    ABOUT ME:
I’m Liam Harrison, Bolton born and bred. I’m a lover of Golf, life and laughter.
Started Golf 12 years ago after packing in football when i was 28 due to a back injury.
I started the RUclips channel as a laugh and a Wim, to make me practice but that went out the window as i started vlogging, loving being on camera but more so the interaction with my #golfmates.
In 14 months i have seen the channel evolve and become the only real golf community on RUclips which i am extremly proud of.
I would like to thank all the #golfmates that have been with us and supported us and the channel from the start. Also not forgetting our new #golfmates that may have only just come across the channel.

Rich, the biggest thing I see, and I do not know if your back is causing this or not, but your abbreviated backswing is costing you a lot of distance, and possibly some accuracy on hitting the club face square. However, if it is your back responsible for that, one on the best things you can do is just work on your tempo. You'll be straightening it out in no time.
One of the biggest things that get in the way of good play by us amateur golfers is our ego. Most amateur golfers will hit their 3 wood as long, or almost as long as their driver, but with a lot greater accuracy. However, we just can't seem to do it when our mates are pulling out driver all the time. Whenever I have struggles with the driver, I leave it at home so I do not use it and am forced to use my 3 wood all day. I may not be as long as my mates, but my ball is almost always in play!
      Good luck Golfmate!

By far Liam, this is the best youtube vlogs out there, down to earth real every day #golfmates doing what they love to do. Yes some are exceptional golfers, young and old, but there are a lot of us old chaps out there playing loving the game scoring in the 90's and 100's! Like you said, "Life is Life" and no one died! We all need advise at one time or another and I like your devotion helping your fellow #golfmates! Cheers! Wishing you the best Mr. Smith with your golfing!

Mr. smith. I am positive you can easily break 100 and even 90 and even 80. You seem to be physically capable. Number one thing is stop coming over the top. Every shot that goes left is over the top. Fix that and your off to the races mate. You just have to start there. Then you can go on. I know you can do it. GOOD LUCK!!

Hey Rich all the best fella. Try slowing your swing down and getting a smoother action. At the moment you're tending to snatch at the ball at the last minute, and that last minute change in swing speed is pushing you off balance and off line.
Slow everything down and don't be frightened of pausing at the top of your swing so you get a more deliberate and controlled downward swing. Get out once a week and practice for 1-2 hours because you can't change your game on the course. Practice is something we don't do enough and I'm certainly guilty of that.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll be pushing to break 100 hundred real soon.

Well done Rich and Liam. Knowing Rich as I do, he beats himself up like he did on the golf day, he was worried he let me down. That's one reason he struggled that day. Another is club selection as Liam highlighted so well. I showed him how to use the core better, he does get wristy, but that is because of his back. Brilliant stuff Liam, I'm going to have a game with Rich in the next few weeks, hopefully before he sees you next time. I'll show him better club selection like you did here. I'll just play with 6 iron 8 iron and a few wedges and putter to show him we don't always need driver etc to break 100. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before Rich is shooting in low 90s. He just needs that go to shot we all have with experience and believe. Well done lads.

Mr. Smith, I think your best shots are produced when you get your weight transfering onto the left side through the shot. You have a tendancy to hang back a little and your accuracy suffers a bit. Added bonus youll probably pick up a few yards with more weight transfer!

    Seems like a lovely fella!
I think he’s coming up out his posture too early but that might be him compensating for his bad back.
If he could stay down through impact and maybe slow his swing down a bit he could break 100 easy.
It’s all about getting rid of the wild shots, if u can keep it on the golf course you’re scores will improve dramatically. Good luck #golfmate

Alignment sticks for Mr Smith. Line up like he is aiming at a flag and then put the sticks across his feet, I think you will find he aims right naturally and that’s why he pulls the driver left because of over compensation. 90% of the time is right hand side with irons from the fairway because it’s more relaxed, I used to do it, always felt I was aiming straight but was a long way right.

  • @FreeTech
    @FreeTech 4 года назад +5

Tell you what Rich, it's not easy when being watched but hats off to ya there. I think try to stick to your shorter clubs from 6 iron upwards. You will be surprised that you would probably get more distance from a clean hit on a 7 iron than a shakey 4 iron shot. Your short game looks pretty good, it seems to be the longer game that's affecting you. Play for bogey on every hole so you don't feel the need to smash it then you will break 100 no problem guaranteed.
Another thing that helped me is try not to hit hard. You actually get more distance from a smooth controlled swing. So no smashing it lol. Could even try playing a round with half or 3 quarter swing.

As I’m a 20 handicapper myself I’m not going to pretend I know what I’m talking about but thinks I’ve learnt in my first year of playing golf and breaking 100 (and 90 once). Is to hit the shot you’re most confident hitting, a nice 150 yard 7 iron is much better than a duffed 120 yard 3/5 wood or long iron. And on holes less than 350 yards don’t hit driver unless it’s nice and wide and you’re swinging well. Most of all try and enjoy it, over 90% of all golfers in the world are high handicappers so don’t worry about it.

  • @jonglendye2589
    @jonglendye2589 4 года назад +1

Positive thoughts on EVERY swing...I don't care if you're 5 off the tee after carving two OB...THIS is the only shot that matters...One swing won't ruin your day with a 20+ handicap, but one swing can lift your spirits and bring you back for more! Save the math for later!! At the end of the day, if you love the game, it'll love you back (sometimes it's tough love, though!! ) Honestly, save my full head of hair, I thought I was looking in the mirror LOL...Keep at it!!

3 min in: Mr Smith needs to be on camera full time! He's an 8 handicap when being filmed! 5 min: Slow down and lengthen the backswing, use a german to pitch. Final thoughts: Spend hours practicing the sand and putting like "golf sidekick". Sink 10 putts before 1st tee and hear that sweet sound of the ball in the hole. Hands in front of the ball, trust the club loft to deliver, no need to scoop it. Play the OMP's traffic light system. Learn to lay up to your favorite and most reliable yardage to attack the pin from. I didn't notice your putter, hopefully it's a high MOI mallet with good alignment aids. Stripes on the ball for added line and swing clarity. You're a great golfer, be confident and envision great shots one at a time. If you blow a shot, leave it there! Your next shot will be great!

Leave the driver at home. Try to get more body turn. I wear a foam sports back support in cold weather. It helps keep muscles warm.

Some great tips that I’m sure I’ll use. I’m a 31 handicapper (only started playing in May) and my best score is 104 but I average 108-110 regularly, I’d love join you for a round and you can throw some tips my way

Liam, loving these vids with the tips. Been playing for just over 3 months, (watching you for all that time), so it really helps beginners like me. Any chance of a short vid explaining the scorecard?

Tom Boston you are right 150 yards Ono the fairway beats 300 into the woods every time.

Mr. Smith, you have a good form. Listen to Liam, watch videos, and have fun. Swing U is an app on the phone I use and gives you your handicap. I have been playing since I was about13 years old. I will be 65 this dec.I tell myself, at a 14 to 17 handicap, I am not good enough to get mad at the game. Laugh and have fun, life is too short. Thanks Liam, great video.

Biggest thing is club selection in my non-golfer opinion. Work backwards from the hole. If you love the German...work backwards in distance to make sure you get the nine in hand on the approach shot.

Rich , mate, with your skill all you have to do is keep the ball in play. Don`t be over ambitious on a shot by shot basis. Shorter not short shots. Good luck.

I think if he slowed his swing down and lengthened his back swing that would help alot. Apart from that just a but of course management he should break 100 easily. Keep it up fella 👍

Everyone reacts different to pressure. Some people crumble and can't put a score together, others play their best. Course and Game management is where its at. He has to think his way around and not get over confident, or overly critical of himself. Play the game and enjoy it.

Course management. Easier to see it differently when you have experience. But he has a great foundation it's just ironing out the consistency.

Mr Smith can easily break 100. I would suggest selective use of driver and ditch anything lower than 6 iron when hitting from the fairway or semi. I can see Mr Smith playing off 18 without too much effort. Good video and good luck!

Rich has the same prob a lot of us have
We always want to play the right club but fail to play it properly especially the driver
The safe approach is the low score approach

Really quick backswing with what looks like a lot of tension. Maybe think of the club like a hammer. You don't just move it as quick as you can, you have a rhythm. So don't think about slowing down or speeding up, think about the rhythm you need to hit the nail.

I honestly believe Mr. Smith shoots under 95 with the advice you've given him Liam. Good solid advice for a high handicapper. But Mr. Smith has a pretty nice compact swing. Less can go wrong with that type of swing as long as he concentrates on each shot....but don't over-think each shot. I've got a fiver on him shooting under 95! Cheers!

8:37 onwards is the number one biggest issue.....mental demons. Rich has got more than enough basic skills to break 100 regularly, but his brain won't allow him to. I couldn't break 90 for a about 18 months because I would talk myself out of it. If I got a good start it would be "well, it's all gonna go to shit soon" or a bad start..."well, that's my day over".
I found I could play well for 3, maybe 4 holes at a time, then the pressure I put on myself to not 'eff up caused mè to 'eff up.
So along with some OMP and Golf Sidekick course management tips, I developed my 3 hole strategy. Mentally, I just broke my round down to 6 x 3 hole mini rounds
I set a target for the first 3 holes, and then whatever happened I mentally wiped those 3 holes from my brain, and concentrated on reaching/bettering my goal for the next 3....etc, without EVER worrying about my overall score.
My handicap over the last 9 months has gone from 27 to 16, and my actual skills have only improved marginally.
    It's a mental game...

Mr Smith looks like a powerful bloke. Might want to concede a little bit of power for accuracy/consistency.
He'll break 100 easy with a little practice and confidence building! My bet is 94.
