To my knowledge, Steve Morse is the only guy to have really mastered both ends of the guitar spectrum. He's an amazing and gifted plectrum guitarist, but then to master classical as well! Awesome. Course there could be others, but I cant think of any. Steve Morse is da man!!!

You may not agree with me, but stiil for me this beautiful piece by great Bach feels like a gentle touch of God. And Steve is the one how is able to deliver this message to every listener in all its beauty, playing his guitar only. What a talent.

It's not just that he's an amazing guitarist. It's that he's one of the very finest musicians of our time. He has a singer's heart, that shines through when he solos, and he honors every aspect of Music in his writing and playing.
I can't think of any guitarist who could be said to be better than Steve. And honestly, you'd be hard-pressed to convince me that there's anyone as good, when you take the full range of his music into account. We are blessed, to share this space in time with him.

    • @reidmcclure1438

I couldn’t agree with you more! He’s music is spiritually transforming! His talent all-encompassing. Composing music covering many styles with the Dregs, Kansas, Living Loud, Angelfire with Sarah Spencer, Flying Colors, and Deep Purple since 1994 (still going strong!). And some incredible releases through the Magna Carta label. His legacy to the guitar will remain a cornerstone to creativity for years to come.

John Petrucci of Dream Theater stated that Steve Morse was the greatest guitarist that he had ever known.
There was a guitar magazine that took votes on who is the greatest guitarist.
There were only three that had to be retired from the magazine.
If you won the award five years consecutively then you would be in their Hall of Fame and could never be eligible.
Steve Morse and Steve Howe were two of the three. I forgot the other one as I am an old man.
I do remember my first concert when I was in high school.
It was late 1967 at the Anaheim Convention Center with Jimi, Eric Burdon and the Soft Machine featuring Allen Holdsworth.
Steve Morse has more talent in his pinky finger on his right hand than others.
God bless him and family in these trying times.

Same here two years ago during the Dixie Dregs reunion tour, 3 years ago? Anyway, nicest guy I ever met in the musical field. His brother was there too - lives about an hour away from me, another nice guy - he works for a company who also has a facility where I live so he comes here a lot. Must be a big shot - Steve called him "the smart brother!" haha

Steve has always been a "class act". Humble and an example for other musicians. He even wrote a book about it ("Open Ears"). He's so good, his body of work speaks for itself. The fact that he's a really nice guy too is a bonus. A lot of prima donna rock stars could learn a lot from him.

It isn't really an easy piece by any means. It is one of "THOSE"... however some may be fools enough to think it is piece of cake. Just fools. Bach was and remains a Music MONSTER, and Steve demonstrates it choosing this particular masterpiece to show some Old but Timeless Classics are tough diamonds to cut even for a Rock Legend or the most gifted performer.
By the way his performance was so seamless, he could allow his delivery to add with artistic license a couple "improving" bends and timings of personal touch quite charming to me too, showing how much he reveres it and delights in it not demeaning it at all.

People debate who is the "best" and a lot of it depends on taste. Most of the lists of the "greatest guitarists" are typically associated with a band the person knows and not technical, or diverse, ability. Steve is one of only 2 guitarists to win overall best guitarist of the year honors 5 years in a row. Steve Howe from YES is the other. Those people voting are other guitarists.

I saw the Dregs several times in the late 70s/early 80s era and he is the best and most versatile guitarist I've ever seen. His speed was incredible and he made it look so easy. He was once asked at what age he thought he was the best and he said in his 20s he thought he was at his technical best. I agree with him being a great guy and a class act. Amazing that he wrote most of the early Dregs albums while in his 20s.
