It’s crazy bcuz corporate America didn’t even consider Hip Hop real music in the beginning; they wanted no parts of it! Then when certain collaborations of Hip Hop and other genres started happening and the Grammys created a category for it, they noticed a little bit. But when THEIR CHILDREN AT HOME started listening, they realized, “hey we can really make some money off this shit”. And now, fast forward to 2019, here we are...in a state of the worst wannabe Hip Hop I’ve ever heard in my life! And yes, I can say that bcuz I was there in its beginnings!

@@gradymorrrowjr37 hey gradymorrowjr, it is true that there are many forces out there who don't have our interests at heart or see anything wrong with the powers that be trying to destroy us with the agendas that are designed to dismantle our psyche, our unity and our motivation to keep going. But even when it seems like we don't care what's happening to each other, I believe there are many of us who do care. For those of us who do, we are up against an evil that our people don't understand. Music was our therapy, it was a bridge builder in my generation. I'm sad to see how they use the music industry and money to dirty, dilute and dumb down the message. They have literally changed the frequency and vibration of music to f us up.
Hang in there, we have to continue to fight against it and the 1st step is in bring kind and letting each other Know we care. Stay up my brother....we are a brave and resilient people. The love we have runs deeply....that's why you're here listening... carrying the positivity forward.

TRUE STORY. I was 12 when this came out. I'm from southwest Philly (hood) but by 12 we moved to Wnyyefield which is a suburb of west Philly & where Will Smith is from....its NOT good @ all, no matter what the shows intro song says...anyway, 2 other rappers were from there , Steady B & Cool C. They killed a cop & are doing life now...anyway, 1 day I'm on my friend Corey's porch next to where Steady B lived , & SB & another producer were on their porch talking about this song & video that's coming & he wanted SB on it but they were only using NYC rappers. The producer was like "its bullshit anyway, its just a chance for the IT rappers to all put their face out there more. Some of the artist don't even give a fuck about the message".....now I'm 12 , ear hustling & hearing this! @ that moment I promised to go w my OWN heart & NOT what another person says that they stand for.....bcuz they might be full of shit.

I'm a 48 year old white guy who was 16 at the time this came out. I knew every rapper on this track and every line in their part. I had a real strong connection and affinity for this song because it was the language of the heart. Not only a great musical creation with the East Coast All Stars, but deep and meaningful. I knew it wasn't meant for me, but I always spit every line along with each artist. This track had weight, it was important at that time. It's important at this time. This country could go a long way to re-examine this project. The West Coast came out with "We're all in the same Gang" soon after, taking the example the East Coast had set. It was pretty good, but this one was my personal favorite. I still love it. It's about personal responsibility.

It was about the crack and the gun violence that was going on in N.Y.C . It got so bad that kids couldn't play in the play ground or in the projects that they lived in. They were selling crack right in front of the kids. Back then they passed a law if you sell drugs in a school yard or park your doing life. That law still apply till this day in N.Y.C.
