  • Meet Rega's most plug-and-play turntable ever, the Planar 1 PLUS
    (For more info: soundorg.com/p...)
    Rega asked, "How do we make the most successful turntable we have ever made sound better, be even easier to use and be more accessible to a wider audience?"
    The answer was simple; Rega engineers added a custom designed, high quality, moving magnet phono stage based around the multi-award winning What Hi-Fi? 5 Star Fono Mini.
    The new built in stage offers the ability to connect the Planar 1 Plus directly to almost any system that has a standard line input via a standard phono to phono cable (supplied) or phono to 3.5mm lead. Simply put, there is no need to purchase a standalone phono stage or use an amplifier with a built in stage. Your Planar 1 Plus will connect directly to any standard Line Level input (such as you would connect a CD player to).
    Stick on your favorite LP, sit back and enjoy!

    This video just helped me out massively. I'm extremely new to this, and thought I had to manually balance my tonearm on the Rega P1+. As you can probably imagine, there was a slight face-palm moment when I saw how easy it actually is. So yeah, thanks for video!

    When I upgrade my TT this is what I'm getting, though it's at the upper end of my price range it's supposed to be one of the best in that range (and no need for an extra preamp). The only problem is, which colour do I get? They're both works of art!

    Can't believe people accept a manual belt change for 45! It a joke. With more audiophile LP records at 45 this is inconvenient IMO.

    • @TheSoundOrganisation
      @TheSoundOrganisation  3 года назад +3

      Well, in that case you can keep it at 45, and only switch the belt for the occasionally 33.
      When it comes down to it, manual belt drive is a simpler circuit, leading to less points where interference can be entered into the system. Any circuit can add EM noise, and manual changes prevent that. Additionally, drives that are switchable can often get speed inconsistencies, and wear more on the belt.
      For many, the sound quality (and price savings) justify the additional 3 seconds it takes to adjust the belt. But, if that's not your speed, the Planar 3, 6, 8, and 10 all have a speed change setting through their power supplies.

    Great video, can you tell me how about the speed ? Is it have a control speed? Some turntable you are able to control the speed but here i dont see it

    • @TheSoundOrganisation
      @TheSoundOrganisation  4 года назад

      Hi there, Great question! Starting at 2:51 we show the pulley system under the platter. The pulley has two separate notches for the belt that allows you to change the speed of the turntable for 33 and 45 rpm records. Most Rega turntables don't feature an integrated or automatic speed change, preferring to use a manual pulley change (Planar 1, Planar 2) or using an external power supply like the Neo PSU to change the speed (Planar 3, Planar 6, Planar 8).

      Hiya James - yes you would need an Amplifier, or some "active" speakers to make sound - Feel free to look at local specialists to get the perfect products for your home (soundorg.com/rega/ )

    Hey Cole, I also have a planar1 of 2016 model, may I know any difference with this planar 1plus? Its a bit confusing coz I don't see any difference on how it looks like only maybe I guess the clip on stylus. By the way I also posted my unboxing video of my rega P1, pls take some time to take a look. Thanks and hoping for ur reply🤞😁

    • @TheSoundOrganisation

      Hi there! The main difference between the Planar 1 and Planar 1 PLUS is the addition of the phono stage on the Planar 1 PLUS. Most Rega turntables will still need a pre-amp, but the PLUS has one built in, making the PLUS much more "plug-n-play". The pre-amp is based on the Rega Fono Mini, but with some minor adjustments (no usb port, optimized circuits). The PLUS's appearance is nearly identical to Planar 1, though, so the two look quite a like at first glance.
      Cheers!

  • @TD402dd

    Why didn't you set the anti-skate. Oh wait a minute, the P1 and P2 don't have them. Automatic bias only means you can't set it for better carts that use less down force. They made a cheaper arm to save cost.

    • @bryceallan5743
      @bryceallan5743 5 лет назад +6

      The RB110 and RB220 both have factory pre-set bias, (not user adjustable). The setting on both model arms is factory pre-set and optimized for all cartridges. Rega spent many weeks working out the perfect pre-set to cover a wide range of models likely to be used on PL1 or PL2. Importantly, the Rega bias system increases in power as it tracks across the record surface, as the stylus follows the groove the magnet inside moves closer to the bias magnet increase gradually as it tracks across ensuring even tracking across the LP. The truth is that magnetism in this form is not an exact science and the numbers of old were simply a guide to assist setting. People often confuse tracking pressure and bias but there is no actual figure for bias. What is required is SOME bias, which is what the pre-set bias offers. The plug and play concept of the Planar 1, Plus and Planar 2 are huge selling points of these models and are supposed to make life easy not confuse. A customer seriously questioning the auto bias system I would suggest is actually a Planar 3 customer. Rest assured no channel imbalance will be heard at any point using the RB110 or RB220, that we can guarantee. If you are having trouble with tracking or Bias compensation on an RB220 I suspect they have not set the balance weight correctly and should check that before anything else. Importantly, a number or RP1 returned for service have never had the bias set at any point meaning they had run the deck from new with zero bias, this pre-set helps customers new to vinyl guarantee that the deck is optimized at all time and removes any paranoia.

    hi, I can mount an upgrade bias 2 kit on the new rega p1 or I will have anti-skating problems?

    • @TheSoundOrganisation
      @TheSoundOrganisation  4 года назад +1

      We would certainly suggest you have you local retailer or hi-fi shop help you out. Though the Planar 1 (and the Planar 1 PLUS) are designed to work with the factory-installed Carbon cartridge, it can be upgraded with the Bias 2 cartridge. However, many users have found that the mounting, VTA, and spacing can be temperamental. Proper installation should prevent skating or other issues.

      Fat Dad to fit Dad? No this is the primary difference between the ‘plus’ vs the Planar 1 - with the freedom of choice with an external phono stages could free you up to a different table in the future. But if your looking for neatness and simplicity the plus might be the simple choice

    Hi, great product intro. Just placed the order for this ..... But reading some reviews, which say the in built phono preamp is rubbish ... So I am a little worried to simply go with a P1 then an external Photo preamp ...... Please help.

    • @TheSoundOrganisation
      @TheSoundOrganisation  5 лет назад +4

      Hmm, we haven't seen any reviews that had any issues with the built-in pre-amp on the PLUS. Now, I will say that the integrated phono stage on the PLUS (based on the Rega Fono Mini A2D, but with modifications) is-in essence-an entry level phono stage. It is a great pre-amp, but there are 'better' options, like Rega's Aria or Aura. But, if you're running one of those pre-amp, the Planar 1 PLUS probably isn't the turntable you want; you'd be better served bumping up to a Planar 6 or 8.
      But, for your entry-level audiophiles, you really can't go wrong with a Planar 1 PLUS with its price and convenience. If you're still concerned, you can definitely go for the normal Planar 1. That would at least allow you the ability to try out different phono stages or upgrade your phono stage at a later date.

TT and Pre amp attached together is not ideal. This audiophileman seems like a fucking tool, but he's not wrong about not attaching pre amp to TT. Also you can't FULLY bypass the pre amp if you wanna upgrade pre amp or try out new ones. The way they circuit it it always colors the sound. Takes away high frequencies. Planar 1 and nice pre amp. No problem.

      My suggestion is to genuinely try them both and decide which is perfect for you. Yes our planar two will be a bit more of an investment but then again I assume you don't make these purchases every day - addressing the question pertaining to follow stages you need a moving magnet stage, Rega do a few choices a Fono Mini A2d,The most likely candidate but then again you can always improve upon it for a Fono MM at a later stage
