Oh my god! I was just talking to my mom about this girl making her own 'clean' make up and thinking of selling it!? She was talking about how she didn't understand why make up had to have all these 'chemicals' in them. Like, girl... THAT'S A PRESERVATIVE, IT'LL MOLD WITHOUT IT!!! IT'S CALLED SHELF LIFE. I don’t like green washing-a lot of those “clean” brands have much shorter shelf life because they don’t have preservatives in them. Preservatives in our food are not good, but because make up is man made-you do need them-otherwise your eyeshadow palette will start growing mold in six months. It also needs to be labeled tested for safety before it’s sold. I say we leave makeup formulation to the chemists.

The fact that there's always a chance of hitting a vein or nerve when getting aesthetic injections makes this even worse. There's still a slim chance the injections could do irreparable damage to your face even when you're getting them from an experienced professional. I'm sure those chances are much bigger for people doing it at home, on themselves, untrained, without official medical equipment. Annnnd they most likely aren't prepared if it all goes wrong 😮💨

Plus plus too much of a good thing is too much. High levels of L ascorbic acid will irritate your skin and destroy your skin barrier, even a 10% concentration is too much for most people. There is a reason why skincare has the percentage of vitamn C on the labels, and this is why. And there are other forms of vitamin C that are much more stable, less irritating and can be suspended in a water-based solution that absorbs much better, while L ascorbic acid needs to be suspended in oil-based solution to not go bad in 3 seconds.
Plus he’s not making pure vitamin C, his stuff is tainted with citrus oil which isn’t supposed to be put on your face because it reacts with the sun and causes burns.

I recently tried a primer from ELF that I only found out after applying had tea tree oil in it. My skin was SCREAMING. Not to mention the eye irritation. I don’t know what the formulators were thinking, and they’re professionals…I can’t imagine how much worse that DIY concoction would be. Also I think she was trying to go for some kind of micellar water or oil cleanser thing, which makes me laugh…don’t you need a detergent in there of some kind? It’s just gonna make a mess…

Literally just olive oil, then if you're lucky, a baby wipe for the excess oil. But that was "ah shit I forgot to hit the pharmacy and now it's 2 am I I'm not sleeping in this" makeup remover, and it sure as hell didn't involve putting teatree oil in my eyes!

For those who are not aware, make sure to drain your cut aloe leaves so the gross yellow resin drains out! It contains latex and will cause skin irritation. I drain twice and also like to rinse the aloe again after peeling it.

Oh, the eyeshadow+gloss thing I "learned" from cosplayers back in 2013, they said you should make a VERY SMALL AMOUNT (preferably for A SINGLE USE amount) of "custom lip gloss". One even said that you should put the eyeshadow on the lips ad then coat it with lip gloss precisely for this reason. Seeing people making a whole bottle of custom lip gloss had me squirming in disgust.
pressurized injection actually causes more tissue damage than needles which means higher likelihood of scar tissue forming, more swelling, more bruising. But a lot of people (including myself) have a fear of needles so a needle-less option seems less scary/ more beginner friendly when in reality its the opposite.

The machines they use cause a lot more trauma to the earlobe than is really necessary, and they’re not always properly sanitized. I got mine pierced at Claire’s and it turned out fine, but if I could go back I’d rather trust a professional than a part-timer with rudimentary training
I got my ears pierced at Claire’s and they got infected, I just let them close up eventually. Got them pierced again at a sketchy tattoo parlour and they turned out fine lol
I went to a professional when I was getting my conch done and he said to one my double helix piercing that you can immediately tell this is done by a piercing gun not a needle which yes it was done at Claire’s 🥲

The problem with that hyaluronic pen is that it's not precise. It just shots the product deep into skin, much deeper and stronger than injection. And there lies the danger. You could clog the blood vessel or at best, make yourself look lumpy.
I love following HowToCookThat on here, Ann Reardon has done a ton of social media food and craft debunking videos, and she breaks down why, scientifically, the recipe just could not work the way the video claims it does. She also makes sure to try each recipe (unless it's so bonkers it's a health hazard) and shows off how the original uploader probably faked their results by showing evidence of jump cuts or even what they had to do to get their final product. After watching a bunch of her videos, it's been way easier to spot insta/tiktok recipes that are likely fake/edited so I don't waste my time and ingredients on trying them!
The Vitamin C "serum" part made me cackle 'cause oh lawd. It is notoriously difficult to find effective Vitamin C fr and even then it needs to be used super quickly lest it lose it's efficacy. I don't include Vit C in my routine for this reason lol. I hate the whole notion of skincare from the kitchen so much, so that bit hit different. I'm chill with making your own exfoliant from sugar or coffee grounds, but HATE slapping on whatever potion because it so icky feeling. I'll take my chemicals in skin care thanks.

The one beauty diy I actually have done is to make reusable makeup wipes, that is, I cut out and hemmed little 2” circles of towel I use to put face wash and makeup remover on.

i heard air and injecting. the horror. I used to work with hydraulic fluid (not the same as hyaluronic acid, in fact two very different things) but you learn just how bad it is to have anything injected into you in the wrong place. the injecting into a blood vessel would be horrible and the worst part is it will just feel like a little bee sting so you wont know how bad the damage is until it's too late.
I went to a baby shower once and the favors were homemade “natural” spa products that the hosts had made. When I went to use it, it was already full of mold. Noped right out of that trend and never looked back 🤢😂😂😂

My skincare consists of coconut oil as makeup remover (I have dry skin and don’t have any breakouts from it) it works better than any cleansing balm I’ve ever tried. And a gentle foaming cleanser and. Moisturizer with spf. If you’re using anything more than this you’re stripping your skin and exposing it to extra chemicals You don’t need.

afaik about filler, doctors also know how to get rid of it immediately if smth goes wrong during the procedure. people at home can't do that either so yeah, I've seen a ton of horror stories about that at home product basically.
I mean, you can mix oil and water, It just takes a lot of work and separates out easily. A good hack is adding an egg! It stabilizes the emulsion and adds a bit of protein to the mixture. Enjoy your mayonnaise---I mean, make up remover ;) (if you actually want to make mayonnaise for eating though, its typically recommended to use lemon juice or vinegar. While technically mayonnaise, oil and water is the bare minimum as mayonnaise is, at its core, an oil-in-water emulsion. Adding acid has a variety of benefits such as conferring additional taste, stabilizing the emulsion, and even acting as a weak preservative! And, of course, like the recommendations for homemade cosmetics: only make small batches, store it properly, and discard it readily.)

A RUclipsr I once liked shifted gears a few years ago and was trying to live a simple and minimalist life where she lived off of the land. I have no issue with that. I did have an issue with her making homemade skincare and haircare goop and never mentioning any warnings about the risks. At that point I had become a licensed esthetician and my friend was a licensed aesthetician (yes, there's a difference), and we both politely brought up the risks. Our comments got deleted. Other viewers started saying that they tried her recipes and ended up with allergic reactions and burns, and some commented on the rapid mold growth, and they were ignored. She now has two young children, and I really hope she isn't using her DIY concoctions on them.
I use the tea tree oil face wipes and straight tea tree oil in my hair mix (all stable oils, and used immediately), and the labels both say “Avoid contact with eyes” for a reason…. That shit burns.
I'm a doctor in Europe, with two specialities: the first and main one, emergencies and catastrophes, and the second one, plastic, aesthetics and anti-ageing. Without getting into too much technicalities and legislations (which may vary depending where you live), plastic work done by a doctor is expensive for several reasons: first, usually materials are top class that can only be bought by doctors with a certificate in plastics, and they are most definitely not cheap (one syringe of a good quality hialuronic acid costs around 150€) Second, doctors need to buy the material and equipment in case things go wrong during the procedure and they need to revert the damage - cases of people who have gone blind because of a poorly done lip filler exist, for example. Third, it's an investment on our part. Sure, a client may pay 400 euros for a lip filler, but first I paid 10.000€ to learn how to do face fillers, and I still need to pay thousands more to keep up-to-date with new and better materials and techniques. So clients are also paying for just how much experience and knowledge the doctor has. A cool peel with CO2 laser may cost around 200-300€, but the machine costs between 40.000 to 80.000€ (plus maintenance). Honestly, for me plastics and aesthetics is therapeutic, because I'm dealing with healthy people who want to feel better with themselves - stark contrast with the brutal cases I see in emergencies. And I'm all for people who want to feel better with themselves, but here's a piece of advice: first, check the credentials of the person who is going to do your procedure, and check the materials used, otherwise you may end up as one of my patients in emergency, and I may not be able to help if the damage is beyond medical control.

Tea tree oil (and any oils for that matter) absolutely should NOT go anywhere near the eyes. That stuff can blind you. If you get oil of any kind in your eyes, flush with *cold* water for several minutes asap and follow up with a doctor if your vision still doesn’t clear. We’re talking irreversible damage here. Be smart, be safe. Don’t mess with that shit.

And there are other forms of vitamin C that are much more stable, less irritating and can be suspended in a water-based solution that absorbs much better, while L ascorbic acid needs to be suspended in oil-based solution to not go bad in 3 seconds.
Plus he’s not making pure vitamin C, his stuff is tainted with citrus oil which isn’t supposed to be put on your face because it reacts with the sun and causes burns.

I recently tried a primer from ELF that I only found out after applying had tea tree oil in it. My skin was SCREAMING. Not to mention the eye irritation. I don’t know what the formulators were thinking, and they’re professionals…I can’t imagine how much worse that DIY concoction would be. Also I think she was trying to go for some kind of micellar water or oil cleanser thing, which makes me laugh…don’t you need a detergent in there of some kind? It’s just gonna make a mess…

For those who are not aware, make sure to drain your cut aloe leaves so the gross yellow resin drains out! It contains latex and will cause skin irritation. I drain twice and also like to rinse the aloe again after peeling it.

Oh, the eyeshadow+gloss thing I "learned" from cosplayers back in 2013, they said you should make a VERY SMALL AMOUNT (preferably for A SINGLE USE amount) of "custom lip gloss". One even said that you should put the eyeshadow on the lips ad then coat it with lip gloss precisely for this reason. Seeing people making a whole bottle of custom lip gloss had me squirming in disgust.

pressurized injection actually causes more tissue damage than needles which means higher likelihood of scar tissue forming, more swelling, more bruising. But a lot of people (including myself) have a fear of needles so a needle-less option seems less scary/ more beginner friendly when in reality its the opposite.

I don’t mind giving questionable advice to the RUclips algorithm, but for humans with actual earlobes… don’t go to Claire’s to get your ears pierced if you’ve got access to a piercing/tattoo parlor. The machines they use cause a lot more trauma to the earlobe than is really necessary, and they’re not always properly sanitized. I got mine pierced at Claire’s and it turned out fine, but if I could go back I’d rather trust a professional than a part-timer with rudimentary training
I got my ears pierced at Claire’s and they got infected, I just let them close up eventually. Got them pierced again at a sketchy tattoo parlour and they turned out fine lol

The problem with that hyaluronic pen is that it's not precise. It just shots the product deep into skin, much deeper and stronger than injection. And there lies the danger. You could clog the blood vessel or at best, make yourself look lumpy.

I love following HowToCookThat on here, Ann Reardon has done a ton of social media food and craft debunking videos, and she breaks down why, scientifically, the recipe just could not work the way the video claims it does. She also makes sure to try each recipe (unless it's so bonkers it's a health hazard) and shows off how the original uploader probably faked their results by showing evidence of jump cuts or even what they had to do to get their final product. After watching a bunch of her videos, it's been way easier to spot insta/tiktok recipes that are likely fake/edited so I don't waste my time and ingredients on trying them!

The Vitamin C "serum" part made me cackle 'cause oh lawd. It is notoriously difficult to find effective Vitamin C fr and even then it needs to be used super quickly lest it lose it's efficacy. I don't include Vit C in my routine for this reason lol.
I hate the whole notion of skincare from the kitchen so much, so that bit hit different. I'm chill with making your own exfoliant from sugar or coffee grounds, but HATE slapping on whatever potion because it so icky feeling. I'll take my chemicals in skin care thanks.
Even coffee/sugar scrubs are not exactly the best for the skin as they can cause micro abrasions 😅
vit c also makes skin more sensitive to sunlight, its better to just ditch it as topical serums and whatnot

The one beauty diy I actually have done is to make reusable makeup wipes, that is, I cut out and hemmed little 2” circles of towel I use to put face wash and makeup remover on.
I have little flannel/terrycloth squares that I bought from Etsy like this. It's how I prefer to wash my face now
You just need to be careful that everything is sanitized, cause it could totally grow bacteria if it wasn't sanitized

i heard air and injecting. the horror. I used to work with hydraulic fluid (not the same as hyaluronic acid, in fact two very different things) but you learn just how bad it is to have anything injected into you in the wrong place. the injecting into a blood vessel would be horrible and the worst part is it will just feel like a little bee sting so you wont know how bad the damage is until it's too late.
I went to a baby shower once and the favors were homemade “natural” spa products that the hosts had made. When I went to use it, it was already full of mold. Noped right out of that trend and never looked back 🤢😂😂😂
Aloe is genuinely one of the only natural beauty things that I find actually works. Most other things are just for fun for me. Idk why I always forget I have an aloe plant. My skincare consists of coconut oil as makeup remover (I have dry skin and don’t have any breakouts from it) it works better than any cleansing balm I’ve ever tried. And a gentle foaming cleanser and. Moisturizer with spf. If you’re using anything more than this you’re stripping your skin and exposing it to extra chemicals You don’t need.

I used to work in a plastic surgery office, also offering injections and everything under the sun, and I will never understand how people think doing any of it is a good idea 😅 the brochures the patients get about the risks, facts and side-effects are like a horror movie script. No, thank you. People should rather try therapy first to fix the root of their problems before moving on to their looks. Still not safe but much, much safer.

A RUclipsr I once liked shifted gears a few years ago and was trying to live a simple and minimalist life where she lived off of the land. I have no issue with that. I did have an issue with her making homemade skincare and haircare goop and never mentioning any warnings about the risks. At that point I had become a licensed esthetician and my friend was a licensed aesthetician (yes, there's a difference), and we both politely brought up the risks. Our comments got deleted. Other viewers started saying that they tried her recipes and ended up with allergic reactions and burns, and some commented on the rapid mold growth, and they were ignored. She now has two young children, and I really hope she isn't using her DIY concoctions on them.
I use the tea tree oil face wipes and straight tea tree oil in my hair mix (all stable oils, and used immediately), and the labels both say “Avoid contact with eyes” for a reason…. That shit burns.
I'm a doctor in Europe, with two specialities: the first and main one, emergencies and catastrophes, and the second one, plastic, aesthetics and anti-ageing.
Without getting into too much technicalities and legislations (which may vary depending where you live), plastic work done by a doctor is expensive for several reasons: first, usually materials are top class that can only be bought by doctors with a certificate in plastics, and they are most definitely not cheap (one syringe of a good quality hialuronic acid costs around 150€)
Second, doctors need to buy the material and equipment in case things go wrong during the procedure and they need to revert the damage - cases of people who have gone blind because of a poorly done lip filler exist, for example.
Third, it's an investment on our part. Sure, a client may pay 400 euros for a lip filler, but first I paid 10.000€ to learn how to do face fillers, and I still need to pay thousands more to keep up-to-date with new and better materials and techniques. So clients are also paying for just how much experience and knowledge the doctor has.
A cool peel with CO2 laser may cost around 200-300€, but the machine costs between 40.000 to 80.000€ (plus maintenance).
Honestly, for me plastics and aesthetics is therapeutic, because I'm dealing with healthy people who want to feel better with themselves - stark contrast with the brutal cases I see in emergencies. And I'm all for people who want to feel better with themselves, but here's a piece of advice: first, check the credentials of the person who is going to do your procedure, and check the materials used, otherwise you may end up as one of my patients in emergency, and I may not be able to help if the damage is beyond medical control.

The other day I saw a TT from a lady suggesting you keep avocados in water in the fridge to keep them fresh longer. Many people, a microbiologist included, told her it wasn't safe because it can cause bacteria like Listeria to seep through the skin into the fruit. Tea tree oil (and any oils for that matter) absolutely should NOT go anywhere near the eyes. That stuff can blind you. If you get oil of any kind in your eyes, flush with *cold* water for several minutes asap and follow up with a doctor if your vision still doesn’t clear. We’re talking irreversible damage here. Be smart, be safe. Don’t mess with that shit.
