- This aired on MPTV's "Jobs" series. Dave & Marti Fine are a wonderful couple that decided life could be very fulfilling living on a lot less. In these times of long-term unemployment, it's refreshing to see folks who can live a rewarding life while making do with a lot less and reducing their footprint on our community
We downsized from a home to a motorhome. Much of our things we either sold or gave away. Getting rid of stuff can be addictive. The feeling of relief is wonderful. I no longer after to care for those items anymore. We don't have cable television or expensive cell phones. We have one cell phone we buy a card for every couple months. We have more freedom and less stress. Should have done this earlier.
I am inspired by this video, it helps simplifies my life . Love it !

I'm told that in US there are millions of people already so far below this level that they would look on these folks lifestyle and call them rich.
It says a lot when people who can afford to live "richer" choose to downsize.
Living on less works when the weather is nice, but not in the Canadian winter.
Georgeqaws I hear you. I’ve lived in Ohio and that was too cold for me. But think about it. How did people live 200 years ago? It’s doable but we are already used to comfort so it’s hard lol

Geenie44, sorry to say dryers are pretty much a daily thing for many people in the usa....I am a yank who has lived in NZ for ten years.....
They're not telling your the full story. Lets see, they aren't riding their bikes in winter, when it is typically below freezing in the morning. They're riding their bikes in the snow? And hanging up clothes to dry is being frugal. We do that all the time. I wonder if she's hanging wash out in the winter? My mother did, in Wisc. If it was too cold or raining, she hung it in the basement.
It makes me laugh when I read how people have 'downsized'into smaller houses, even the smallest house in the US is a mansion compared to the dolls houses we live in the UK - you should try those !!
Haha, true! That's why the mayor of London calls them Rabbit Hutches, or Hobbit Homes.
I know!! I was watching a documentary on this and they were saying how the family was squashed into such a small house with nowhere for the children to play and the kitchen was the size of my living room!! I literally thought 'that's a mansion compared to my house'

How is hanging laundry out to dry a new thing to do? Are we kiwis a bit odd? Some of us use dryers in winter but I refuse to own one, instead rely on the outdoors then a fire in the evenings to sort this out. Please tell me dryers aren't being used as everyday items, they use up sooo much energy?

I use my dryer as little as possible cuz I'm cheap & poor (not necessarily in that order) but here even the poorest folk would look at hanging the wash out enmasse as "bogan." Laundramats next to the trailer park will have all the dryers full. Me, I even hang my clothes in the winter (indoors). I only dry socks and underwear to kill germs.
Geenine44 I hang my laundry except for towels, but the landlord doesn't allow laundry hanging outdoors because it looks low rent.
Geenine44 Not weird at all. Remember my great grandma and grannie hanging out the wash. Daughter and I do this in the summer. Things smell better. Have to use the dryer a bit in the winter for towels and sheets. Many of my pieces of clothing hang up in the bathroom to dry on a hanger. Stuff lasts longer that way. Of course, we live in semi-rural Pennsylvania.
+Geenine44 There are actually places in the US where you're not allowed to hang out your clothes, because of how it looks. I think clean laundry blowing in the sun is beautiful!
+Geenine44 Seems about half of US clothing must hang or dry flat. In the NW there are about 4 months a year convenient to hanging things outside. They must hang inside rest of the time. Mold a problem here but it can be done with good air circulation. Pennsylvania is a great place to hang clothes in the winter. Snow and ice make things smell great!
hmm bikes...great to look forward to when the kids are grown and out of the house. Right now can't see trekking on bike from work to my kid's school to pick them up...especially during inclement weather.
Wow, what an inspiring video. I wish I was your neighbor I could learn so much. Can you tell me what kind of bikes you guys use? I figure they would have to be good ones to be used so often.
I think most people have a lot they can cut out of their budget if they just take the time to look at their spending habits
I know I am able to live on a lot less money than when I was working. I prefer to have more money in the bank then spend it on something I don't need

Plenty of people in the world have children but don't have electric dryers or cars. Just try it.

Geenine 44: IF your laundry is hanging out to dry how do you get birds from pooping on it?
My family has done this since I can remember and this has never happened. Just don't put it under a tree or anywhere where birds sit and poop, obviously. There really is no need for a dryer, though it can be nice when you have small kids or want to dry large sheets because they take a lot of hanging space.

I get it, it's great and smart to live on less by training yourself to make posssitive changes in your life but please invest into wearing a bra and maybe a tiny bit of make up wouldn't kill ya lol great video 😃
Why should women wear makeup? To confirm to the notion that they are only valuable for their level of attractiveness to others?
