I saw this episode when it was first aired. I was on the floor, rolling around, crying, gasping for air! What a genius. I find it poignant that now his statement about coming out clean on network tv has an additional meaning.
Yes, I am sorry to say it is true. Bert was a wonderful person and a very good friend to my family. I will never forget him for as long as I live. I treasure the photo I have of us together at my dad's wedding. He was beautiful.
She passed away six days before my fiancée who had a health issue similar to the lady. When that news story broke of the passing of Patty Duke I could see the color drain from my dearest's face because, I believe now, she somehow was foreseeing her own end. I truly did not suspect anything when I left to keep a dinner date with my daughter who was visiting for a brief period from out of town. I got the word from my intended stepson that "Mom had a heart attack!." (I can recall his tone of voice to this moment). When the next phone call came in I _knew_ what it meant before I answered. Sad, sad time it was.
Rest in peace, dear Anna. This is also my favorite memory of Patty. So heartbroken. Hope she continues to give away the Password when she reunites with Bert in heaven...
What was Patty thinking? And then what's funnier is that she really didn't get for awhile that she had said "testimony". This is beyond hilarious. I miss really good game shows like this when it was more than just the game show -- but more like playing a game with your family and laughing constantly.
She actually gave a legitimate clue initially. She said "witness" but it was lost amid Bert's hijinks. I think she just was distracted and, since the password is "testimony" and that's the word most on her mind, that's what came out when she tried to give the clue a second time.
RIP, Rip. You made me laugh so much on TV and I laughed until my sides hurt when I saw your show in Vegas. You'll live on in videos like this one. @startrekkin58 thank you for this. I hadn't seen it.
I think that Rip Taylor was originally searching for either "epistle" or "epistolary." This is one of the funniest exchanges that I have seen. Thank you, Bert Convy, Patty Duke, and Rip Taylor. Requiscat in pace.
This was a hilarious clip - Patty was trying to be serious and it threw her off. She actually had a valid clue at first. She was a good sport about it. What surprised me was the actual Super Password.....considering what Patty Duke went through in the 70s and early 80s. She undiagnosed bipolar until 1982. She has since proven that bipolar disorder isn't such a bad thing when it's moderated. She turned it into a positive for herself and others.
I have a brother and a cousin who are bipolar and are handling it pretty well. Plus, I have Asperger Syndrome and like Patty Duke, I am trying to show the world that Asperger Syndrome is not something to be afraid of.
Powerranger6342 That's right! The diagnosis is only supposed to be for method of treatment, not a sentence. You learn about it and it empowers you. I have Social/Generalized Anxiety Disorder myself - I do know about Asperger's through my study. People freak out about that one, too. It's just anxiety! Everybody has it.
most of the stars of the 60' and '70s are not with us..all except everyone listed as a regular on the Love Boat...from the captain to his wife in season 10 to doc are all alive and well
Speaking of Match Game '90, there's a clip of Rip and Fred Travelena on the panel. Fred affectionately mocks Rip, so he whips off his wig and whacks Fred with it. :)
I was a little boy when I first saw Rip on TV and I said "This guy is NUTS!" and I've been a fan ever since. Thanks for all the laughs Rip and you look great with or without your rug.
Something about classic gameshows where they left the funny in and made the gameshow fun to watch in today’s gameshows that would have been edited out for more gameplay. R.i.p Bert Patty duke and rip Taylor also if Bert convy would have been able to do match game it probably would of lasted until 93-94 season switching to cbs with family feud being canceled in 91
Any time Rip Taylor was in something, zaniness will surely follow in his wake. This whole thing was pure comedy gold. The creme de la crème of comedy chaos! The whole scenario goes completely downhill from there and the sheer insane hilarity is timeless. Especially when Patty revealed the word! The absolute zaniness! Appropriately enough the answer to the puzzle was Nuts! They certainly were nuts.
Despite being what was perhaps the most hilarious moment in television game show history, the best part I find personally is that he stayed in character throughout. Notice how he treated the wig like another one of his props.
@fardirass - and game show producers knew how to have fun and not stick to a timed format where something like this would be cut out in favor of more Depends ads.
What is funny to me here is that many times I've seen clips of Patty screaming at Bert for blowing the puzzle or giving away the word, and looky here, she isn't immune.
Rip is fantastic, and the late Bert Convy was such a fun talent as a host and occasional Actor as well. I miss the energy, escapist fun and irreverence of the old game shows like this. Now any new game show, as few as they are, feel too contrived, forced, over serious, and are not even 1/10 as fun as the old school of game shows. Then as now, we live in a ugly world, and game shows should be light escapist fare such as this.
Rip Taylor reminds me of the guy that first greets Dorothy at the door when she arrives at the Emerald City.
And the munchkins too
Who rang that bell?
@@WastedPo yesssss
So you're saying Rip Taylor is a friend of Dorothy?
Credit to Rip, for "embarrassing" himself to take the embarrassment off of Patty. A clever, classy act
Definitely. He was a class act
I think he looked better without the toupee.
@@ochsj1971 he looked like any grandpa, instead of an odd man
he did an attention-seeking moment but for the right reasons and saved her from embarrassment
@@ochsj1971 I agree!

One of the funniest moments in game shows... and there was NOTHIN' wrong with Rip Taylor.
dylan plantenga Wayne Greene showed his bald head, & exposing that to me.
Rip Taylor looks so much better proudly exposing his bald head! He looks exactly like the mustachioed millionaire on the Monopoly game!
Rip Taylor looks like the guy from the Monopoly game without his wig on.
I totally agree
That silly old bitch! Lol
Rest in Peace, Rip Taylor. You were consistently comedy gold.
Rip Rip taylor
So sad that these three legends are gone.
Make that 4, Patty Duke-Astin, Rip Taylor, Bert Convy and Gene Wood.
Yes, I am sorry to say it is true. Bert was a wonderful person and a very good friend to my family. I will never forget him for as long as I live. I treasure the photo I have of us together at my dad's wedding. He was beautiful.
What a lovely story. Everything I’ve read about him tells how wonderful a person he was. We truly, truly, truly lost him too soon.
SO FUNNY 😂🤣 Rip Taylor was one-of-a-kind ; the most funny the most innovative comedian ever to grace a stage .
Rest in peace , great man❤️
Patty was so funny trying to be serious, Bert's laugh and of course Rip's hair raising moment, bring me here often for a good chuckle.
RIP Patty Duke. This is what I remembered always about Patty Duke.

It wasn’t the first time someone blurted out the password. Jack Parr did it twice in a row.

I heard that Rip Taylor just passed away. He was awesome. RIP Rip Taylor, you'll be missed.

A living legend of laughter. Thank you Rip Taylor for making us laugh, cry, and laugh again.

THE most hilarious moment in "Super Password" history!
R.I.P Rip Taylor, Patty Duke and Bert Convy
The look on Rip's face at 0:35 is what gets me laughing. What a guy!
This episode played yesterday on the Buzzer Network 😆
"It's my show, I can do it if I want to!" Did Bert just kick over a chair after that?
A stool.
Rip Taylor was the man!! RIP to a legend.

The "French incident" of Super Password.
Darrel Jones That was Password Plus. Tom Kennedy gave Dick Martin a talk, and Tom Kennedy almost tossed that puzzle out.
I know. My point is, THIS incident (the "Testimony" incident in the video above) was Super Password's equivalent.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Happy 75th Birthday Rip!!!
