Thank you Thom! Need to re-visit the DCS system again, as there’s been a lot of questions on it. One of these days… happy 4th! Hope you have a good weekend!
Zach another great video. I love your comment about the Lionel system being more refined system than the MTH yet the less refined system operates both systems where the more refined one does not lol! I prefer my DCS system and MTH trains but love my Postwar trains as well.
Hey, thanks for the video. You taught me about the Aux1. I would grab my TMCC remote to change smoke. Thanks, big help no matter how long someone has been running trains.
Awesome video Zac. You definitely sold me on the idea of adding DCS to my system, especially confirming that I can still run my post war conventional locos.
Thanks Zac! I watched this a few times. Good refresher on what I knew, and appreciate you filling in the gaps on what I did not know. Wish there was more of this. I have read Barry's book, however, I retain more and understand better when I see it demonstrated. This was awesome!! Thanks!!
Zach, I use to plug my CD player in and play Bach and Beetoven ever now and the Mozart, these things are beauty and art in motion with the valve gears and the syncopated smoke.
I never knew how the 'Click Clack' feature worked. Thanks for explaining. I too love my MCS especially at an exhibition - you can be out front chatting to people and they don't believe you are controlling it all from your smart phone. Great fun!
Thank you for doing this video. I am finally setting up a simple Christmas layout and using the TIU DCS setup for the first time. Hoping to incorporate some TMCC/Legacy engines as well. Your details will be replayed many times to help me with my multiple engines. Thanks again
BTW, I was playing with the remote and accidentally switched it to conventional. My Santa Fe SD-90 took off like a bat out of hell. Glad this was a floor tree layout but I hit the emergency stop!!! I will need to practice with all the buttons. Yes very cool stuff you talked about. Thanks boss!!!
That’s all pretty technical. Trains are amazing these days 🚂😎 Guess I have a lot to learn. I just bought my first train A Lionel starter set building my layout table now it’s small for now But as you know they get bigger overtime. Listening to people like You on utube helps people get started
Keep in mind that if it's a LionChief set, you can run it on a track the has either an MTH DCS or Lionel Odyssey /TMCC system using the LC remote or phone app. So you are open to whichever direction you want to go in the future. Another LionChief or the higher end systems.
That was a great video. Relevant in so many ways. Learned a lot. Are you going to York in October? If so, hope to see you there. Outstanding job. You might be a hobbyist but videos are professionally done.
Thanks Thomas! I was hoping to try and get to York this year, but we have a wedding to go to out of state on the same dates. Trains gotta take a back seat every once in a while unfortunately lol
Nice review. I use Lionel's Legacy, but am thinking much more about including the DCS system as well. I really like a lot of what MTH has done and now that we know that the DCS system will continue to be with us I am thinking harder about adding it to my railroad. Thank you for the video. Bill B.
@@cheapbastardmodeltrains7210 that must have been one hell of a show!!! Had to have been a blast! Have seen em a few times and they never disappoint! We went and saw em beginning of August in Tampa. Luckily we got em right before John caught Covid. Seems he’s doing better now though. Heard Head caught it too… sucks…
Very Cool. Thanks! - What MTH could do is keep the remote features the same but upgrade the remote controller unit to a more modern look and maybe improve the battery usage with a different power solution. - But I still think the current remote should also be kept being made, - Just give upgrade options to customers.
Zach when you did the record section of the video we’re those engines conventional or command? The reason I ask is that then placed a conventional engine on the track. How can a track loop be both command and then conventional?
Very cool overview of the 'mysteries' of the DCS system, Zach! There have been operation overviews the showed EVERY possible feature of the system so much as to overwhelm me to where I lost interest in the idea of ever being able to enjoy using it! Your practical demonstration of the features that you use regularly have made much more sense. It's a very friendly understandable review of the best features that any operator would want to use! Great stuff!
I went to a train show today down in New Baltimore, Michigan, I've been looking forward to going to some train shows this season, I've just been doing (like Toby Keith said in his song) the next thing on my list
They are very few and far between these days it seems for sure!!! Hope you had a good time! We have one coming up in a couple of weeks we might try and head to.
Hello! I have an mth R-32 proto sound 2,0 subway set that I bought over 20 years ago and I've taken pretty good care of it, and it runs great! Although I don't have a dcs system to run it. Just a basic mth Z750 transformer. My question for You is if this proto2 engine could have more features to be explored if it could be run with such dcs system? And also I the very first subway set they manufactured, which is the R42 Proto1 subway. Please when You have a chance, let me know! RR
Great demonstration Zach. I cut my teeth with the MTH DCS system. I sort of got away from it some when Andy and Rich told me to buy their router and download the app. Personally I like a remote.
On another topic... the opening scene shows PandWY steam loco up on the high track. The maroon edging looks like it has been stamped out of metal. I am about to do the add a top level to my layout and really like your edging. Can you tell me who makes it or what it is?
Quick question before I quit for the night. You mentioned how to plug the Legacy system into the TIU. Is it possible to have both systems plugged into the same track but only power one system at a time to run each brand of engines by its own remote without creating any issues for the base unit that is not powered. Obviously you wouldn’t want to power both simultaneously for obvious electrical reasons.
Yes, can run them separately if the TMCC/legacy base is not connected to the TIU to control it. Can run systems separately and connect them separately to the track.
Woah, 534 hours of runtime, you run these a lot. Voltage feedback is nice. I'd like to put an AC Voltmeter on the tracks, We have Lionel Powermaster, and I'm never sure how much voltage is really on the track.
Gotta love TMCC! I’ve had good experiences jointing the 2 together (TMCC and DCS). Enjoy the different aspects/features they bring to the table. Oh yea, gotta run em! LOL. The Lionel power master I have seems to put out 18.3v when powered up. Idk how similar they would be to each other/your power master. Would imagine it is pretty close.
@@CountryBunkersTrains For me it's mostly confusing with PowerMaster and Protosound 1 trains. I'll monkey with the voltage on Powermaster by poking at buttons, but not really sure what the voltage on the track is. I'll press direction, and it'll go flying super fast. Considering some kind of AC Voltmeter on the rails so I have better feedback to avoid this.
Sometimes my Proto 2 and 3 engines act up. I do a factory reset and they return to normal. I think what happens is sometimes the data packets being sent through rails get mixed up and confuse the microprocessors. Good video. I'm headed to see Tony tomorrow to get a DC powerpack to run my trolley addition. Tony says on DC it runs slower for more realistic bump and go feature. I think my next engine is going to be a 3 volt Proto 2 or a Proto 3 GG1 to run with my Pennsy passenger cars.
Sorry about being a little slow viewing this video, to be honest, I don’t know how I missed this one. Your right, that run session memory is really a cool feature and the last one you did with the fading sounds is very cool, this one would work great with your rolling stock audio features, such as you CNW cattle cars. Great video and thanks for sharing, Ron

Great video. I'm a believer👍. I run five of my MTH engines on two loops at the same and it works perfectly.
Zach, Great info. Nice demos. Thanks.
THANKS FOR SHARING!!! Great video!!!
Nice video ! Great refresher for me about DCS features I don’t use much 😎
Watched this again, as others have said, very helpful as opposed to just reading a book. Great job as usual. Hope all goes well for you.

Thanks John!! Welcome aboard!
As always......nice video!
Thanks Zack, I’ve really got great infro on this system, very good commentary 👍👋😎🛤🚂
That is cool, I like the remote play session but never used it. Great feature if you’re running 2 or 3 trains at a time. 🎉

I have a PS-2 E8 ABA set that does it periodically too. I've read where this is a known problem. None of my PS-3 engines have ever done this.
Those Jersey Central F units are beautiful.
