Dear Ellen, I got interested in making natural products at home and started watching YT tutorials. Most creators never give out their recipes and I understand their reasoning. You're the only one I came across who gives their recipes for free. Thank you so much for that! I love watching your videos, you're a beautiful lady in-and-out. All the best to your business, God bless! Subscribed.

Ellen Ruth is one of two of my go-to YT tutorials for EVERYTHING I want to make. And Ellen is definitely the first place I look. The second is Ellys Everyday (I actually found her first, but I love Ellen Ruth's videos more. Shhh...don't tell). Both are wonderful and freely share much needed information and recipes.

If ya sprinkle or dust a little mica glitter or cornstarch in the top of your moon press, they won’t stick like that and you either have a little shimmer or dust off the cornstarch when dry… works great!

OMG OMG OMG OMG I am so excited!!!!!! I just burst out laughing when you said it's not for the lady parts. That just reminded me of the time my cousin and I were in the woods and she had to pee and she grabbed the menthol tissues, not the regular one. I think she yelled so loud that she scared me and the rest of the animals. I can't wait to get some!

Hi Ellen, and Happy and healthy New Year! I just made this shower steamers with your wonderful recipe again for my daughters. The only change I made was I use corn starch because I didn't have arrow root at hand. I use the steamers bath bombs mold and they came out beautiful!! Just made them all white natural color. Thank you again for such a wonderful video, tutorial and recipe. ❤❤

If you want to get a really nice impression with the moon cake press then you need to put just enough product in to cover the bottom (what will be the top of the steamer) and press it down well with your fingers to get it in the design really well. Then finish filling like normal and then flip it over and press it well on the sheet pan.

I tried your recipe and it works wonderful. I put Plastic film Wrap so it won't stick inside and I have the design that I desire. What I also do is put the bowl on top of the scale and then I tear it.

First, I love watching you! I also live in Tennessee so it helps that your ingredients match my humidity level. I don’t make soap, but I make everything else you make. My specialty is shower steamers but I also do bath salts, beard balm, lip balm, lotion bars, scrub bars etc.
I’m trying to perfect a foaming coffee scrub bar, I wish you had a video on that. (If you do I haven’t found one). I make coffee scrub that my clients LOVE… but it’s messy. I’d love to do a foaming / soapy bar… but I use melt & pour goat milk soap. I’m still trying to figure out the right amounts.
Anyway, thank you for all you do! Even though I don’t make soap at this moment. It’s fun watching you… and your other products are fantastic! You inspire me!

Hi Ellen, Wow. Another awesome how-to video! I currently make CP soap, but love the idea of bath bombs. But most adults don't have time for that--and with it being winter, I was looking for a menthol shower steamer video. And voila! Your video popped up. Well, having been a fan of your excellent CP videos, I knew you would give the best, down-to-earth advice. Quick question: Since I live in very arid Utah, should I add a few drops more fragrance oil, or should I have some witch hazel ready as you do?

    • @EllenRuthSoap

Yes, in a super dry climate you could add a bit extra liquid. either F.O. or witch hazel will do.

Thanks and this is super helpful! Is menthol crystal required for all Essential Oil mixtures or only for this recipe? My shower steamer smells fade off easily. Is there any way to retain it?

I really like the addition of menthol, but you don’t need to add it.. Scented retention is a big topic, since these aren’t used for skin contact it’s okay to go heavy on the essential oils.

These are wonderful! What makes them fizz?

It's the combo of baking soda and citric acid that make the fizz.

Where did you get your heat machine and what is it called? Are the bags 6x6 shrink wrap? Thank you have a great day.

It's an impulse sealer, and I just added links for the shrink wrap and the sealer I use in the description box❣️

Hi Ellen, I must have missed something...where does the SLSA come in for the recipe. Trying to make for my teacher friends for back to school gifts.

This recipe doesn't have slsa in the formulation.

Hello . I would love to make these... I noticed you weighed the Moon Press before adding the product. I need to understand why, and how to properly do so? May you please explain that process? I enjoyed this video. AMAZING.!!! Thanks in advance

I weighed the press to tare the scale, so I would know exactly how much bath bomb mix to use so they all weigh the same.

I made a few batches following this recipe and they came out great! I would like to try some scents that might not go with the menthol... Can you omit the menthol? Or do you have a recipe without menthol? Thank you!

      You can leave it out👍

@@EllenRuthSoapI forgot to ask, do I need to add any extra liquid if I am omitting the menthol crystals? Thank you!

Thank you!! This helped tremendously when trying to make the steamers! Are steamers IFRA Category 10 (non-skin products)?

I follow the guide lines for bath bombs, even though these aren't for the bath...

I just made these I cut the recipe in half because I didn't have enough citric acid. The first batch, using a different recipe, all melted in the drying phase as I think there was too much polysorbate 80 in it. Mine are drying now. I'm hoping for success.

Unfortunately, this batch is headed for failure, too. I think that coastal North Carolina may just be do blasted humid for this to work well. I'm going to try baking them at a very low temperature for about 30 minutes.
