hey McKenzie, so glad to hear that your dad is feeling better and is at home getting stronger. that's great news! loved the tour of your bookshelf - my fave Stephen King novel of all time is The Stand. Enjoy your new books! p.s. I put 2 Joe Hill books on hold at my library - thanks for the tip! 😊
Books were my first love, so I loved watching this video. I couldn't possibly choose a favourite because so many mean so much to me! I did read a lot of Stephen King years ago... Christine was one of my favourites of his, as were 'It', 'The Eyes of the Dragon' and 'The Talisman'. I remember when The Green Mile was first published, it came in monthly segments... such a great way to read, keeping you hooked from month to month. Books :)
Not sure if it's from the book series but there is a newer series this yr. on tv called " the Magicians". Started out with a guy who had been in a mental institution , signed himself in and was then given prescription meds and discharged. Then some weird things started happening magically and he ends up on the campus of a magic school. His best friend doesn't make it into the school and ends up with a dark group . I have downloaded the first 6 or so and then got distracted by walking dead and game of thrones so now they are over I must go back and see how it developed. Thanks for the tour, and very glad to hear your Dad is home and feeling better.
That is definitely an adaptation of the book - I've been avoiding it because I heard it wasn't too great? Or rather they skip a lot of stuff in the books and really blow through the plotlines - I think they're setting up to branch off into their own stories.
Excellent choice in reading! I've been collecting Stephen King books since I was a teenager and have just about everything in hard cover. The Long Walk is my second-favorite story, after The Talisman. Enjoy!!
Glad to hear your Dad is doing better. I love paranormal, horror novels mostly as well as good murder mystery types. I do try and branch out every once in awhile and read something from another genre that is not my ordinary go to. My favorite authors are Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Tess Gerritsen, Anne Rice, John Saul, Laurell K. Hamilton, L.A. Banks. My favorite Stephen king novel (and movie) is Salem's Lot one of his early ones. One of his books that I started to read about 3 times was The Black House. The first about 100 pages were not very interesting because it was really trying to set the background for the novel but once I finally made it past that - I could not put it down - it was so good!
I am a HUGE Stephen King fan. When I was growing up my mom had all of his novels. One of the first "grown up" books I can recall reading was "It." I'm not sure I slept for months. The Stand is one of my all time favorite books. The companion piece to The Regulators is Desperation. The original book covers were meant to be put together to form one scene from different perspectives. I am like you in that I really love every novel of his that I have read.
I loved The Passage so much I am scared to read the sequels for fear of ruining it. Loved the video, definitely gave me some ideas of what to read next. Hope your Dad is still doing well.
OH how I've been waiting for this video!!!! I freaking ADORE Stephen King. Now I must own all of the re-releases. I also own most of his short story collections (Everything's Eventual being my favorite). I've read Carrie (did that in one day), Salem's Lot (which is probably my favorite), The Shining (but it's hard to get through since I constantly compare it to the film), and The Dark Half which is just so damn amazing. I've been wanting to pick up Joe Hill's books, but I've never gotten around to it. And I think SK's wife, Tabatha, also writes. I'm so jealous of this haul!!! I must now buy books. ALL the books!!!!!!! ~Amy~
I love Stephen King..my favorite author, up there with Anne Rice, Ted Dekker and Dean Koontz. I think I have more than 40 books just from Stephen King!! My favorite book of all time is actually IT from Stephen King. Awesome video!!
First of all, I love that lipstick color on you! As a HUGE reader all my life, how did I know nothing about McSweeney's, especially the Quarterly. I covet your collection but they're too pricey to start collecting them at my age. I predict they're going to be worth a bundle some day as some are apparently out of print. Fortunately, my library has some of them! Tomorrow I'm going to pick up the one with the comic paper cover. Loved the tour. I'm going to try a couple of the authors I wasn't familiar with.
Your McSweeney's collection is AMAZING!! I just bought a copy of The Sparrow recently on a recommendation. I'm looking forward to reading it. Did you want The Magicians on Sci Fi? I'm curious what you thought if you did, or if you didn't watch it because you love it too much.
MCSWEENEY'S!!! You have close ties to them I know. I was talking to Sarah about them and realized I'm only missing three issues - newer ones! Amazing! I haven't watched the TV show, I am avoiding it out of fear and potential anger. I'll get around to it eventually ;)
Haha, I wish I was that cool, but no, no ties to McSweeney's. I work in the opposite type of publishing - boring ass text books for computer programmers and chemical engineers.
Steven King is my favorite author but Tommyknockers, lol, that was the hardest book to get through. If you can make it through the long drawn out character introductions you can make it to the end. Let me know what you think of it. Awesome collection! Was so glad to hear your Dad is doing well.
I loved your book tour. I don't know about you, but I love seeing other peoples book choices as it gives me ideas for my reading list of the future. Did you read Stephen King's The Dark Tower books? I am on number 4 and they are amazing. I am not sure about his horror style books, but I do neec to give them a try.
Very nice video! As you know, we share a love of Stephen King. I also like Joe Hill, and agree with you about "Horns," both movie and book. Haven't read NOS4A2 yet. I also love Tana French. Have "The Circle" but haven't read it yet. Glad to hear to you think it's a good intro to Dave Eggers. Thanks for sharing!
Yes we certainly do! I hope you check out The Circle! My parents are in Minot right now and I asked my mom to bring me back the new Joe Hill if she could find it - fingers crossed!
I have not watched the show - I think I'm avoiding it because I heard it's not great/that they change a lot of things? I'll get around to it eventually ;)
So, I just finished watching all your videos :) Very happy to hear your dad is doing better! :) I have to say, I'm not a fan of Stephen King, but it was still a lot of fun seeing your bookshelf! :D As for recommendation, if you haven't read Replay by Ken Grimwood, I'd highly recommend that one! It's kind of a time travel novel, but not really sci-fi... but I can't really tell more about it without spoiling the whole plot :D
loved your book tour. I too am an avid book fan. Love Stephen King, Dean Koontz, John Saul, Bentley Little and Joe Hill. Have you read The Box by Joe Hill? I thought it was great and led me to want to collect the rest of his books. Happy Reading
Thank you! I did read Heart Shaped Box but I didn't buy it because it turned out to be my least favourite of his. I've never read any of the Stephanie Plum series!
Really enjoyed the vid :) noted down a few books to keep an eye open for, i kinda got stuck in a rut reading the same genre so a step out of that might help with bringing back my book love :) My latest reads were either by Dean Koontz or Robin Hobb :) an edit just to say the book that gave me the most feels, was Flowers in the Attic by Virginia Andrews which i read at about 17, also Moon by James Herbert which really did give me the heebie jeebies!
You are not alone I haven't read or seen all of the hardy potters, I think goblet of fire was the last one I cared about vaguely. Also you need to read fight club 2 it's an awesome graphic novel, it really works for his style. Have you tried danielewski's house of leaves?
I LOVE that you said House of Leaves - I read that one and it was awesome! And bonkers! I love books like that, that play with style and stuff. Excellent recommendation. And I'll have to check out Fight Club 2 as well!
If it helps. I never got into Harry Potter either. I know I picked up the first book or two from the book club. . .it looked like one of those light-hearted, slightly wonky fantasies - and it was. . .the first one. Then the 'craze' hit. I think I read three of them, then gave up. They got too 'dark' and bleh. I finished the series via the movies and. . .really. . .could not have cared less. :P (Slightly better than the Twilight series. I could NOT get into the books. . .at all. . .and only made it through the first half of the second movie before giving up. I have no idea how that ends. I don't care. :P) Fun seeing your shelves! We do *not* have similar taste in reading, but we do seem to share the same issue. "favourite book, no, this is a favourite. I love this one, and that one and this one!" lol too many to choose *A* favourite. I do love paper books, and setting them 'just so' on my shelves (which. . .I don't have at the moment so most books are in boxes at the moment), but I do also love my ebook collection. Having my Kobo loaded and not having to haul around thick hardbacks is rather nice! But yeah, if I can get a paper book that works too!
I think I would love ebooks too, once I got used to them. There's something very cool about everything being kept all together in a tiny little device!
Me again. You may find Miss Peregrine' s Home for Peculiar Children interesting. The narrative revolves around actual old pictures that are displayed in the book. A number of sequels have been written. I don't keep books after I've read them. Let me know and I can send to you. I have a little story about a Palahniuk book. The cover freaked me out because it glowed in the dark (I didn't know that) and every time I walked by one of my bedrooms I would see this weird thing in a corner. It was the book. I nearly had a heart attack! The title of the book is Haunted.
I saw the trailer for the movie adaptation a while ago and it intrigued me - I love what you're saying about incorporating old photos in the book. I'll check that one out! Thank you :) I'll probably just get it from the library. Haunted! Haha! I don't think I knew that it was glow-in-the-dark but that would make sense, the cover is pretty creepy by itself. It's always been in a bookshelf smashed between two other books so I didn't notice!

So good to hear your father is doing well, I like Stephen King too. Dont think Dexter likes him much if he is biting your legs haha! how sweet is he wanting attention from mum xxx
So I feel lame. I just left a message on your other video and then I came here! you're library is pretty badass. You've picked my interested of a few authors. My bookshelf has a lot of classics. I've also never read any Stephen King. There is just not enough to stitch, work and read.
Did you know that The Magicians has been made into a TV series? I read the books as they first came out years ago and really enjoyed them as well. www.imdb.com/title/tt4254242/ The only Stephen King book I've ever read is The Stand, which I loved, but I'm not a horror fan so I've just never explored any of his others. So happy that your Dad is doing so much better McKenzie. Enjoyed seeing Dexter's tail go across the screen it was cute.
Thank you!
Love love love the book shelf tour! Thanks.
Thank you Annie!
So pleased that your dad is ok x
hey McKenzie, so glad to hear that your dad is feeling better and is at home getting stronger. that's great news!
loved the tour of your bookshelf - my fave Stephen King novel of all time is The Stand. Enjoy your new books!
p.s. I put 2 Joe Hill books on hold at my library - thanks for the tip! 😊
Thank you Nancy! I hope you like them!
So glad your dad is doing better! :)
You have an awesome bookshelf! Also, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is one of my top favorite classics :)
Thank you!
I absolutely love Stephen King! Enjoy your books! Thank you for some good read ideas! Happy stitching too!
Thank you Joyce!

You're the second person to mention The Talisman - I'll have to check it out! Thank you!
P.S. Books :D
Loved this video! Going to have to rewatch to note down some books to add to my wishlist.
Thank you!

I am like you in that I really love every novel of his that I have read.
Desperation, thank you! I saw images online of the cover match-up, that is so cool. I love stuff like that.
I've never heard of McSweeney's--how cool that they are totally different every time you get one. Ordering the old Hollywood Scandals one now! :)
You won't regret it, it's a great read!
I loved The Passage so much I am scared to read the sequels for fear of ruining it. Loved the video, definitely gave me some ideas of what to read next.
Hope your Dad is still doing well.
The sequel is not great, but it might be okay, but The Passage was SO GOOD that it's hard to compare. I'm nervous about the third one ;)
OH how I've been waiting for this video!!!! I freaking ADORE Stephen King. Now I must own all of the re-releases. I also love Salem's Lot! That's one that I hadn't heard too much about before I read it and I ate it up. They are certainly a talented family!
That was awesome! Thank you so much for sharing. I don't read much, never have. I may give a couple of those a try though.
Thank you!

Thank you for the introduction to McSweenys I have just bought several on amazon and signed up for the club.
Oh awesome! I hope you like them!
Your McSweeney's collection is AMAZING!!

Still counts though because you live in California.
Close enough for me!
Steven King is my favorite author but Tommyknockers, lol, that was the
hardest book to get through. If you can make it through the long drawn
out character introductions you can make it to the end. Let me know what
you think of it. Awesome collection! Was so glad to hear your Dad is

Haha thanks for the warning about the Tommyknockers - I will try!
Happy about your dad news. The best, most perfect King novel is The Stand.
Thank you Millie!
Love The Shining best Stephen King
Christine is my second favorite
Enjoyed your video
Glad your dad is doing better
Thank you Faith!
So glad to hear about your Dad! Did you get a haircut? I really like it!
Thank you Rachel! It might look a little shorter because it's curled a bit :)
my favorite book that i always recommend is "stolen by Lucy Christopher". so if u want try reading that?
I will check it out, thank you!
I loved your book tour. I don't know about you, but I love seeing other peoples book choices as it gives me ideas for my reading list of the future. Did you read Stephen King's The Dark Tower books? Ooh, a readalong! I hadn't considered that!
loved your book tour. I too am an avid book fan. Love Stephen King, Dean Koontz, John Saul, Bentley Little and Joe Hill. Have you read The Box by Joe Hill? I thought it was great and led me to want to collect the rest of his books. Happy Reading
Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill.
I also love the Stephanie Plum mystery series by Janet Evanovich. they are laugh out loud funny
Thank you! I did read Heart Shaped Box but I didn't buy it because it turned out to be my least favourite of his. I've never read any of the Stephanie Plum series!
sooooo ive never finished a stephen king. I should try one again. Which one would you suggest I start with?
I lied. I read The Green Mile.
We have some work to do! I have no idea what to suggest to you. One of those novella books where there's four one hundred page stories in them?
Really enjoyed the vid :) noted down a few books to keep an eye open for, i kinda got stuck in a rut reading the same genre so a step out of that might help with bringing back my book love :) My latest reads were either by Dean Koontz or Robin Hobb :) an edit just to say the book that gave me the most feels, was Flowers in the Attic by Virginia Andrews which i read at about 17, also Moon by James Herbert which really did give me the heebie jeebies!

You should read Christopher Moore! Lamb is my favorite of his!!! If you're not offended easily....
Thank you! He has a bunch of books right? And they have colourful covers? I've never read one but I'd love to try!

Did you know that The Magicians has been made into a TV series? I read the books as they first came out years ago and really enjoyed them as well. www.imdb.com/title/tt4254242/

you have a lot of books. and i don't recognize a single author except maybe Grimms and stephen king. :)
Hee hee! :)
