Just imagine having exponential amounts of money that you could even afford to pay for the utilities in a home that large. It’s probably astronomical and the taxes on top of that. Those things never stop coming so you would have to be making at minimum 5 million a year. Not to mention home owners insurance. This is top tier home ownership.
I don't trust this estimate for a second. But it's the best one I've been able to find so far, so I'm curious how you arrived at those numbers. Maybe there's some legit data to back it up. Google for "how much does it cost to own a mansion" and there are two types of red flags indicating "skip this article now" : - Okay, first, your mortgage is going to be... No. The question was not "how much to buy" but "how much to own". My mortgage does not apply to the question. SKIP. - Okay, first you have have to consider the cost of your driver... No. The question was not "how much do all the possible accoutrements of fabulous wealth cost" but "how much to own the house." SKIP This post though says "I bet utilities cost this much." That's not all the costs, but it's an important one and sets us off on a solid conceptual footing. If the numbers are legit.
Well then, that should point the discerning customer to a new search angle... "how much do utilities on a mansion cost" And here's a result, right off the top, a few years ago : "Last month we did a utility bill review on a $16M house ... With an annual utility bill hitting $17,000. And taxes for THIS very house today (2023) : $44,000 And HOA : $5400. $66,400. Insurance it probably going to make me stop looking before I can get a number. I'm betting on "Just enter your phone number now for a quote!". Don't want a quote, just a ballpark rule of thumb or estimate or some such. "We're so smart we know insurance has variables!" And too stupid to recognize general trends. "There is no standard formula to calculate homeowners insurance. Each company uses a proprietary underwriting algorithm that weighs your underwriting characteristics differently (your ZIP code, loss history and roof age, for example)." - - - See what I mean? ...Fill in lots of personal details and... "The average cost ranges from x to 1.5x" Great. A rule of thumb has been found. SOMEBODY in the world is not a salesman or utter moron. Do I repeat myself? $1500/yr for $250k. Not knowing if this scales linearly I'll assume it does. That gets me $150,000. Finally, a hard yet utterly bullshit number. Still, better than nothing. Total? $216k. Well, I wouldn't have to be making $5M, but you would want to be up there, wouldn't you.
