    Amazingly clear. I am 71 years old. Fearful and anxious of Canvas til now. Hope brought me here. Excitement and confidence move me on!

    One of the hardest lessons to learn with online teaching and keynote software is to not make things too fancy. Consistency and visual interest without too much kaleidoscopic inventiveness! Because for the student who is trying to absorb content, the inventiveness is just distraction. This was a very helpful video.

      Glad it was helpful! I always say...skip the fancy! Focus on the content, effectiveness and outcomes. How's it going with your slides? Are you starting to create new ones for a class or update some old slides?

      @@VirtualTeachingPro Very true! I am using the same slides as before without much updating because I need to focus on what teachers usually consider the "extras" -- timing, engagement, interactions. These require much more planning and time than I usually have budgeted, so by keeping content stable, my energy channels (this time) to those elements. I've forwarded your video to my sister, who is a product manager at Cengage.

    Hello Ashlee, i still use Power point for my slides as its easier to change when going from school to school. As a International Teacher who did a lot of supply work its easier to have something that can be changed. One school or even classroom may be too bright or to dark for the theme on your slides or the colours just don't work.
    Yes, i do keep all my themes the same for my A Level or IGCSE Students for the same thing that you say. i also link the Chapter headings and Learning Outcomes the same as the books they use to link the physical tangible copy to my work. i also do this with my Canvas pages so it keeps everything the same for the students and so i can transfer everything over the following year and just make changers to improve the course. Thank you for your hard work, love from China

      These are such wonderful tips for making it easier to shift from school to school. Thanks for sharing! That's one of the most challenging parts of being a teacher (especially with technology and online elements) with keeping all of your content flexible to make those shifts and adjustments as needed depending upon the environment, students, classroom, and engagement which drastically shifts every time. Thanks for sharing these insights that you've found helpful! Sending you support and gratitude from California to China.

      My pleasure! And greetings all the way to you in Bangkok. I'm in California, USA and so wonderful to connect with you here. Was there one element that you might try to incorporate in your slides that you find would be helpful for your teachings?

      Always! Gotta support my fellow amazing teachers out there all over the world! I feel like we were all thrown into the deep end of the water without lifejackets the past year. This is me throwing floating devices to as many people as I can!!!

      You bet! It's taken me 7 years to figure out how to create slides that are really effective in my classes especially for online teaching. I like to survey my students every semester and see if I can make any updates that might be helpful. Always a work in progress. 💜 What type of classes do you teach that use slides?

    • @krystalA5379
      @krystalA5379 3 года назад

      Yes, I agree its always a work in progress. I am creating my first online stats course and I actually am testing it out this semester by offering it free to a group of 10 students. Its my first course so this will allow me to adjust it based on their feedback and results at the end of the term. A lot of the advice you gave I use in my layout ..especially the consistency. I am creative so I'm always tempted to go overboard with the animations but realized simplicity and consistency is key.

    PPT

    • @VirtualTeachingPro
      @VirtualTeachingPro  3 года назад

      You're so fancy! 💜 😀 PPT has soooooo many bells and whistles! Honestly, I wish I start with PPT but when I was in grad school I had to use MAC products bc they were free and already on my new laptop. We did like 4 hour lectures in grad school. The amount of slides was wild.

    • @lisachappell9387

      @@VirtualTeachingPro Agreed. PPT is much better than it used to be. I would like to expand away from it more. Yes, our classes are 4 hours and with content heavy classes sometimes there are 100 slides or more per lecture (up to 4 in 4 hours). Pretty boring from a student perspective. I like your idea of a framework and consistent design. I am going to try to incorporate this more.
