    Gone with the Wind, lauded as one of the American cinema’s grandest, most ambitious and spectacular pieces of filmmaking, was helmed by Victor Fleming in 1939, the same year as the director’s The Wizard of Oz. It captured 10 Academy Awards®[ii] including Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress for Hattie McDaniel, the first Oscar awarded to an African-American actor. Margaret Mitchell’s Pulitzer-prize winning novel, on which the film is based, has been translated into 16 languages, has sold hundreds of millions of copies worldwide, and even now, continues to sell 50,000 copies a year.
    Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Olivia de Havilland, Leslie Howard and Hattie McDaniel star in this classic epic of the American South. On the eve of the Civil War, rich, beautiful and self-centered Scarlett O’Hara (Leigh) has everything she could want - except Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard). As the war devastates the South, Scarlett discovers the strength within herself to protect her family and rebuild her life. Through everything, she longs for Ashley, unaware that she is already married to the man she really loves (Gable) - and who truly loves her - until she finally drives him away. Only then does Scarlett realize what she has lost … and tries to win him back.
    Special Features:
    Featuring footage including Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh attending the original movie premiere in Atlanta
    -Old South/New South: Take a journey of discovery through today’s South, revisiting the real-life locations depicted in Gone With the Wind, from Gettysburg to Atlanta to New Orleans, to see how the world of the Old South - and the themes depicted in the film - continue to inform life in the cosmopolitan world of the New South

    Simple- The best movie ever made, and if the end sounds depressing is because it's a REAL ending- That makes this masterpiece timeless- A very "modern" way to end the story- The actings, production values, music and Art Direction are perfect- Here in Argentina we love it, and two movie theatres are showing the film right now.

    I've read the book, it was written in the 1930s, a celebration of slavery. Ghastly, considering that it was perpetrated by those who had a constitution and rules and railways and telegraph and all that.

    To be honest with you if they were going to go with the "before such and such movie", why didn't they go with Epic films instead given that this is the grandaddy of them all.
    Before The Godfather
    Before Lord Of The Rings
    Before Titanic
    Before Ben-Hur
    Before Laurence Of Arabia
    There was......
    Gone With The Wind!

    What is the source material for this release? Was it one of the pre-1967 IB Tech prints, or one of the many awful prints from the 70mm reissue and beyond?

      @@JCarlosCS1221 First, how do you know? And second, I've heard that the original negative has been corrupted because it was cut into for the 70mm rerelease. Is that true?

    • @JCarlosCS1221
      @JCarlosCS1221 Год назад +1

      @@hotwax9376 It was corrupted in very specific scenes (one I remember is that scene where Melanie runs to meet with Ashley after he comes back from the war), most of the negatives survive in restorable conditions (that means, it takes some expensive technology to do it).
      There is plenty of information about the restoration process around. They used software to perfectly align the 3-strip Technicolor negatives. They almost dumped them in the 80s until someone said they should keep them in case some technology came around to make a new master out of them. And it did.

    • @hotwax9376
      @hotwax9376 Год назад

      @@JCarlosCS1221 The 70mm release was in Metrocolor, so I always assumed that the original negative was not true Technicolor anymore. And are you confusing it with the alterations that came with the 1954 release?
