So helpful! My dane drug me across our backyard the first day we brought her home.. (stray cat in the yard 🙄)
They're so crazy smart though, and it only took that once.. . If she feels any resistance now, she slows and turns to check.

Just rescued a Great Dane (Moose) so excited to try these methods with him on our new journey!!
How is Moose doing? We adopted a rescue last year in September. We're unsure how old Jupiter is, we were told anywhere from six months to a year and six months. At her last vet appointment (about 6 months ago), she was approx. 130lbs and about 32" at the shoulder. She's grown since then.
Very helpful. I have two other dogs - I’ve been walking our Great Dane with the other two, but that tends to teach bad behavior! I’m going to start solo walking our GD for training purposes.

My Dane is 4 and he's very loyal but gets so excited for walks he jumps on everything and pulls to see people which for them is terrifying
He's also kinda of protective so it's not so great around others. Tips for this? He's a "smaller" dane 140lb
Our Great Dane is 5 months old and SUPER excited to go for walks (uhm, runs), especially after 5 weeks of lockdown. This video is of great help and we will start training him.
What I do want to know is, how do you stop your GD from walking in front of you at home? My GD walk in front of me, stops and waits to see which way I'm going. Only problem is, I can't go anywhere because he's blocking my way. Is there a way to train him not to do this?
With mine, I would take him for walks an at first he would pull a little bit but I’d just hold the leash close enough to where we were walking next to eachother. After a while I’d let it go to abt 4 feet or so & he’d pull a bit. I’d lightly pull it back an tell him with me & he’s almost 3 now an walks behind me😂😂

So I’ve just started reading your Dane handbook. My wife and I have had dogs our whole life german Shepherds border collies and now our first Great Dane. I am now disabled and run our border collies leased to the sides of our golf cart. (We live in a retirement community that allows carts) we are aware that strenuous exercise after eating is no good do you have any thoughts about it otherwise? Thanks for any help.

his a beautiful boy.there just so cool.for my danes the best lead set up is the head holte easy to control them and much nicer for the dog then a choker chain.his name is gus the same as my boys name ha ha.ive a merle girl and my gussy is a fawn
I do love the idea of a control movement at crosswalks but a sit command is often uncomfortable for our Danes, and they often prefer do to go in full down position. In your video Gus doesn't actually sit so sort of supports our theory. This is why why crossing intersections I prefer a simple stop command. Our Dane stays at our hip...no movement until we give the a heel command to move forward. Big boi is standing straight up, fully watching us and has no need for the extra effort of half-sitting.

So my wife and I have a male and female border collies both fixed and at an early age. This maybe in your book that we purchased if so apologies for jumping the gun. What age would you neuter a male and if later why? Thanks for the time and videos.

My Gus tends to start chewing on the leash when we are not moving, especially the 30 ft leash. How can you stop them from grabbing the leash?
I have an 18 month old Daniff who is still frightened by strange adults. If out on a walk she will hide behind me, no growling or whimpering though. And even with my parents she is still super shy. She has finally started to stay still or approach my mum for a pat, but tail between her legs. With my father though she won’t stay still or approach him at all. I’ve even tried giving my parents treats to try and bribe her, but she won’t have it. However, whenever my children have friends over, whilst she doesn’t behave in the same super comfortable way she does with my children, she readily approaches and enjoys physical contact. Is this normal? Is there something I can do to make her more comfortable around strange adults?

Yes...Kuda almost automatically sits when a road is underfoot.
My Great Dane pulls so hard the second I take him out that he pulled me on the ground over 15 feet behind him, I lost a lot of skin on my legs, face, and wrist was bruised, I could not let go of the leash because it got wrapped around my wrist, I was so bloody.
I do not know what to do. I will probably have to rehome him.
I have a female great dane too... and she doesnt listen at all.. she is nice at home. But once out .. she is running pulling leash like crazy.. hurt me sometimes. Dont even recognize or look at me when out side
How to handle it..

Put the coller high on the neck. Low on the neck promotes pulling.

Not at all. He just needs practice!
Have a two month old puppy who is great dane
He doesn't like the lead at all he won't walk with it and will pull back and Try and remove it
Suggests on how to fix this or teach him
It just takes LOTS of time and practice! Do short sessions, and make sure to reward them afterwards so that they associate a positive outcome with the leash.

Hi Zack & Gus! My new puppy will not come out of the crate if he knows its time for a walk. (He will come out for food, play or snuggle time though) Please help! I don't want him to be afraid of walking on a leash, but also I wont be able to carry him down the stairs and outside much longer. Accidents are not really a problem as long as I bring him outside in time, but getting him to go out willingly with me is the challenge. I've tried high value treats and its not enough, Any tips would really help! Thanks :)
Try different high value treats, a favorite toy, and an over the top playful attitude. The latter being the most important 😉

Got a 5 month old deaf beautiful WHITE puppy SYRUS
he is still to hyper.. at the start of walking absolutely exited ..and wild... it goes down some after a while.. but he is still to short to see my hand gestures .. as I try to signal him
to slow down ..there is plenty OF distractions..plenty of tips out there for deaf GD..but nothing for a small pup.. will have one soon also down the street from us a Neighbor ...... while we got a Network of Now old Great Dane Friends ..to place every WHITE PUP
so please if you could find some training tips for deaf and little jung GD...while we need to start training as early as possible..

7-10 is the “average”, but those numbers are skewed downwards by unfortunate endings
@@GreatDaneCare There is a story in the news today that a GD in the UK has topped a record by being the oldest GD; its age is only 8!

Only after (1) the other dogs owner has approved them greeting each other and (2) I have released my dog from a heel, sit, etc... position. The second point is key because they should only be greeting other dogs after you have approved as well. Of course, all of this goes out the window at the dog park ;)
Vine is 6 and a 1/2 he just likes to sniff things now he just stops every 2nd sniffs I feel bad this sometimes I tug on the leash and say let's go I'm such a jerk

It's not a matter or respect - it's simply following the law. Dogs are required by law to be on-leash in many public areas these days.
