- "Disney magic brings life to this brand-new comedic and musical retelling of the truth-stretching puppet who miraculously transforms into a real boy! Drew Carey (The Drew Carey Show) stars as the man whose dearest wish to be a father is granted by the sparkling Blue Fairy (Seinfeld's Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Original music combines with timeless classic songs as Geppetto encounters the everyday challenges of raising a child. When Pinocchio is lured away to join the sneaky Stromboli and Pleasure Island troublemakers, Geppetto discovers what it really means to be a father who must embark on on a dangerous to reunite with his missing son. Your entire family will love this heartwarming and fun new Disney musical production of one of the world's greatest stories!"
Apologies for the imperfect transfer, but it turns out the VHS I used was previously a rental copy so I'm actually surprised it looks this good in the first place.
Transferred from an out-of-print VHS because everyone deserves to witness the cheese and sappiness that is Geppetto. I had nothing to do with this movie let alone try to claim anything as my own, simply trying to keep what few out-of-print VHSes I have alive.
Geppetto (c) Disney
Am I the only one who genuinely enjoys this movie and grew up with this movie? I'm 23 turning 24 and this movie still gives me the same feeling I had when I first watched it.
me too! I love it, don't understand why people are trash talking it so much. Maybe I have low standards, maybe it's the nostalgia speaking, but this film gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, it's so easy to watch and the songs are so lovely
It's genuinely not bad. Much more creative than most live action remakes we've been getting nowadays, so I don't know why it gets made fun of so much. 🤷🏼♂️
Nah you're not the only one. I love watching this movie, ever since I was little.
Because Drew Carey (gepetto) always talked about how shitty this movie was on his show "whose line is it anyways"
Listen, I enjoy this movie so much that I think it needs a sequel! Like, this movie was so good!!!
Am I the only one watching this because they always made fun of drew on who's line for this movie?
Whose Line brought me here too.
it brought me here as well xD
yess
Same!
im here cuz the vhs tape broke.
"Hope you don't mind, I just thought we could sit here and watch Geppetto!" this whole comment section is gonna be nothing but Whose Line puns!
how did 78 people upvote such a drastic misuse of the word pun
Ryan Stiles : "Do you know Drew Carey at first turned down the role of Gepetto!!" ha ha ha ha!!!

I miss Drew Carey on a TV comedy series
Now he just rakes in huge bundles of loot on a game show. Waste of talent. He does a whack of the game show all at once a few times a year so surely he can do another series; even if was only a dozen or so episodes a year.
I have his other series with chubs but still . . .
Clever man and his talents are being wasted.
Wayne: Drew doesn't do a damn thing!
@@fullmetalgamer6062 not a damn thing
This movie is legitimately better than the 2022 Pinocchio movie
Except the cricket isn’t this first Disney first live action version
But it doesnt beat johnthan taylor thomas verison so stfu

They're both great, there's no need for that smartass input.
A childhood favorite of mine! Drew Carey is GREAT as Geppetto!
I wondered if he gave any advice to Tom Hanks because he is playing Geppetto in Disney’s newest adaptation of Pinocchio.
Also, I would like to add that Brent Spiner is absolutely relishing this role as Stromboli! He's awesome in this!
Chase McAndrew And of course, there is the matter of the little *CONTRACT WE SIGNED!!!*
Wait, Ltd. Commander Data played Stromboli?!?!?
@@davidmcaninch4714 yep
I can never describe how much I loved this movie as a kid and still do! I don't care how much people make make of it or Drew, or even Drew making fun of himself for doing it, it's SO good! Much better than people think! It's such a charmer!
I'm sorry but, looking back on it I never realized how much Drew Carey looked like Peter Griffin on Family Guy in this movie
Because he's fat?
Alex Wolk here's the list of why he thinks that:
1: he's fat
PlatinumSpoons What about his glasses?
Minus the fact that Geppetto is kind- hearted and decent, while Peter is a repulsive creep.
Hey Lois
I remember this movie briefly, but when the songs started playing, I suddenly remembered the lyrics and the whole movie!
Drew Carey is a surprisingly good singer when hes serious
"And take me on ah...oh I'm sorry, one word"
Hahaha that hasselhoff reference
@@randomguy_764 no that was drew carey
It's so weird to see the negative toward this movie. I was probably no older than a lot of the kid actors in this movie when I was saw it with my grandmother (who's now passed away). Though it wasn't a staple of what I watched as a child, it helped me with my depression, letting me cry during the end, and it reminds me of my dad who had watched Drew Carey all the time when I was young. It's cheesy and the effects aren't great, but this movie holds a special place in my heart.
I love Drew Carey
I wish this movie will be streaming on Disney+.
Me too.
@Michael Schultz I love Cinderella that stars Brandy Norwood and Whitney Houston! It's my favourite film! I'm so happy that its on Disney plus! 😁
I've never seen this movie but it was actually pretty good. I had no idea that Drew Carey can sing! We all know him for his TV show The Drew Carey Show and for Julia Louis-Dreyfus from Seinfeld. I was not expecting them to have good singing voices! Even for Usher to be in this is pretty interesting! Thank you for uploading the movie, Bridget Bradley.
You had no idea he can sing? obviously you never saw him in Whose Line Is It Anyway. In fact, that magician character at the 46:30 mark is Wayne Brady who appears as a regular comedian on the show.
@@Videogameboy1989 I also didn't know Brent Spiner, the guy who plays Data on Star Trek, could sing either until I saw this and Out to Sea.
1:21:07 "This is very nice (Stromboli pushes Geppetto) BUT I WANT THE BOY". Hilarious
Hahahahhhaha very funny part of the scene
1:23:56 is hilarious when he says “ you can’t do this to me!”
Did you know? Julia Louis-Dreyfus dreamed of playing the blue fairy when she was six years old! Well, fourteen years ago, her dream came true.
16 you mean
+Tamara F Bitar that comment was made two years ago
You are both wrong.
Ya the comment was made 5 years ago and the movie was made 19 years ago, get your facts straight
I don't know why but the song at the end really makes me tear up :')
I have been SEARCHING for this movie online for like a year. & it is like literally NOWHERE else. Thank you for uploading it I am in cahoots in a good way. I'm so excited to watching this effing movie right now.
I love you
this will remain better than the 2022 Disney version

I really enjoyed watching this. Drew really sings well :)
I was like, "YOU BETTER SING, BABY!"
MieKayla Singleton, Drew must be a musician.
I didn't even know that he can sing!
This movie was hilariously awful tho
@@MichaelBrown-rg8oi no it wasn't. Well, at least I don't think so.
I'm here because of Whose Line, and I skimmed through it and realized Blue Fairy rhymes with Drew Carey. WUT
I never thought of that until I saw this comment! What a coincidence!
Drew Carey: "Bernjorno"
Real Italian extra: "Buongiorno signore"
Drew Carey: * *In head* *
"I have the power to hire and fire"
Just realized this movie is already 20 years old...
I bought the vhs at toys r us from my first trip to California. Good memories...
I remember watching this, the Pinocchio with Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Cinderella with Brandy and Whitney Houston on The Wonderful World of Disney on ABC. I loved when they came on.
This movies more of a tear jerk than I thought it’d be. Definitely deserves every ounce of praise as a great adaptation of a childhood favorite story.
THE GOOD NEWS AND THE BAD NEWS:
"Merry Christmas, Tommy! Look! It's 'Gepetto' on DVD!!" ---Greg
😂😂😂
Julia Louis-Dreyfus so beautifully gorgeous with her amazing voice!
Yes
After all these years I finally decided to watch this to see if it was as bad as people make it seem, but it really wasn't bad at all. I mean sure it's very cheesy and a bit generic but it was amusing to watch!
I used to watch this on VHS A
*Lot*
As a kid, it feels like a fever dream now.
It's 90s-tastic! This was hidden away in some corner of my mind.
The Ringleader in Pleasure Island kinda reminds me of Dr. Facilier in The Princess and the Frog
Me too!!
He's definitely a better/more believable descendant than Freddie!
Plis, he's played by Usher.😍
This, Descendants, the animated Pinocchio, and Toy Story 4 are my favorite Disney movies.

My childhood. Man I missed this movie.

I don't see this as any rendition of Pinochio. It's basically Drew Carey the Movie
Best comment i have ever read
Minus the money
grownnewman In my opinion, this was considered the first live-action Disney remake I ever saw.
Don't go there.
Just put MiMi in here and it will be complete
People make fun of this movie? I quite like it. It's got a lot of heart in it. It seems to be a personal passion project of Drew Carey, and unlike some movies like that, it's not stuck up it's own ass with someones ideology or pet interests.
Lol the guys on Whose Line roasted him hard when it came out🤣
Fun Fact: The actor who portrayed Pinocchio in this T.V. film also voiced Pinocchio in Kingdom Hearts (2002) video game.
Omigod I finally found it!!!! I have been looking for this for eons!!! I used to watch this at my babysitter's house. I thought I imagined it or that it was played by Robin Williams. So glad this still exists!
LOL, Brent Spiner is just so funny, LOL.
Stromboli?!
I'm here because I remember watching this in music class back when I was in elementary school.
Same!
Wow. Data and Odo are high as kites.
At 48:20 a large part of me hoped and prayed that the remaining 40 minutes were just Wayne Brady repeatedly lighting things on fire

The occult esoteric undertones of the story of Pinocchio are overwhelming
How so is this the occult? Interesting you mentioned this
I love this film! My favourite Pinocchio ❤️
Had to watch this cuz of whose line. It actually isnt thaaaat bad. The cast surprised me with the fairy and ringmaster. Last bit was very touching
Good movie! It little confuse & argue that Geppetto's shop from beginning film that visited by LOTS family, even just few or very few family buy toys from him that Geppetto looks like Geppetto not poor, or maybe. How Geppetto know Pinocchio lying when see his nose grow long that only Blue Fairy know & do that? Anyway, this is done is done in this version. I very like the super funny from Blue Fairy!
an android and puppet working together only worthwhile part of this film. love brent spinner
I love and miss watching this movie and grew up watching it my grandma got me started watching it
I love to hear how much people enjoy this movie! Shame on disney!! Shame shame shame!!!!!
I did watching this today and it was good and Happy 20th Anniversary to Geppetto! I hope to get the 2000 VHS and 2009 DVD of this movie
Part of My Childhood I can't believe this was 15 years old were does the time go =)
Where's Jiminy Cricket when you need him?
Musical Hell was right - the whole part of the town of Idyllia is a speculative fiction goldmine. When I was a kid seeing this movie, I thought it was more interesting than the rest of the movie just thinking about what life would be like in that town! XD
thank you
The Pleasure Island Ringleader reminds me of The Leading Player in "Pippin"! Another Stephen Schwartz musical! I think this is a great movie!
Usher was so good!
Starting at 55:55, (future) NYC Ballet principal dancer Tiler Peck as a child actress. Completely adorable!
I see this and remember wanting to go to an audition for Pinocchio on Broadway. If they ever had it.
i Love This Part its FUNNY!! When Pinocchio Gets in Trouble and Starting Crying and Telling Lies for Breaking His DADs Music Boxs and Geppetto is Angry at His Son for Getting in Trouble at His First Day of School 27:11
Poor Pinocchio
Justin Sumner he needs help
Yo, that whole time, I was like, "No Geppetto, you're the one in the wrong. You told him to do what the other kids do and that's what he said. It is YOUR fault. Still love ya though."
Been meaning to look up this movie after hearing about it over and over again on Whose line is it anyway, and I am glad I can find it on RUclips.
I like how I keeps on changing from Italian to French to Spanish and back to Italian.
What if Geppetto had his very own movie?
My god I didn't hallucinate this. It's actually real.
1:12:32 this is what Pinocchio gets for not listening to Geppetto.
I slept like a log
You are a log

In this version Stromboli looks like Captain Hook and Geppetto is like Peter Griffin

I can’t explain it but Brent Spiner’s performance in this has the same energy as Mandy Patinkin’s performance in Elmo in Grouchland
Neither can I
why is no one talking about Usher

he's a very famous r&b singer

What did Figaro discuss with Geppetto from 28:06 to 28:16?
This Pinocchio is quite like the Disney version, because he is sweet really
Fitzwilliamdarcy1000 that's because it is a Disney movie
Are you kidding? This Pinocchio is a brat.
@@Crimson_Snake1 so was the Collodi one
@@queenmedesa I know. But in this one...goddamn. He's like a whiny little bitch.
However that did prove useful for my fan fiction story, Geppetto's Pride. It's an Au story where Geppetto was actually a married man and then he and his wife had Pinocchio as a real boy as their son.
But Pinocchio's mom was very sick and died in child birth, and Geppetto took the full responsibility raising him alone.
As Pinocchio grows up in it, he desperately wishes for the mother's love he never had.
He turns into a real brat at certain points after he learned the truth about what happened to his mom. And that actually surely sets up pleasure island in this story because he ran away from home after a fight with his dad.
@@Crimson_Snake1 This Pinocchio was trying to figure things out. Gepetto should’ve been more specific than “Do Exactly like the other kids so.” Whatever happened to specific guidelines such as, “Pay attention in class, obey the rules, and listen to your teacher”?
I've watched it on VHS when I was 5 maybe 😢 nostalgia
This is a better Disney live action Pinocchio movie than their live action remake
Why isn’t this on Disney plus
Brooke Johanna it probably will be in time. Disney is adding movies slowly. The mighty duck movies are supposed to be added this year.
