Yay you going back for more education, have to say the distance learning is so much easier than having to turn up in classrooms and lecture halls. My middle daughter did her bachelors that way since she had a 12 year old and an 8 year old, the job market for her skills had changed radically. 2 months into classes she discovered she was pregnant again and pregnant with twins! She graduated this past spring, the twins just turned 3 she says if she hadn't been able to do on-line classes she never would have been able to finish. Glad to hear your Dad is feeling a bit better, those appointments where you have to come up with a plan and alternatives are the rough ones and I can tell you having family around (especially coming to appts with you) makes all the difference, hoping that he will be seeing some improvement from the chemo hope he knows that every day he gets up and just functions makes him a hero, being emotional at this stage and feeling like crap are par for the course on my worst days I didn't want to see anyone or talk but having my son and daughters and all the grand critters around really did make me stronger and gave me goals I could work for. Please don't feel like you need to respond immediately or update a vlog constantly, just so long as we know you are okay and hanging in, you need you days and you need to be there for your parents so the occasional update would be lovely but we understand your priorities.
So glad you get to go with your parents to the Drs. Meetings it's so good spend that time with them to help it helps I'm sure for them to have you there.lot.Its nice you spend time with your mom watching shows too. I love your black lace ! Beautiful more beautiful than the picture. Hoping for the best for your dad . I love your videos. Good on the education it's always good.
I've never left a comment before, but I've been watching your stitching videos for about six months. You are such a sweet, lovely person. I'm so sorry to hear about your father's illness. That's so hard. Anyway, it may be odd for a stranger to say this, but I'm so proud of you for going back to classes. You're smart and talented. And now is the time. Take it from someone who squandered some big opportunities in her twenties. Good luck! I look forward to hearing about your progress. And if videos are fewer and further between, so be it. Us fans can wait!
I love watching you videos you make me smile. You remind me of my daughter, in a lot of ways. Best of luck with your new career. I hope your dad get gets well soon. Hope to see you soon with your wip updates.
Hey MacKenzie (sp?), I was so happy to see you post your Vlog for July! You are one of my favorite people to watch on youtube, so my vote is for you to keep vlogging no matter how little you stitch during the month. I wouldn't mind hearing about your class as well, I always wondered how those distance learning classes worked. Hope your dad continues to improve!
Great video as always! So nice to hear about your dad feeling better! Positive vibes the scan will be ok and you will have some answers. I went back to college when I was 35 and took medical office assistant (MOA)and loved the transcription and terminology part of it, so once I graduated from that(4.0 gpa!!!) I took an online course from BC to be a medical transcriptionist. Like yours, it was a year long course and I graduated with honours. My thought was that I could work from home and not have to socialize because I get severe anxiety around people. (Major introvert!) I hope you do well with it and enjoy it as much as I did! Hopefully we will still see some stitching and life updates from time to time! Good luck!!
Thank you Tina! I'm just hoping the scan will show something unambiguous so he can make a firm decision about the treatments. I've heard that most transcriptionists can work from home - interesting!
hey McKenzie - enjoyed your July vlog and am glad to hear your dad is feeling better and that you've been able to attend those appts. that makes a big difference, I'm sure. good luck with your course and staying ahead of the modules! Congratulations on making that decision and turning your professional life in a new direction. that's not easy! I, for one, would much prefer a short, disjointed vlog to no vlog, but only if it doesn't stress you out to do them. :) have a wonderful august!
Really behind here, but I want to give you massive props and encouragement on the career change plan! So excited for you. Good luck with the modules. Like you, I think it sounds like alot of fun :) Learning new things is always interesting. Hope your dad continues to get better. Thinking of you! Also, yeah, I got sucked into The Hills back in 2008...
Aw thank you! It's fun but it's getting stressful. I'm putting a lot of pressure on myself in terms of grades and now that it's getting harder I can't maintain my goal which is frustrating/disappointing. I want to change my job so much that I'm worried that if I don't get high honours no one will hire me! I miss your videos. I hope your settled from your move and your grad work is going well!
Aww! How cute is Dexter, great progress on your work. I feel for you I also did 3 in the mornings but beded late felt drained did that for 10 yrs good for you wish you well in your education. And best wishes to your dad poor man being ill is horrid . Happy stitching sweetie xxx hugs to Dexter 😺Xx
Glad you're excited to start more school. Online stuff can be hard to get through. But I totally get your desire to have a more normal schedule. I about fell out of my chair when I looked down and saw you in a WHITE SHIRT. You are pretty in white :) Hope your Dad is doing well and this month is less full of ER visits. Black lace sampler is looking amazing, and so is Death by Cross Stitch. Hope you win that Edgar Allen Poe medal soon. XO Steph
What the heck I have no recollection of wearing a white shirt - what is this nonsense?! Hee hee :D Thank you girl. You truly are one of my favourite people I've met in this community.
{major hugs} Yes, very hard to see our dads being different than we're used to. Waiting...ugh! Do what you need to do for you. Don't worry about us. We want you to be healthy.
Good luck with your new course. Sounds like a good idea and definitely something there's a need for. As a nurse, I know how much good people are needed. You'll do fine with all of the terminology, I think you'll enjoy it. The year will go quickly. The best to your dad. I'm going to check out Yesfit. Already took a look at the web page. I need some motivation as I'm not the most physical person I know, hah. Built for comfort, not for speed, as they say. I hear you on the Macbook Air vs PC. Yuck.
Thank you! I'm hoping there's a little more security for me in this field, it does certainly seem like there's a high demand. Yuck indeed. My refurbished PC is a tragedy but it does the trick for the course ;)
Hey there! Sending good vibes to your dad. BTW I joined yesfit. I -being down right CRAZY - joined the Rio race. Just shy of 83 miles.... Good luck in your coursework! And your race!
After seeing your previous video showing Death by Cross Stitch, I had to go get it, good for you going for Medical Transcription, hugs as always from me to you, your mom and dad, give Dexter a hug too.
Good luck with your courses and career change! I think it will be great for you, getting up at 3 am everyday sounds rough. Death by stitch looks fab! I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Enjoyed your vlog as always. Your course sounds very intersting. I used to be a medical secretary until about 7 years ago when I changed jobs to become a clinical coder. Living Death by Cross Stitch vicariously at the moment as I am on a complete stash ban at the moment. Looking forward to seeing more from you in either vlog form or just general monthly updates (even if there isn't much stitching please let us know how you're getting on).
Thank you Nicola, that is so interesting! Part of the reason I wanted to get into the health region is because there seems to be a little bit of room to move around once I have certain skills, and that seems exciting! My aunt works in the health region and she thought I would be good at medical records once I got in with the transcription. So fingers crossed - and stay strong with that stash ban!
I worked nights for a few years, 7pm to 7am. It was definitely a social disadvantage. I was always opposite of my family and friends schedules. I missed out on so much because I was just too tired to stay awake during the day. I felt better physically and emotionally when I switched to days. I don't think I could ever go back to working nights again.
What a great decision that you decided to get some more education! i LOVE going to school - I would be a professional student if possible. But You are absolutely right about the hours - I used to work 3-11 and you didn't have a social life except for the the people who also worked 3-11. I had to quit that job because I had no life either. You will be so happy that you did this. And since you have the linguistics background the medical terminology part should be easy for you. Totally support you!! But please don't stop the Vlog. Even if the segments are short it's good to hear from you. If you stop vlogging you'll only talk to Tracy and her little clique and the rest of us will never hear from you again! (insert sad face). So please stay in touch thru Flosstube! Even if you aren't stitching! Continued prayers for your dad and mom, and love to you. Take care, sweetie.
I'm happy to hear you had the same experience with the early mornings - that makes me think I'm making the right choice! Thank you! No plans to stop the vlog so far, they just might be a little less footage. And I'm not really a clique-y person, so you don't have to worry about that!
I'm soooooooo behind. McKenzie, you are my spirit animal. Jobs you dreamed of as a child....same. I thought I was so weirdly unique and then you came along, lol!! I also do not like linen (see my latest video) and prefer evenweave. You and your family are in my thoughts often. 💜💜
Excited about your journey with school. I think you'll be much happier with different hours. And excited about Death by Cross Stitch. It's going to be a start for me before the year is up. And your Black Lace Sampler... So pretty. And you and Tracy and Pam are making me motivated to start some physical activity. I've gained so much weight this year. I just feel unhappy with my body. And my husband is losing weight so fast that's not helping my self image either. Sorry about your dad honey. I know this is putting so much stress on you. Don't forget self care. Stress takes a toll on so many parts of your mind and body. Hugs.
I agree, different hours would be much better for me :) What are your plans for Death by Cross Stitch? I know you'll pick something awesome. I'd love it if you'd join the FB group Tracy started - Stitchy Fit? Or maybe you're already on there? Not all of it applies to me (I cannot drink water the way those ladies do - haha!) but I think it will be good. I think you're on vacation right now so have a WONDERFUL vacation!
+thelovelyarray I am on vacation right now. Up in New Jersey. I'm in stitchy fit too but haven't really joined full force with the vacation distraction. Soon though. Soon.
Yay for lazy days! You deserve them! Sending love! Please do vlog, we do care about all the things in your life, not just cross stitch, to be honest. Sending good thoughts to your dad and have fun learing the new job. I am 37 and have changed professions 5 times :)
Good luck with your course, I'm sure you'll do great. I totally get you about the type of environment you need to be in being an introvert. Working from home is great for me with having a child who still wants me around at the moment, but for my mental health I know deep down I'd be better still working outside the home where I had adult interaction on a daily basis. It's too easy for me to hide in my house, far too easy lately.
Lisa, you understand exactly! My brain is starting to entertain the thought of working from home but I know I should NEVER do it. I'd never leave my apartment!
Congratulations on making the decision to go back to school. I often wondered how you would have a social life having to get up so early. I hope your dad is still feeling better the highs and lows of treatment are hard at least you can go to the appointments with your parents. Good luck.
It's true, the answer is I don't really have a social life at the point - which suits me fine because I'm so introverted, but I think I need to break the cycle ;) Thank you Cindy!
Good luck with your online course! I know what you mean about the Chatelaine, I wish I had started mine on evenweave instead of linen. I don't for the life of me know how you manage it in hand. You're amazing.....like, for reals :) I hope things are turning around for your dad. It's so hard being on the side lines watching loved ones go through such a tough battle. I'll keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there
Aw shucks - well if you saw my snail's pace and how frustrated I get with it (the Chatelaine) maybe you would think differently! Haha. And thank you so much for the encouragement about my Dad.
Yes Fit seems awesome! don't know if 25 a race is affordable for me though. I go about 5 miles a day so that would be about a race a week, lol. Maybe I should just buy myself a small treat at the end of the week for doing so many days, though those medals looks awesome. Best wishes to your dad. You're brave to take on Death By Cross Stitch.
I agree, I'm not as good of a runner as you but I think it is overpriced (especially in USD for me). I think I'll just try to find a good online fitness tracker and go from there. Thank you!
Lucky you with the classes. I REALLY wanted to go for Medical Transcription as well. But the course was over $5000 - and since I don't believe in getting loans and such - it's sort of been a case of 'tough luck, then'. :P With no money and no family members willing to help out at all - I'm stuck. So, so much for that. But I thought it might fit me as well. I like the idea of being able to work from home as well. (VERY introverted here. lol Need more social, but it's easier to do social on a voluntary basis rather than work for me. I can't seem to hold a job for some reason. It's possible it is because of the introvert nature. I certainly know I'm doing good work, but that isn't always enough.) Good luck with that. You'll have to keep us updated. Hope your dad starts doing better.
Thank you! Luckily I had some money saved up to do it (mine was just under $4000) - not easy to let go of that money but I'm hoping it will be worth it.
If you wake up at 3am on a consistent basis, I think you're allowed to complain all you want ;) Hearing about your decision to take online classes makes me miss school, because I am a gigantic nerd, but it sounds like a great program! Everyone I know is absolutely in love with Stranger Things! I was thinking about starting it soon as well. I've recently started listening to the podcast Archives 81, it's pretty good so far and has the un-reality, creepy "glitch" feel that I love - you should check it out too! Lots of good creepy podcasts out there, might make the running/ellipticalling more interesting :D
Ooh, I will definitely check that podcast out! I'm almost caught up with Reply All episodes and I like to listen to them while I elliptical so I'll need something new :D Thank you so much!
Low grade overwhelmed...I totally feel you. 😐 It's kind of like all of the things going on in life (the ones we choose willingly and the ones thrust upon us) sap just enough energy to make you feel a healthy amount of blah. I hope your dad starts to make some big strides in feeling better.
good on you for taking the decision to take on a new challenge with the course and a new career. Hope you are enjoying it! And i hope your dad is feeling better! best wishes (astitchtoofar on ig)
Sending prayers your way for your father and your family. I know we have discussed makeup previously, and I was wondering if you do any makeup clubs? My daughter does Ipsy and is thinking about changing to another. Do you do any of the auto makeup clubs? My daughter is even more fair than you are. Sorry my question is not cross stitch related. I really enjoy watching your videos, although I am behind with all of my floss tube watching. I find that my cats hair actually gets stitched into the pattern, and I am ok with that.
Thank you Christine! I don't do any makeup boxes any more ... I used to do Birch Box but I discontinued that quite a while ago. It was mostly just samples and I didn't end up having any use for most of them. And if I remember it was tricky to find one I liked that shipped to Canada and wasn't too expensive. I've heard good things about the Sephora boxes but they don't ship to Canada :(
I have had this thought SO MANY TIMES. And it's not seeming like such a silly idea anymore, truthfully. I just might and then I will be the crazy one .... I just might ...
You'd be surprised by what some people do after a degree. My one friend has an honors masters and she worked at a taco place for ever before getting on with the gov. I have a BA in socio-cultural anth and an un defended ma in medical and and I dye yarn for a living.. Weird jobs out of uni are normal.
Please don't feel like you need to respond immediately or update a vlog constantly, just so long as we know you are okay and hanging in,
you need you days and you need to be there for your parents so the occasional update would be lovely but we understand your priorities.
Oh my gosh, good for your daughter! I can't imagine trying to balance all those things, she must have a great work ethic. Thank you so much :)
So glad you get to go with your parents to the Drs. I love watching you videos you make me smile. You remind me of my daughter, in a lot of ways. Best of luck with your new career. I hope your dad get gets well soon. Hope to see you soon with your wip updates.
Thank you Carol!

Good for you! So you really understand what it's like to work early. 10 years, wow - you must have a great work ethic!
Good luck with your new course, and hope everything's going well for your dad. Death by cross stitch is looking fab!
Thank you!
Prayers to your family and good luck in your class. Thanks for sharing yes fit! I definitely need to check this out
Thank you!
Hee hee :D
Thank you girl. You truly are one of my favourite people I've met in this community.

Awesome that you're doing Death by Cross Stitch too! Any thoughts about what colour/s you'll pick yet?
And thank you for the encouragement :D
Good luck with your courses and career change! I think it will be great for you, getting up at 3 am everyday sounds rough. Death by stitch looks fab! I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Thank you so much!
Enjoyed your vlog as always. Your course sounds very intersting. I used to be a medical secretary until about 7 years ago when I changed jobs to become a clinical coder. It's great that you took the leap to retrain. Hope the course is going well. I did distance learning for a couple of years and loved it.
Thanks! Distance learning is a good fit for me. It's going well so far!
I'm so pleased :)

Thank you Liga! I will! I think that's the new normal now, as opposed to having one single job for 40 years - and maybe for the better!
Good luck with your course, I'm sure you'll do great. I totally get you about the type of environment you need to be in being an introvert.
Yaaay, watch it soon, there's an FSG at the end and lots of HAUL!!!! (Olivia/Oprah voice)
HAAAAAUUUUULLLLLLL!
Hi McKenzie! I hope all is well with your dad. Death by cross stitch looks like a really interesting project to do! ☺️
Thank you Laura!
We started stranger things it's good we are on the 3 rd epi.we heard of it through my son and his wife they binged it.
I'm planning to get into it this week!
Low grade overwhelmed...I totally feel you. 😐 It's kind of like all of the things going on in life (the ones we choose willingly and the ones thrust upon us) sap just enough energy to make you feel a healthy amount of blah. I hope your dad starts to make some big strides in feeling better.
The title of my autobiography ...
McKenzie: Low-Grade Overwhelmed
Haha!
Ooh! I'd read that ;)
good on you for taking the decision to take on a new challenge with the course and a new career. Hope you are enjoying it! And i hope your dad is feeling better! best wishes (astitchtoofar on ig)
Thank you!
Sending hugs, kisses and prayers
Thank you so much Angela!
I've heard good things about the Sephora boxes but they don't ship to Canada :(
I'm probably going to be lynched for this but....you could always get different fabric and start the swans over.
I have had this thought SO MANY TIMES. And it's not seeming like such a silly idea anymore, truthfully. I just might and then I will be the crazy one .... I just might ...
Hi just do what you want to do but love your vlogs
Thank you Lucy!
what about using a white gel pen to trace the backstitch?
YOU CLEVER GIRL
Where were you when I was struggling? lol Thank you!
Hi McKenzie, just wanted to let you know that I sent you a pm. :)
You'd be surprised by what some people do after a degree. My one friend has an honors masters and she worked at a taco place for ever before getting on with the gov. I have a BA in socio-cultural anth and an un defended ma in medical and and I dye yarn for a living.. Weird jobs out of uni are normal.
It never quite works out the way you think it will, does it! Haha :)
