As someone who has all of both band’s discography on vinyl, it’s hard to choose one over the other. Vastly different paths were taken by both bands so I like to see them as the best of their respective genres than adversaries.
id recommend reading though the lyrics on this one on next listens cuz their lyrical skills absolutely shine on this, the stories are vivid, unique, and have some of the coolest abstract writing ive seen in rock
Yeah, I usually don’t like reading lyrics, but I have AirPods (recently bought good headphones though so I can hear vocals better) and I couldn’t hear a single lyric until I pulled up the lyrics.
You should definitely react to the album Bright Green Field by Squid. Squid has a very similar fanbase to black midi and BCNR, they're a punk band that started in the Windmill scene just like black midi. They're personally my favorite of the 3 bands, they're incredible and I think you'd really enjoy Bright Green Field
I second this. G.S.K had me sold on my first listen. Them vocals, especially from a drummer, are some of the best "wacky" vocals I've had the pleasure of hearing.

It's so funny to me how divisive 'Eat Men Eat' is among first time listeners when I LOVED it on mine. I think Cameron's calm to unhinged vocal delivery works so well with the building intensity of the music. It sounds like some twisted version of a Spaghetti western track.
some records you need to check out black midi - schlagenheim being their debut, it punches you in the face and doesn't give you a break. although i prefer schlagenheim over cavalcade, it has been taken over by hellfire. warning: bmbmbm will scare you car seat headrest - twin fantasy (face to face, aka the 2018 version) a rerecorded version of one of his first albums from 2011, will toledo's twin fantasy is a depressing, yet beautifully executed album exploring sexuality, mental health, and what to make out of it. seriously an amazing record wire - pink flag in my opinion, one of the best punk records. short and sweet, the sound of this record is unmatched even to this day. and finally idles - joy as an act of resistance. a gutpunch, aggressive record that leaves you wanting more, it's seriously good. although i personally haven't listened to it in full, what i have heard is brilliant take these into consideration, or don't, personally i don't care LMAO
Eat men eat takes a few listens to settle in. After a few listens of the whole album, I can say that’s it’s my favourite song (pretty close to welcome to hell and sugar/tzu tho, hard decision)

This is competing with Ants from up there by BCNR for album of the year. Personally I’m taking BCNR but both nearing 10/10. This year is such a good year so far for music as a whole. With Black Midi I’m still currently at the stage of appreciation of technical skill without the emotional connection to the music. I did have the same to start with BCNR but now Ants from Up There is my album of the year and I love the bands catalogue so hopefully the same will come with these guys. The boundaries they’re pushing and minds they’re blowing is something very rarely seen these days
Fr, I thought ants from up there was a technically great but average sounding record. Until I tuned everything out, had an emotional listen to their album. And then I fell in love.
This is also a great album lyrically, the concept about people committing horrible acts and being sentenced to hell is so ambitious yet they execute it perfectly
Respectfully Eat Men Eat is one of the best on this record but I’m glad you’re rocking w/ black midi. Such a young talented band, & I ABSOLUTELY ADORE that theres recent wave of British post punk, consisting of young (more or less) talented musicians that seemingly came out of nowhere. Breathing new life in the post punk genre, a genre that made me geek for rock as whole in the first place. I take this movement as symbol that rock is still putting out and pushing rather than dying. Black Midi & BC,NR are my favorites out of this wave but there’s other good bands like Viagra Boys, IDLES, Squid, etc. ( I’m sure there’s others but I haven’t gotten to them yet) Also very glad that Jon is putting out a rock channel. Not enough rock oriented channels that are keeping up to date. I love Rap and it is probably my favorite genre but with its popularity obviously it’s gonna take the majority of reaction content where as other genres don’t get pushed as much therefore I’m here dying to scratch the itch of my favorite music that is outside of Rap
