Randy Johnson, Edgar & Tino Martinez, Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr., Jay Buhner... How the hell did they not make it to the world series, heart-broken 5 year old me will always wonder.
I remember the Indians being a better team that year. Then when Ms won 117 in 2001 The Yankees rallied around 9/11 everyone knew they would win that ALCS. That Mariners team had some bad timing.
To me, beating New York in the way that we did was all that I needed. I was in the Seattle Kingdom for each of the 3 ALDS 1995 home games (as well as the Cleveland Indians games). The city-wide exuberance was something I'll never forget. It was ALL anyone talked about. I owned a coffee house at the time and the buzz was total dedication to the M's.
Indians were better that year for sure. Mariners should have been better in 1996 but the front office decided to dump Tino, Mike Blowers and Jeff Nelson. Aholes.
I’m a Yankees fan watching this and remembering this loss was heartbreaking but wow man, the most epic entrance in a playoff game I’ve ever seen in my life. I don’t know if that was Randy’s choice or the audio crew’s but that was pure genius, that song perfectly exemplifies the Randy Johnson experience for hitters in his prime.
My social studies teacher in 10th grade put the '95 playoff games on if they overlapped with school time, and allowed us to watch in class as long as we did our work. So much fun! Those were good times, even if we never made it to the World Series.
Pretty special for me. I was 18. And as graduation present my parents got me tickets to the game. Little off to left . Behind home plate 100th level 9 rows back. It was epic!! Still get chills whenever I see it on tv or think about it. Specially whenever I hear McLamore’s song about that time. 95 was magical.
All of the super star, hollyweird, etc., stuff is certainly cool. But, I still enjoy watching a true professional take his or her position. Randy takes the mound, gets the ball from his manager, listens to what his manager's plan is, then gets on task with the catcher....professional leads to LEGENDARY!!!
Straight up goosebumps. I never knew about Johnson until I saw SBnation's videos about the Mariners and I just had to see this man for myself. Goddamn, how are you NOT intimidated when this man steps on the mount?!
If you have gone down the big unit rabbit hole you have probably already seen it, but his at bat with john kruk in the all star game is legendary. The look on his face is the definition of scared shitless
@@codenamelarry6518 ESPN is irrelevant. They’re like the Simpsons: a deteriorated imitation knock-off version of their former selves coasting off their own coattails.
I was at this game watching from the 300 level in centerfield. I can’t believe I got to witness possibly the most epic entrance in MLB history. It was so loud you couldn’t hear your own voice screaming.
Seriously, what kind of advice or strategy did Pinella and the catcher think they were going to provide when he first stepped on the bump? Big Unit was thinking I'm going to throw three hard ones and strike his ass out. Let's not over complicate this, guys.
I remember opposing players would ask to be given the day off so as not to face Randy Johnson, asked why they said they didn't want to get into a slump of not being able to get hits.
As great as he was, the Yanks eventually took a one run lead against him. But the M’s lineup was downright frightening. Too bad for Jack McDowell because aside from that nightmare inning, he pitched well to keep NY in the game.
@Clinton Westerfield - DCHS 2023 my thoughts exactly. When Norm or any of those Reds relievers from the 90 season came into the ballgame I felt pretty good about the eventual outcome. They pretty much made every game in which the Reds were leading into a 6 inning game.
I had no idea he walked out to Welcome to the Jungle. Holy shit
Go Cardinals me neither bro I was fuckin floored lol
Of course he fucking did! Look at the prick!
I was there. Greatest moment I've ever seen in person. The energy in that Dome at that moment was incredible.
@@MarioJLanza wish i coulda been there. I was a few miles away and 2 weeks old though
Kind of related, but Axl was a recluse by 95.

Cheap ass front office

Bullpen was terrible
ever notice how you never see Bigfoot and Randy Johnson in the same room?
Johnson is from California... Hmm...
I watched this in real time and have never forgotten it. It was awesome to be a Mariners fan this very night.
Wade Boggs when he hears the final boss music.
The catcher was saying something to Big Unit at the end, Johnson was like "STFU, get back there and catch the f'ing ball."

You know Boggs was shitting himself listening to welcome to the jungle with that monster staring at him.
Thanks Jomboy
What a Magical time to have been in Seattle: we were all glued to this game (radio/TV) no matter where in the city or the surrounding!

I swear to the Gods this is my favorite sport moment EVER! Still gives me the chills. Brilliant move.

He had this way of walking to the mound where all 6’7” of him was leaning forward as he walked - that, and the mullet and ‘stache? Pure magic.
How tf did you not know about Randy Johnson until watching a YT video? He’s one of the all time greats…
Actually closer to 7 foot . 6’10 or 6’11. Dude must have looked like a giant on the mound
If you have gone down the big unit rabbit hole you have probably already seen it, but his at bat with john kruk in the all star game is legendary. The look on his face is the definition of scared shitless
Big Unit is 6’10”!
Shout out to Jomboy!
ESPN needs a show on him
@Thomas Herbort no i think he needs to stay right where he's at

If America was a MLB pitcher.
Favorite player of all time.
It's like straight out of the movie Major League only it actually happened. GO M'S!!!
For real
25 years later OH HOW I remember that game.
When Sweet Lou made this move he said "they are going to tear the roof off the Kingdome!"
Randy walks to the mound. What a unit.

Wow! So cool!
Ranjo well known metalhead here in Seattle so of course he has GnR as his walk on music. *Thanks Jomboy!*
If Randy Johnson wasn't a Dominant Starter then he would be a NASTY CLOSER!
Big Unit looks like a villain from a Rob Zombie movie
Talk about straight out of a fucking movie/video game moment!
Thank you for this
edit: forget it I thought you actually included him pitching
Reminds me of major league the movie lol
I couldn't imagine having to go up against him. So calm and ready to give all he's got.
Seriously, what kind of advice or strategy did Pinella and the catcher think they were going to provide when he first stepped on the bump? Big Unit was thinking I'm going to throw three hard ones and strike his ass out. Let's not over complicate this, guys.
He had a mean slider too. But I hear ya lol
Exactly what I was thinking! Randy's like, yeah I know, I know, I know. I know how to do my job.
this was lit

Had to come back to see the Big Unit bring the house down.
Chills in 2023
WILD THING!
Damn, listen to that crowd!
Wanna throw fast?
Yeah I wanna throw fast!
How the heck these guys didn't win a World Series just LAYING DOWN..?
LORD PALMERSTON!
Big Unit
Awesome moment in baseball history. Leave it to Musberger too talk too much as always.
absolutely terrifying
Livermore’s Finest
And we all know who rises when it's desperation o'clock.
Was “major league” the movie based off randy or what. Because the similarities are insane
Major League came first. This moment was based off of Major League.
"Wild Thang!"
that title belongs to the great Mitch Williams
It looks like a wolf walking out
What’s the song that plays when randy Johnson enters.
Welcome To The Jungle...by Guns n Roses
Mariners the last team to never have been to a WS.😭😭😭😭😭
Ice in his veins.
What’s the context?

I may never know why i got this on my home page but I’m pretty damn happy i did
Norm wasn't happy. He coulda got him out.
You're fucking out!
Norm Charlton was the cause of so many panic attacks for me.

Norm was good for the Ms during that run. Imagine if Bobby Ayala was still the closer during this series.
wade boggs is rolling in his grave
