- Spiral is probably among the lesser-know supervillains of the X-Men. I think the reason why she and Psylocke were part of the 3 ladies picked for this game is because both of them are actually archenemies, and that Spiral had a big role of changing Psylocke's appearance in the comics.
Wielding six stretchy arms, a floaty jump, and teleportation powers, Spiral feels like a female Dhalsim in this game, which is likely another reason why Capcom picked her.
Spiral has A LOT of different specials. Two of her most well-known attacks in this game are the Dancing Swords and the Spiral Buster. After summoning those swords, you can input different normal attacks and commands to determine how Spiral launches those swords at her foe.
Her Spiral Buster makes her grab her opponent and toss them from way high up. This is both her normal punch grab, and an "Up, Down" command grab. If you time the command grab version right, you can buffer a Super Jump into it!
Spiral also has the ability to increase her attack power by flashing red, and increase her speed (or decrease her animation frames) by flashing white. She can also make herself invisible.
On the defensive, Spiral can teleport somewhere near her opponent, and will escape from throws this way, too. She can also switch places with her foe, even while they're in the middle of doing an attack or a taunt (see Juggernaut).
Her Super Attack is to smack the hell out of her opponent by transforming into every other character in the entire game with each attack. First, like Shuma-Gorath's Chaos Dimension in Marvel Super Heroes, Spiral makes herself flash in a rainbow, then you have to use a punch up close to unleash the All-Star asskicking! You'll see different moves and finishers from it depending on where it was activated while Spiral was standing, crouching, or jumping.

In the end, after defeating Magneto, Spiral explained that it was to save her broadcasting company, Mojo T.V. Magneto is not amused that he's about to lose so much he worked for just for that sport. Spiral then teleports out of the exploding Avalon and lets Magneto die in it.
She returns to Mojo World to report to her boss, Mojo, himself. After her experience with fighting the Earth's mutants, Spiral suggests a new T.V. series called "The Fall of Earth".
Mojo LOVES that idea, as they both believe that could run for 5 seasons! 5 seasons of mayhem, misery, and no mercy!

so much detail was put into this game, from the dynamite backgrounds to the in-fight character portraits, ah the golden era of Capcom you will be missed
Yeah, everything animated in 3D, while loads better than 3D early days, just doesn't capture the same kind of beauty

This was during Capcom's Golden Age. Street Fighter 5 ruined everything.
I bet back then they specifically wanted to find characters they could go crazy with animation-wise.
Which is why they probably chose someone like Shuma Gorath for the Sequel.
Too bad they didn't get to do Doctor Octopus like they wanted in UMvsC3.
That would have completed the many arms trilogy. ( I think it was too much for the 3d model or something , harder to go all out crazy with polygons.)
@@hentaipanda07 shuma is based in spiral template.... colossus in juggernaut template and so on.... capcom do that for marvel games.
I loved the little dance she did with intertwined arms when she won.

That winning animation is just cheap mirror imaging. The technique was dated even back when this game was released for the arcade lol!
If Spiral was in X-Men vs. Street Fighter, then she would've been the best choice for a partner for Dhalsim. With that being said, just imagine how much of a freakfest would be for a crossover hyper combo! And by the way, I used to play as her all the time at the arcades in 1995 when I was 16. It was my first real time getting the hang of Capcom fighting games.

@@dreamcastdazia4753 And with what I've posted being said, if Capcom brought back Omega Red for Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, then they should've also put in Spiral, too. But then you would also think of adding the likes of Psylocke as well. Hmmmm. Who do you think would be a perfect fit for Spiral to team up with that represents Street Fighter, had Capcom put her in? I would only guess they would pair Psylocke with Cammy because of her ending in X-Men vs. Street Fighter, the first character who I beat the game with at the arcades back in 1997 in Memorial Day.

And in the end, Spiral was nothing but an 'errand girl' for Mojo.
You're surprised? That's what she's _always_ been in the comic books...until she finally wised up, went rogue, spent a lot more time on Earth and joined Freedom Force, anyway. Why did she join Freedom Force? Because she was bored. She's Chaotic Neutral like that. ;-)
(Her Freedom Force years were sweet! Remember the time when Freedom Force and the X-Men threw down, Rogue touched Spiral and absorbed her mind along with some of her powers, but Spiral's mind flipped it around, took control of Rogue's body and started using Rogue to lay an unholy smackdown on the rest of the X-Men? Or the time when Psylocke got pissed off at Spiral for putting her mind in Kwannon's body, so Psylocke came rushing at Spiral and tried to kill her (Professor X's merciful teachings be damned), only Spiral started smacking Psylocke around like a piñata and it took five other X-Men to pull Spiral off of her? Classic Spiral. ^_^)
So considering how much of a powerhouse she is in the comics, it makes me wonder why she took crap off of Mojo for as long as she did. Not too many villains can fight Wolverine toe-to-toe, one-on-one with a chance of actually _beating_ him, but Spiral's one of them. How _did_ Mojo keep Spiral from simply slicing off his head and opening a dimensional causeway back to Earth every time he ticked her off, anyway?
@@BloodyBay I'm sorry, but I know nothing about Spiral joining Freedom Force since I don't know much about certain events that occur in the comics over the years, just some certain things. And I don't know much about the character of Spiral as well.
@@douglassnyder9206 No worries. I spent a lot of my old paychecks on comic books back in the 80's and the 90's; they're still filling up a battered old filing cabinet in my storage shed. As a result, I know plenty about Marvel Comics characters, but I kind of wish that I'd been saving or investing that money instead. :-/

I'd like to see Spiral, Brother Voodoo (or is it _Doctor_ Voodoo now?), Doctor Druid, Shaman, Wiccan, Magik, Talisman, Agatha Harkness, the Scarlet Witch, Daytripper, Morgan Le Fey, Sister Grimm, Black Widow (not Natasha Romanov; the one with the hokey name Claire Voyant) and all the other mystics and mages in the Marvelverse lining up for the tournament the day Doctor Strange finally gets fed up with being Sorcerer Supreme, tosses his Amulet of Agamotto on the table and says, "That does it! You guys think you can do a better job than me? Fine! The last one standing gets the job! Have at it!" :-D
I really enjoyed how Carls493 toyed with their opponents, especially against Juggernaut.
They don’t make them like this any more. Did we know how good we had it back then? This game will never get old.

Akuma was definitely my favourite character in this game.
She was my favorite to play, and then psylocke.

My money says that the number of people who call Spiral "low tier" directly coincides with the number of people who don't know how to play Spiral _at all._ She's tough to master, but when you _do_ master Spiral and her bag of tricks, prepare to get cussed out by other players over and over, because Spiral _will_ piss them off! "Oh, did I interrupt your big, massive Mega Optic Blast with my Switch? So sorry! And now I'm rushing up behind you and Spiral-Bustering you into the concrete while that massive death beam's still coming out of your eyes! How could I be _so_ rude?" >:)
According to some pages I've visited, she's anything from low to mid-tier.
lowest is silver samurai, second one is she.
Imagine if Sakura Kasugano & Spiral were brought back to the Marvel vs. Capcom series as teammates - two students of different fighting styles kicking ass.
Why does spiral have all this stretchy shit in her combos. I've never seen her do it in any comics or cartoons :(
There's this really old comic where Spiral incapacitated Dazzler with a mask that could only be removed with magic. In one panel, near the end of that issue, she was flying towards Dazzler to take it off and her arms were drawn like they were stretching out like Dhalsim limbs for some reason. Capcom clearly took that and ran with it.
Hold up............Spiral's ending called for 5 more seasons before they need re-runs. Let's count off the games. 1) Marvel Super Heroes, 2) X-Men vs Street Fighter, 3) Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, 4) Marvel vs Capcom, and 5) Marvel vs Capcom 2......

Alongside Akuma being in this game, yeah - Spiral is the very reason we got this series. It'd definitely would've been cool if Spiral was in the ending for MvC2 (being with Spider-Man and either Sakura or Morrigan in their group selfie).
If Capcom ever decide to make another MvC game (that isn't the crapfest like Infinite was everything-but-gameplay-wise), I really wish they'd put Spiral in it and characterize her like she was in the Mr. & Mrs. X comic mini-series after she got the missing piece of her soul back (thanks to some help from Gambit).
Have you tried using the joystick during the Spiral Buster to throw your opponent straight up or straight down? If you push Up while doing the Spiral Buster, you can jump up or wait till they come back down, then immediately hit them with _another_ Spiral Buster! Supposedly you can hit them with several Spiral Busters that way, but I never managed to pull off more than two Spiral Busters in a row.
Of course, pulling Down throws your opponent straight into the ground, which is also pretty satisfying. :-)
only two in a row but is possible to throw them circle swords after second spiral buster, then do 5 arms grab to spiral buster and after that do another spiral buster.

I don't think they went that deep when they chose to use Betsy and Spiral. One is a hot ninja and the other is a hot, six-armed girl who uses "magic". Remember Capcom also chose Shuma-Gorath.

I am trying to do her exploding swords move, but nothing will happen even if I try the imput. Any suggestions?
I'm trying to remember. Jab throws her swords one at a time, Heavy Punch throws all of her swords in a ring (forward, straight up or straight down, depending on the joystick), Mid Kick makes her swords orbit around her really fast and Roundhouse basically turns all of her swords into homing missiles. It might be Mid Punch or Light Kick, or it might be a meter-burning move. What have you tried so far?
I wish this game got a super version with more characters and the two bosses being playable.
