Please, Please ‼️ don't sleep on Deniece Williams. That heavenly voice, the range. The lady can SANG. Her vocals are so soft, easy and innocent in the beginning, then her vocals start soaring up telling you why she feels so Silly.
At 61 years old, I’ve always said back then that this lady has the sweetest voice in music, I could listen to Neicy all day! She is a soul R&B legend! When she was paired with music producer Thom Bell it was a match made in musical heaven! Her sweet voice combined with Thom’s beautiful lyrics, melodies and lush arrangements were perfection!
I actually wasn't sure you'd like this pick, Empress, but looks like you really get why it is so special! I also love how the song has such a quiet, sparse quality, with her voice out front, almost Acapella, to tell the sweet story of longing and unrequited love! Pure 70 🔥🔥🔥!
Glad you've found one of the great, sweet voices of the late 70's, early 80's. Her top end is just terrific. Try her duet with Johnny Mathis, "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late", and her great solo hit, "Black Butterfly". What I think was really smart was how the writer and producer decided to do this in 3/4 waltz time in order to give it that danceable yet intimate feel. Brilliant.
When this song first came out it tore me up. I was working at a home for children at the time. When it came on the radio all the kids would come running to listen and wait for that climax high note then they would all cheer. It is indeed a great song by a wonderful artist.
Although I could reminisce all day about what slow grooves like this mean to someone like myself who came of age when this came out, I’m fascinated by Empress’s reaction to this because as she said she recognizes this from a “sample”. Being in my 50’s and remembering when every party ended with the lights turned down and a slow drag😇 I’m interested in how the music over the last say 10 to 15 years affects interactions and relationships 🤔
It's a joy to watch you like this song so much that you've just got to sing it, Empress. And when you were singing, you were serious about singing the way Niecy sang it.
Wow Empress! We can tell you REALLY liked this song! You were so animated! It's great to see! I was only 11 when this song came out so I was catching adult feeling for it yet, but I was captivated by her beautiful voice. My favorite by her is a duet with Jonny Mathis - Too Much, Too Little, Too Late.
@@frankiebowie6174 I know that an older singing artist died recently so I had to look it up. It was Charlie Pride I was thinking of. Sorry I got it mixed up. I'll edit my post. Thanks.
Denice got some mega hits......2 of my favorites from her is " Free" , " Black Butterfly"......if you love this song that much i cant wait to see your reaction when you hear those mentioned songs
....NIECY!??? ...nie-CY!?? ..***DENIECE WILLIAMS TRIVIA TIME!!!*** ...it's time to get silly....... - Deniece was at a crossroads at this time; She was leaving the 'Disco Diva' moniker behind (she had a #1 Disco hit in 1979 with "I've Got The Next Dance"), and doing more 'contemporary' R&B....then, she came across legendary Producer Thom Bell (The Spinners, The Stylistics), and asked him to produce her 1981 LP, "My Melody".... ...Oh, did her label (Columbia / Sony) have a PRAH-BLEM with it! ...they thought Thom's sound was 'too Old' for the 'new' 80's, and was against it.... ((🤔))
Ooh you gotta do “It’s Your Conscience “. It’s amazing . Also actress and singer Taral Hicks from the movie A Bronx Tale does her own amazing version of “Silly”.
This Deniece Williams song Silly can be compared to Bonnie Raitt song I can't make you love me. Both in my opinion are among the BEST songs EVER MADE! Almost EVERYBODY can relate to the songs meanings! 😎
This is definitely another slept on classic. Check out David Ruffin - Don't you go Home, Gladys Knight and the Pips - On & On and Major Harris - I've got over Love. Great reaction as always Empress! Keep it up. This generation don't know but we need soul music more than EVER!!!
Free is my favorite song from her (this is probably my second, then Black Butterfly). Something about the vocals and the mellow-groovy track, particularly the cymbals - you’ll know why when you hear it.
The song makes me genuinely happy and sad at the same time but this is my first time reacting to you but when you first sang that first part you sounded just as good kind of blew my mind
Niecy, the "Songbird of Soul." Listen to her sing "Touch Me Again" (Niecy's most beautiful song and a Master class vocal performance that no one will improve on), the truly fantastic "Why Can't We Fall In Love" and the absolutely mountainous "Strangers".
I guess everyone has felt this way sometime or another. It was silly of me to feel that he felt a way about me when he clearly didn’t. You live, you learn. You go on.
Originally done by the Royalettes mid 60s. This was a fantastic cover absolutely loved it Always dug this great song. Wouid appreciate if u would react to You keep me Hanging On by Vanilla Fudge in 68. Fantastic cover originally done by the Supremes. It's physedelic, Rock and more.
She broke her ankle in the middle of a show and finished the show. I think her son, grown man, carried her to the hospital after. True old school professionalism. I don't love her, I admire her. Great lady.

Can't wait for you to hear black butterfly by Denise Williams.
I LOVE anything Thom Bell produces for almost anyone, but especially for Niecy!!! Voice of a Butterfly!!!
🔥🔥
My ex who passed way in 2013 loved this song and it always reminds me of her, she is dearly missed by me R.I.P. LV
This song is so so precious. So glad to see you appreciated it. Niecy has more in store for you.
Just love when youngins finally hear our music from 70's and 80's

The LEGENDARY Iconic Ms Denise Williams

Loved your reaction and analysis of this song. It's always been one of my favorites. Williams has phenomenal vocals.
Thank u!
Add this sing to Your repertoire. You'd do that song and Deniece justice and make it Your own!

This is a straight up classic!!!😭🔥🙌🏽
This is the song Monica sampled Everything to Me. My mother had this album it was called My Melody.
My mother played this a lot when I was little, A LOT!!😁
Denise Williams' voice is amazing and she has many great songs but this is probably my favorite. ❤❤
The Genius of the LEGENDARY Iconic Mr Thom Bell

It's Gonna Take a Miracle is definitely classic. Ms. Williams has Vo-CALS for DAYS!!!!
Interesting so her label thought this song sounded dated in 1981‼️
Thank you for reminding me of "I've Got The Next Dance". I had forgotten about that one.
And her.#1 duet with Johnny Mathis is great too. Gary, Indiana didn’t only produce the Jackson’s, but her as well
Ooh you gotta do “It’s Your Conscience “. It’s amazing . Also actress and singer Taral Hicks from the movie A Bronx Tale does her own amazing version of “Silly”.
Along with Minnie Riperton, one of the backup singers for Stevie Wonder. You've got a beautiful voice too Empress. You
really do.

Love Neicy! You should check out "If You Don't Believe" and "Black Butterfly". You can't go wrong with any of her songs!
She has a voice similar to Minnie Ripperton to my ear. I do not remember this tune E. It's quite nice. Cheers
Niecy, the "Songbird of Soul." Listen to her sing "Touch Me Again" (Niecy's most beautiful song and a Master class vocal performance that no one will improve on), the truly fantastic "Why Can't We Fall In Love" and the absolutely mountainous "Strangers".
