You got that right. When I was a kid in the 60's my mom and dad watched this every week. I cared nothing for the show except when JoAnn cranked up. That was enough to get me into the lliving room in about 3 seconds.
She’s great and she is solely responsible and deserves the credit for introducing so many people to Ragtime and Scott Joplin and other classic ragtime composers.
I loved that guy. Awesome music. Miss Castle is very talented . I once lived in an apartment in the back of a dancehall where Lawrence Welk used to tour from North Dakota, when he first started out, as a small time band. Before my time, of course, but the Coliseum was locally famous because he used to play there, back in the day.
Welk never really credited composers unless they were big names like Irving Berlin or Cole Porter. Honestly, he would also often forgo mentioning the name of songs, especially in the later years.
That piano roll is not actually played by Johnson- it’s actually an arranged Connerized roll, with Johnson credited as player, but not actually having played it. It was a common practice at the Connerized roll company.
Fantastic performance😊❤
As Lawrence Welk said she is the "QUEEN OF THE RAGTIME PIANA"
and again he was right.THE BEST OF THE BEST.
We would watch Lawrence Welk just to see Jo Ann Castle play!!!

I could listen to this fine lady playing honkey tonk All day

She introduced so many to Ragtime. I learned about the book They All Played Ragtime and the classic Ragtime composers because of her.
Just live this genre with some Lawrence Welk. Walk down memory lane. You made a smile in my day!
Wow! brilliant!
I didn’t realize it was so dark inside the Lawrence Welk studio. Jo Anne certainly has her high beams on!! 👀
INCREDIBIL
Im convinced some pianists have 20 playing fingers
Bellissima!!!
It was such a time............. Alas, gone.
But we get to watch the old times again and again in the comfort of our homes now. I think it's a good time still, a good time indeed!
a ragtime Musica

Big Tiny Little also played a good version of this as well
Why did Lawrence not mention the composer?

Jo Ann Castle could have wiped the floor with Art Tatum. Tatum is nothing compared to her.
A little too much syncopation. There is a piano roll of Johnson actually playing this.
