Hello, discovered your channel today with the EMP vdeos and I really enjoyed tcontent so far. I wondered, how do you have access to so many machines? I like doing fun projects like you , but things like laser cutters, lathes, CNC are hella expensive so I can't bring some ideas to life.
I was thinking of my own lightsaber that would use a plastic blade with mirrors inside of it to reflect the light from three Nichia Nunm44v2 7 watt blue laser diodes you such that it can burn things without the plastic blade itself melting.

How'd you learn everything related to Electric, Mechanical, Electronics ? I really want to start something like that but I have no idea in how to start.
For electronics you could start with an Arduino board. Either the official one or the cheap copies on aliexpress will do it. There are kits of components too. And there is a fuck ton of tutorials on the internet. My uncle gifted me one when I was like 12, I had a lot of fun playing with it.

First of all: Lightsabers in the Star Wars universe most definitely aren’t lasers. No, seriously. Look it up, in universe, they’re magnetically confined plasmas. You can’t magnetically confine light. Second of all: lasers don’t overheat…? What are you talking about? Of course they do. Third of all: there’s so many issues about what you just said. Lightsabers don’t work for SO MANY reasons. Yes, it is true that as time goes on, science and technology advances to the point that it may one day be nearly close to a true real lightsaber. But it’s a lot less simple than “become smart, study engineering, build real lightsaber.” Sufficiently advanced technology can be indistinguishable from magic. But that doesn’t mean it IS magic. Fictional writers and engineers aren’t burdened with the same things. For fictional writers, there are no rules to follow to say that something works, they just have to say it works. For engineers, they have real life rules and limitations to follow. Do not misunderstand science as a magical solution to everything. Real engineering isn’t magically inventing things that were impossible beforehand. Real engineering is doing the best you can with what’s available. You have to compromise in the real world.
I could be wrong because I had to skim through your essay but what I got from that is you want them to use lasers to make it, while yes this could be work there would be major problems. First of all unless you had a physical attachment at the end of the blade you wouldn’t be able to stop the light and the blade would be like 30 feet long. Secondly, it would not be nearly as powerful and would take a lot more energy, which means bigger battery so bigger and heavier hilt. Overall actual lightsabers are just a pipe dream until someone invents a way to contain the light in a certain area, like the magnetic fields used to contain the blades in starwars
