think It looks perfect. But now that you say it,it’s similar to Borderlands
You are not wrong 😀😀

@@Chevsilverado Let's agree, with his skills, he can do whatever style he wants 😀
For sure. Right at the beginning, with the black outline being done, it definitely brought that to mind.
I owned a Toyota Land Cruiser, it was an absolute rust bucket, you nailed it.
You make this look so easy and the end result is always flawless. Amazing job!
I agree!
100% and his technich is flawless, i applied what i could learn from his videos in my latest build and the results improved by a loooooot
@@mauriciokenway9922 So true
@@mauriciokenway9922 Exactly!
Combined with a Challenger or a Bradley with infantry looking around it or searching it would make an awesome, yet large diorama. Awesome model!
It's always a treat when you get a Nightshift Upload!
Even after following you for a long time i am still impressed off what your models look like in the end.
How about a Soviet era Hind Mi-24 crashed in the Afghanistan desert? Lots of opportunity for battle damage and diorama. Your attention to detail is exquisite. Thank you for sharing your art!
The tarps on the rear looked great, and I agree, the rust on top of the blue is a pleasing combination. Nice work!
Always used Kleenex for tarpage. Rolled or folded , then tied and painted with thinned colours so it soaks in quickly. Looks very canvas
Hey Nightshift, have you ever considered doing a model plane? I would love to see you weather one of those.
I already asked him,he said no!!
Wow ! What a model ! It's terrific and It's always a pleasure to see your videos and your masterpieces ! Carry on ma friends !😉
Oils came out great! I use oils and use a hairdryer to dry it. Works great!

Utterly outstanding work, the stand out for me, has to be the blanket on the driver’s seat, the depth blows me away, gonna steel that old needle idea!

Thank you , Uncle Martin .

So beautiful👍👍👍👍
Very nice job. Truck looks great
the shots of you rotating the model in your hand are surreal; the shading "pops" like cel-shaded animation.
I like how that weathering really transforms the model.

It's like magic. Wonderfull!!! I've learned a lot! Thanks.
loveley to see, how miniaturepainting and war modelling is coming together more and more!

came out great would look awesome also with some spent cartridges in the back
You’re amazing. Thank you!
Will this be added into a Toyota Wars diorama?
Sometimes a change in direction is good for future motivation 🙂 A very nice piece of work again.
That contrast rocks.
Ok, I’ll subscribe. Great work on this model.
Happy Friday everybody! Thanks for the great video Uncle Nightshift!

Most impressive technique...Truly superb!
Another idea, (Which I've done) it have resprayed panels. as if whoever owned it tried to hide some of the rust with an off-colored shade of blue

4:45 I mean, look at the Guld racing colours on the old GT40s.
You could also try fast dry thinners from Abteilung to speed up the drying process.
Another Awesome build my friend!!
Amazing work. You should separate bullets and shells on the ammunition belt by changing the colors. It makes a huuuuge difference!
Yes, brass versus copper jacket.
Nice work maestro!
Looks incredible

This has a very Borderlands vibe going on - nice!
Cool model!

It's so crazy, I'm literally 2 hours away from Michigan toy soldiers headquarters. I'm definitely going to have to order some stuff
Wow it look good
Have you ever considered, kit-bashing a sci fi spaceship? Or steam-cyber-puck? I would love to see your take on something like that.
That is honestly really nice. Maybe try a kubelwaggen?
thanks for sharing the video
😄
Awesome work!
Please please please do more technicals or at least more car dioramas/4x4 Dios!! This looks wonderful!
Man that’s awesome! Have you thought about doing an SAS jeep or LRDG truck? Really enjoy watching your videos 👍
I was wondering why I didn't like the seats then I realized the seats didn't have tears and cushion parts visible
It’s got a very ‘ lit by moonlight’ feel. One of those huge , desert moons?
Do a jungle vignette! The more plants the better!
Looks totally awesome. Great done. All the best for You! ;)
Hey muh friend can you please tell me what brush you are using for the chipping(brand and number ) thank you. 😁
Nice. Would be cool to see it combined with one of your modern tanks like that Syrian one you did a year or so back.
Great video and can make miniart panzer 3 ausf d/b
Tenho a impressão de que a sua pintura é mais cartunesca do que realista... acho que tem muito contraste... obrigado!!

One question, once finished did you give it any protection/varnish? which, thanks

NOT TOO BAD TALK ABOUT A CLASSIC BATTLE FIELDS MODEL.

Could you explain when you use them and how you decide what type to use?
Suggestion for a new build: 1/72 German Railway Gun Leopold :)
The earth weathering with oils looks so great, way smoother than enamels to me. Too bad there is the bad point with dry times🤨
Wow, could you paint my car like that, might need bigger paint cans though... 😁
You should make a sturmtiger
What gol paint did you use for the machine gun bullets?
Should be brass on the cases and copper bullets. And a dark steel belt.
I would love to see you make a post apocalyptic war diorama with like dead bodies or skeletons old rotting husk of destroyed tanks with destroyed building

IIRC, Chinese ammo is brass cased.
"Nice Cragslist vibe" So it's high mileage, has a questionable title, and is overpriced? lol
Another incredible build.
Hello from France. As usual it's an amazing work. Which size of paintbrush do you use for painting chipping and wood ?
Looks like a 5/0 or so, but use the biggest brush you have with a fine point.
Bigger brushes hold more paint and it won't dry out as fast.
