Few will understand how powerful it was for a young black leader to tell us, young black kids in the early 90s, to be vegetarian and conscious. The danger wasn't merely in what Kris Parker imparted but in what he espoused. We would've crushed markets as we now know them. I remember that, between KRS and PE, I understood a clear message that I would never serve the government as a "sheeple" and that, as a black girl, I was not a full "American" with all the rights and abilities afforded to me. Those brothers shaped the way I thought and my ability to to think outside of my box. They did the same for so many that these brothers deserve medals for their victory in teaching true freedom from ALL oppressors. Viva Kris and Kenny Parker, along with the whole BDP crew!
+Kali Kross Well said. I was listening to this from a white, middle class, Mid-West living room in the day. Yet, I had a sense (in my middle school mind) that the artists you mentioned were doing something bold, intelligent and, yes, dangerous. I loved BDP and KRS-ONE. I loved P.E. Had a P.E. shirt I wore to school. P.E. posters in my room ("Fear of a Black Planet"...I wonder what my parents thought...although, they bought me the shirt, the posters, the tapes) and WORE OUT their tapes on my Walkman riding the bus to and from school. Of course, it wasn't until I was older that I better realized they were speaking the truth for a whole generation of young people on a different level than they were speaking to me. Regardless, I miss the excitement of those days.

The devil did it. The positivity, unity and knowledge that was coming from the culture got on their radar. They saw the power in it and polluted it until the cesspool there is now was the result. Truly disgusting
