This game is just pure Joy. The music, things to do in each level, nod to characters we've enjoyed on the playstation throughout the years and music makes this such a chill, fun game. Adding that bird for 200 coins makes it fun in knowing that you can collect everything without stress.
I bought this game friday. Played it 11 hours and stayed up until 5 am. Played at another 12 hours on saturday amd beat the game but didnt 100% it. This is the most fun ive had playing a video game since like 2007. 10/10. Must play
Astro Bot is a fantastic platformer. Probably the most polished and graphically impressive platformer out there. The developers just nailed the soundtracks, because when it comes to platformers, you have to deliver exceptional music or its not nearly as engaging. Great platformers like these just put a smile on your face and make you happy. When you may be feeling down, frustrated, or stressed out, it is platforming games like these that makes all of those worries go away. I can see how many people would look at this and think it's not for me, and that's perfectly fine because these games are not for everyone. Any gaming genre are very subjective. But, if you've enjoyed platformers in the past, or are a huge fan of platformers, well Astro Bot will not disappoint. I would love to see more platforming games like these from other publishers. Publishers could have much lower budget costs making quality platformers like these, and when console and pc gamers see a game for $30 to $40 bucks, depending on if it is good, everyone will jump on it. Games do not have to be hyper realistic. Graphics don't mean anything if they are full of bugs with performance issues. It's better to pour more resources into nailing the performance. Gamers today are holding onto their money with every new video game release, because 9 times out of 10, games are releasing with terrible technical performance issues, and it's got to stop. If raytracing is making your game run under 60fps, then remove it. No one really cares about raytracing. Most pc gamers will either set raytracing to low, or completely turn it off for max frame rates. One day our GPUs will run with raytracing without severe fps issues, but the tech we currently have today are just being pushed to their absolute limits, and gamers aren't happy with the performance costs. Until raytracing improves, I would rather developers push for 120fps than having raytracing, or using any other graphically intensive systems that are not required in order to have a great video game experience. Many of us have 4090's, and we are playing indi-games like Stardew Valley, Core Keeper, Animal Well, and many others, which just proves my point as to why graphics don't mean as much as they once did. Yes, there are companies who sell consoles with impressive tech in them, like with Sony, who are required to deliver over the top visuals, or else no one would buy their consoles. But, the vast majority of publishers are not in the position that Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo's are in who have to deliver breath taking visuals. For all other publishers and game studios, there is no need to have $100, $200, to $300+ million dollar video game budgets. Just make fun games that run correctly on day 1, that are priced right, and gamers will jump on it every time. No more bugs, No more crashes, and No more excuses. When I see multiple crashes on Twitch, or notice major bugs, then those are red flags, and I never buy them. I simply wait. I'd rather wait for patches than buying a game on day 1, because I want my first playthrough experience to feel like the defacto way the game was intended to run. I never purchase games on day 1, because I will not be screwed by these companies. I've been like this for years, because games just suck on day 1. I never (need) a game on day 1. Nobody (needs) a game on day 1. Publishers direct Studios to say that there are Day 1 patches that are used as a tactic to trick their customers into feeling comfortable about their purchase, and yet we still see games launched with severe technical issues. Please guys, never believe in this Day 1 patching bullcrap. Day 1 patches should not be required in order to have a great experience. Companies are lazy. Publishers will put out an order to burn millions of copies of games onto disk for production purposes, when they know the game is in bad shape, then they try to fix it later. This should not be happing. Publishers and their studios need to take a good look at Nintendo's production structure, because Nintendo always delivers when it comes to quality games. Nintendo has no choice but to deliver quality products, or they risk refunds and the pulling of millions of copies from store shelves around the world. Nintendo has been this way for decades, who never play mind games with their customers, and they will always ensure their games run well, even if it means that there is a cost to visual fidelity. When was the last time you purchased a Nintendo product that crashed multiple times, had crazy bugs all over the place, or the game just could not run on Day 1? Never! It never happens. It's perfectly fine if you are a gamer out there who does not like Nintendo games, but you can't not be impressed by how Nintendo produces their games that are always feature complete out of the box. When it comes to Nintendo game releases, I always buy their games on Day 1, because I know the game is going to work correctly out of the box. That is a level of trust Nintendo has when it comes to their reputations, and it will always be this way. Nintendo will not screw you. Nintendo doesn't know how to screw you. Anyways, I'll say it one more time... If you are a publisher or studio who wants to be successful without fail, every-single-time, then just copy Nintendo's marketing strategy. I'm not quite sure what Nintendo's secret is, but if I were to guess, I think Nintendo funnels more money and resources into hiring incredible quality assurance teams. Their quality assurance teams play these new games to their bones, and when they see something wrong, that feedback goes immediately to the developers to fix. That's my theory, and if true, it's time for companies to triple down on great QA testers. Sorry for this long comment. I've said more than enough, and am not condensing or proofreading this. I'm exhausted. Thanks RTG for your thoughts about Astro Bot! - Cheers!🍻
@@BeersYourFriend "Probably the most polished and graphically impressive platformer out there." --- 3D World/Bowser's Fury is up there in terms of polish. Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is probably better in graphics, but yeah. As an old-head, Astro Bot feels like this generation's Super Mario World.

It IS just a 3D platformer. A shockingly derivative one. Most knock offs try to mask the fact in some subtle way. This thing is LEATHERFACE with a Mario Mask on.
Im going to put this on par with Kirby and the Forgotten Worlds, and nearly at the peak of Super Mario Odyssey and still holding its own with both Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy 2. That's not a bad place to hit for a studio that was doing its best to set itself apart from Mario!
Took me 2 days platinum this game, and what stop lot people going after plat will be challenge levels and Golden Bot Trophy. But it's a fun game and amazing to Play.
I think I'm about 40% of the way through and so far I agree with the Metacritic rankings for 3D platformers. Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 and Odyssey are sitting above it Mario 64 is tied with it. However that can change this game is so inventive with its mechanics. It's so original and nostalgic all at the same time. I have nothing but high praise for this game. I'll wait til I finish the game to be completely sure but this is my likely game of the year. So glad Playstation can still make games like this.

Hopefully this will be a learning experience for Sony so they can get back to what they used to be known for!

Sony should do more like this - get back to doing what they’ve always done best and make original & FUN single player adventures on a regular basis.

It's actually more likely than not
@christopherlewis6915, what could ff7r of done better to beat astro? Maybe If the peformence mode wasn't blury?
Wukong is goty
@@oliverwilliam6931 oh yeah I forgot about that one. Competition is really heating up
@oliverwilliam6931 it only got 81 metacritic, ff7r got 92 and astro bot got 94, so astro bot stands the best chance based on scores.
This game is a breath of fresh air and has something that a lot of games these days are missing............
Fun!
Give me a focused platformer over a boring open world game any day.
Great review I’m so happy this turned out this awesome. It’s kind of crazy the lack of great 3D platforming games in general there have been since Mario64
Finished my Platinum trophy yesterday, and I genuinely wish there was more to play. What a wonderful game to cleanse the pallet after Concord.
To me, this is game of the year, it gives off nostalgia vibes
I hope this game comes to pc
Never on PC. No way. Haptic feedback on your keyboard? Hahahahaha.
Would be great on PC with some tweaks to the controls
We will most likely see it land on PC next year
Sony doesn’t do exclusives anymore
Great games will be always Great games and Astrobot is there too.
Realistically GoTY is FF Rebirth - the project of a far superior scope.
The only reason i could see that being a problem is the game uses all the dualsense features. I understand a lot of pc players use the dualsense as well. I’d love to see it on there as well, I’m just not sure how they get around that
This game is just pure Joy. The music, things to do in each level, nod to characters we've enjoyed on the playstation throughout the years and music makes this such a chill, fun game. Adding that bird for 200 coins makes it fun in knowing that you can collect everything without stress.
I played this game 7 years ago when it was called Mario Odyssey

Its a beautiful & fun game , I hope they win every award because they deserve it! Go Astro! 😄🙌❤️
Big fat GOTY for me!! Haven’t had so much fun in ages, only half way through the game and I’m already addicted 🎉🥳🎊
Lol at the beginning, missed all the boxes and the puzzle piece, some top tier gameplay there
Astro Bot is a fantastic platformer.
- Cheers!🍻

This honestly seems like a celebration of Mario not PS. All the enemies seem ripped off. Coins? DK? Mega Mushroom? Mini mushroom? Fludd? Am I the only one ? Great Nintendo content as always RGT 😅
It feels like the game having no story actually makes it more replayable to me
The only ones that are saying that it's just a 3d platformer are Xbots.
It IS just a 3D platformer.
A shockingly derivative one.
Most knock offs try to mask the fact in some subtle way.
This thing is LEATHERFACE with a Mario Mask on.
@pathogeneration5138 According to you then all games are knock-offs of previous titles of the same genre.
Ahh yes Astro bot definitely defines RGTs scope of gaming
An absolute masterpiece of a game. Maybe sony will revive Sly and Jak "fingers crossed".
Took me 2 days platinum this game, and what stop lot people going after plat will be challenge levels and Golden Bot Trophy. But it's a fun game and amazing to Play.
Just wish it had PSVR2 support. It was amazing on the original PSVR.
Is this the same game that was on psvr 1?
I think I'm about 40% of the way through and so far I agree with the Metacritic rankings for 3D platformers. Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 and Odyssey are sitting above it Mario 64 is tied with it. However that can change this game is so inventive with its mechanics. It's so original and nostalgic all at the same time. I have nothing but high praise for this game. I'll wait til I finish the game to be completely sure but this is my likely game of the year. So glad Playstation can still make games like this.
Is this another one of Sony’s directives?? For everybody to go and check Metacritic for the history of 3D platformers?? 🤔🤔🤔
Did all you Ponies did the same (check Metacritic story for the corresponding genere) for EACH game they release???
@@RrEMBT I don't know how you got that out of this comment. I think Spawn Wave was the one to point this out so I had to check for myself.

It’s on par with the 3D Mario games. And I’d give it a 10/10. I’ll always prefer playing as Mario though.
No, it's really not. What tasteless disrespect for the lineage of games that invented almost everything this game without an actual identity CLONED.
This game is a beautiful celebration of what PlayStation used to be.
It’s not that deep.
Not many high budget AAA platformers out there so it’s nice to see a game like this being made.

Nah
It’s so good. Agree with the camera, but it’s near on a perfect game for what it is. I would love to see something come out this well made but be more challenging.
The funny thing is, Sony was expecting this game to just be one of their smaller releases and they expected Concord to be the huge release this year. Boy did things really not go how they expected. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for Sony so they can get back to what they used to be known for!
Funny thing is you just made that up. They marketed both games equally. They sent out Concord to die after seeing low preorder numbers and refunded everyone after 2 weeks. You would have a point this was a learning experience if Astro and helldivers didn't exist, and concord did.
At no point did Sony ever say this was to be "a smaller release"

If Astrobot is the best game we have this year that's sad for gaming
And what exactly makes it sad?
Sad for gaming ? Its the highest rated game of this year 💀
Go cry in the corner kid
Why is it sad? Because it's not a boring open world with 50 hours of bloat, another 50 hours of cutscenes and 20 hours of walking?
Astrobot getting GOTY is the best thing that could happen to the industry, send a clear signal that the Playstation community wants fun games, not boring walking simulators with unfunny dialogue.
@@Manic_PanicThe PlayStation community has been purchasing those so-called "boring walking simulators." Personally, especially if it's Horizon, Ghosts or God of War that you don't like, I think you're playing the games wrong if you think they are boring.
This game looks fantastic and watching the footage just brings a smile to my face. It looks like a joyous mix of Mario Odyssey, Sackboy & Littlebigplanet. Definitely looks like a game of the year contender.
I hope this game does really well. This (along with the total failure of Concord) should be a wake up call to Sony, and the industry as a whole. Gamers don’t want 20 different ‘game as a service’ Fortnite clones that dominate our wallets, nor do we want AAAA games that take 6-8 years to develop (basically a whole generation!!) & cost $300m+ to make and then cause loads of people to lose their jobs when they fail, gamers don’t want games that release in a broken state. Sony should do more like this - get back to doing what they’ve always done best and make original & FUN single player adventures on a regular basis.
