    ABOUT ME:
I’m Liam Harrison, Bolton born and bred. I’m a lover of Golf, life and laughter.
Started Golf 12 years ago after packing in football when i was 28 due to a back injury.
I started the RUclips channel as a laugh and a Wim, to make me practice but that went out the window as i started vlogging, loving being on camera but more so the interaction with my #golfmates.
In 14 months i have seen the channel evolve and become the only real golf community on RUclips which i am extremly proud of.
I would like to thank all the #golfmates that have been with us and supported us and the channel from the start. Also not forgetting our new #golfmates that may have only just come across the channel.

I cant give Rob any advice as I have only been playing 3 months myself so have no idea what I'm talking about. But I think you for sure should make more video's like this. I like this kind of video a lot, Liam. One of the biggest traps for us (myself included) new golfers is hitting the big clubs as hard as we can, and not laying up when the obstacles say to do so. Just taking the ego out, like you and OMP have stated, makes things so much different/better for us! Practice, practice practice...but right practice with guidance and purpose is essential.

Liam these are great videos, even looking at rob there it’s making me realize about things I should work on, lately I’ve taken OMPs tips for the traffic light system into play and really helping. Also like rob I used to always use my 56 degree around greens, now I’m using a 7 iron and it’s much better. Great videos and I look forward to seeing more. Best of luck rob breaking 100, you can definitely do it mate.

Great video. Rob has all the basics, I can’t believe he has never broken 100. Maybe he’s not playing enough or his concentration or focus goes when he hits a bad run. When he said he errs on the side of bravery that could also be a problem. Play simple. I believe he is right on the cusp of breaking 100 anyway. Your and the golf mates will have him braking 90 in no time. Also the new Handicap system thats coming in will lower his handicap. Looking forward to next weeks video.

I like these sort of videos. You should do more. I broke 80 for the first time the other day. I was playing alone and didn’t get held up so played my way and I think it helped a lot.
Rob has a massive over swing. It’s hard to control the club when you over swing leading to dead shots. He should go to the range and video his swing and try and shorten it and learn where the correct length is. That helped me loads. I’ve only been playing 14 months and I’m off 11.3 and only play or practice 4-6 times a month due to life commitments. I do watch a lot of RUclips in my free time so I can say watching videos and practicing what you see can help. Also, with chip shots, keep your head down and just think one thing “commit to the shot” helps me massively. I’m very good at chipping because of this one thing I taught myself.
Good luck mate. It will come in time. Keep at it.

Very brave of ya to come out and have a bunch of dudes from the internet critique your game on youtube! Shows a lot of grit and a determination to improve your game. I'd be so nervous to do so, but what a great opportunity! Cheers to that. And right off I noticed your swing is super smooth, beautiful, and well tempered. You've got some great rounds ahead of you I'm sure. Just need a bit of course management and wood-shedding a few concepts and you'll be there. Definitely agree to the advice of pace putting exercises. My granddad used to always say, "Just put it into the big barrel," meaning to visualize a larger space around the cup where you want to land your first put. About a wine barrel or hula hoop size. That's always helped me get puts down in two consistently. And I can say from personal experience that removing the loftier wedges from my game recently - unless I really need to get over an obstacle - has helped tons. I've dropped about nine strokes from my game since I started hitting a 7 or 8 around the 40 yard and in zone when possible. I'd say getting to a range and dialing your distances in would be good. Maybe even play a practice round or two leaving every other club in the garage might help. Sometimes when I feel like my distances are off, I'll do that. Just take out odd numbered irons 9, 7, 5 one day and evens 8, 6, 4 the next. That always seems to get me thinking more about how the irons feel and actually gap. Also really grooving your swing to hit the ball first. It takes a lot of practice to do, but it really helps to eliminate fat shots. So many golfers hit behind the ball and it causes not only a loss of power but the ground can turn the head in your hands and you lose accuracy too. Get a range finder app or device too. Knowing really real distances has helped me a lot. There are free ones for your mobile. And last I'd say just focus your attention on the shot at hand. What is it? What's the best option? Sometimes I think of a bad shot choice just to remind me that the one I'm choosing is a good one and to stimulate my creativity. I can get caught up on the next shot or the last shot or the last hole or yesterday's troubles or tomorrow's worries. But at the end of the day, in that moment, I get to swing that golf club and hit that ball and that's pretty fun. You deserve that little moment of joy, so breath in the air, smell the grass, and feel the breeze. Turn on all your senses and soak it all up. Smile and have fun! Just for that one shot. For those three seconds, let go and swing with gratitude for the moment. Cheers golfmate!

Reason I hold the bottom of the grip with my clubs is that I was poorly fitted with stock shafts which are a bit long, pair this with me being 5'6'' means I was always fatting the ball. With regards to the putter, this is similar, I feel I have more control with the putter when I grip like that.

What a great video Liam. I noticed some people have commented on Rob's swing technique. Whilst there are some good tips in there I am not sure if the video is aimed at improving his skill. It is obvious Rob has ability and with good advice on course management from Golfmates like Liam and OMP he will have no problem breaking 100. On a few shots he made great swings but aimed where he sent the ball. I would say course management and a solid pre shot / post shot routine would really help.

I use the same putting grip style and handle as he does and one thing you can't do holding the club that way (or any putting grip style for that matter) is to let your wrists break down and use your hands/arms to control pace, the moment you do that the clubhead opens and shuts as you flip the head with your hands.... There's no way you can get a flush strike on the putt doing that, you'll hit thin putts from the bottom of the putter and some you may even catch the ground... hence you have no chance of predicting how fast the ball will go. He has to use his shoulders and rock them back feeling the hands being very quiet with grip pressure light enough you can feel what the clubhead is doing but not so light that the wrists break down. A good feel for me is feel the trail shoulder going up and lead shoulder going down and keeping that triangle made from both shoulders and the hands in tact and try to feel the pendulum of the putter head and the weight of the head starts the downswing..... it's a putting stroke not a hit, a gradual acceleration of the putter head.

    • @fz6rider04
      @fz6rider04 4 года назад +2

Ah. I agree with this 100%. I think you could drop the strokes you need to break 100 just with putting. I personally dont feel like I am a good enough golfer to give golfing advice, but I am a therapist and do feel I can give body mechanic advice. If this is the putter grip you like to use and are going to keep it then a good way to stabilize your arms and maintain the triangle pendulum mentioned in the first comment is to gently pull your shoulders back once you have your stance. You want the feeling of squeezing your shoulder blades together but not to an extreme, just a slight retraction of the shoulders about 1/2 the distance possible within the range of motion back. This stabilizes your shoulder blades makes it virtually impossible to swing your arms free and independent of your body. Then if you stabilize your wrists so you dont flip the putter head I think it will make your contact and line much more consistent. Practice that with the tip Liam gave you for pace and once you get used to maintaining that triangle and creating the swing with your body and shoulders you will be making more puts and dropping your score. Good luck and good on you for being willing to do this video with Liam. Loved it. Cant wait to see you meet your goal.

I just started a couple of months ago, I find that I swing like I’m trying to force it to the green so now I try to go for a 50-70% swing to control the power and use more technique and use the loft and not the swing power. Good video Liam and thank you Rob for asking for the help. Not long until you break 100 mate. Use slightly more expensive balls it will make you more cautious and think about club, loft and power. ⛳️🏌🏻‍♂️

Decision 17-1/5 covers it. As long as the flagstick is removed from the hole, you aren't leaning on it, and the ball doesn't hit it, you're in the clear.

  • @simonwells2647

    Great video Liam!
My points on Robs game.. IM NO EXPERT THOUGH!
His down swing looks very quick, if he slowed that down and concentrated on getting a good strike I think his flight will be much more controlled.
Couldn’t agree more with Liam when Rob hit that ball out of bounds. He’d hit two good previous drives and then decided to hit an iron which brought all the danger into play.
When hitting your driver, consider where you tee the ball up. If possible tee the ball on the right hand side to allow extra room for the sliced.
When playing the bump and run, understand how far the ball will run after it has pitched. Once you’ve understood that picture the spot where you want to pitch the ball then play your shot. Always commit to the stroke (the first chip on the par 3 the swing tempo was completely different to other chips)
Putting stroke also looked a little jerky, practice your stroke over and over. To gain extra distance try not to hit the ball harder just make the backstroke longer.
All in all I think it’ll be very easy to break 100! Keep at it Rob.

I feel Rob did pretty well playing in front of the camera and having someone there judging his swing. It would be enjoyable to play a round a golf with him.
So, a few years ago, I was able to help someone drop 10 strokes on their handicap and win the club championship in the same year. Typically, the fastest way to lower handicaps is improving the short game. A pro should look at how Rob is gripping the club. Hands in correct position? Why is he choking so far down the club? Are the clubs correct for him? Further, Rob's swing is a bit steep and hits the ball a bit heavy. He should ensure that he is not lunging as this is a sign of hitting behind the ball. Try to reduce the body movements on those short swings. Rob's golf swing just needs refinements. Using the bump and run shot around the green is OK but for me, it's based on conditions (fast, hard, slow, soft, lot of green to pin or less green to pin, etc). Fun video. Most important advice that I can give HAVE FUN!

ahh this is brilliant. i see alot of similarities in my own game(i usually hit 100-120). the swing is there, gotta be more confident in your shot and what your doing cause you can strike the ball rob. i think the first tee shot was just down to it being on camera. the tee shot that went high i think was because the ball was a tad too high on the tee and you got under it, try using the coloured tees that only go so far in, pink or orange is usually good for a driver, ive noticed a massive improvement since switching from a traditional style tee to the plastic pink ones, that way i know the ball is sat the same for every tee shot. and just try and loosen up and not hit the ball too hard, let the club do all the work.
defo get rid of the wedge, i only just started using a wedge myself practicing on a range, i honestly thought i could do what i want with it, but when i played with it on a course for the first time, it did everything but, was taking 2/3 shots to get on the green every time, i soon learned that hitting a wedge on grass is completely different to a matt..so i went omp style 7 or 8 iron and started bumping it on the green, it will take some practise, but aslong as there isnt and obstacle, omp it every time ;)
and i think this is where the biggest thing is, ive realised this recently(my short game and putting is shocking), rob said it was his short game that let him down, ask your self, how much time do you spend on a chipping/putting green in comparison to the driving range. in the past 2 months i must of hit 600/800 balls on the range, and not a single one on the putting green right next to it, and then i wonder why i usually 3 putt sometimes even 4 if the greens arent great. so it might be worth only taking shorter irons and a putter down to a range, i tend to hit 5 or 10 with the driver then leave it now and just practise my short game because honestly i think were very similar, we can both play, we just need to find the mistakes in our game and remove them, but its sometimes hard to work out what your doing wrong, especially if your like me and arent sure what you should be doing in the first placce haha
the putting drills in the video look great, im defo going to give them a go.
sorry my comment is so long, im no expert or anything, far from it, i do think we play similarly and that weve both easily got it in us to beat that 100 mark. looking forward to seeing you do it :D

In my opinion Rob could break 100 using around 5 clubs only.
One for hitting off the tee that could be used for 2nd shots on par 5's and long par 4's, such as a 3/5 wood or hybrid.
One for advancing it down the fairway at least 150 to 160 yards, also on tight tee shots, maybe a 6 iron
A club for 130 yards and shorter, also for chipping/pitch and runs, possibly an 8 or 9 iron
A sand iron/56 degree wedge for out of bunkers and pitching over trouble
    A putter
This also means less decisions have to be made, as you have less clubs it's usually obvious which club can be used for each shot. I personally love to take 5 clubs out a few times a year, it's really enjoyable.

I totally agree, i often beat my mate by a few shots just because he insists on using his 64-deg wedge whenever he's inside XX yards, bump and run with a 7 is my choice 90% of the time, and i hit 7/10 which is much better than he's 3/10 with the wedge.

Liam....I have to agree with your assessment of what he needs to work on. Chipping and putting skills can save you so many strokes during a round of golf. OMP is a great example of how to manage a course. He doesn't hit the ball over 300 yards off the tee...but he knows exactly how far he hits each club. He needs to learn long he hits each club on average...not how far he thinks he can hit it. The only way you learn that is on the practice range! When I had my 4 handicap, I went to my local practice range and hit at least 100 balls and the practiced chipping a putting for at least an hour. I would also have him hitting a 3 metal off the tee instead of a driver. It's easier to hit it straight because of the added loft.

Well done Rob, not easy being on camera and baring all to 1000's of people! First thing is if you think your short game is a weakness, practice it. Everyone gets on the range and hits balls, but if you put in the time practicing chipping, knowing what you can do with the clubs you'll get more confident. I started golf through playing pitch and putt, so I struggled with the long game at first. Its different for everyone, I chip and pitch with my wedges (50, 54 and 60) but it depends on the lie and position. Its worth experimenting on a practice round, try things you wouldn't normally. Last thing, watch the short game with Seve. It's my go to whenever I'm struggling. Good luck, I'm sure you'll crack 100, just a matter of time and practice!

Firstly, fair play pal, not easy to go on camera and have your game analysed.
To break 100 you just need to play consistently for 18 holes.
High handicappers always suffer at the beginning and end of the round.
I’d recommend a decent warm up to get that swing loose and making sure you eat around the course to keep energy up at the finish.
I get the feeling his game has a lot of scar tissue, and he carries this around with him.
    “Thats a typical Par 3, for me - shoots a 6
Aims left on all tee shots, cause he slices, but doesn’t slice the ball.
Plays 48deg for every chip shot, I’d guess he has written off his other clubs as they aren’t comfortable.
Plays a 6iron every fairway shot, again feels comfortable with it and not comfortable with the correct club.
More disappointed with a high straight drive than hitting three tee shots OB.
    etc
I’d say the biggest take away is to practise practise practise just to increase your confidence on the course. I’d say you are currently resigned to score high, almost waiting for the blow up hole.
Celebrate your good shots, don’t dwell on the bad.
Also, have a clear idea of what is a good score on a hole. Much easier on 400yd par 4s when you know it’s either a Par 5 or 6

Rob, your swing is all hands. That’s why you’re inconsistent. You need to turn your shoulders more and have your hands higher and further away from your head at the top of your swing. Currently you’re too steep - that’s why you fat and cut the ball. Also, your pitching at 10 mins, watch your head movement- that’s why you duffed/thinned it. Loads to be positive about though. Just needs some work - get a lesson and work on your takeaway.
