Using "the Battlecry of Freedom" for this is actually such a nice little detail-- the past segment of BTTF III taking place in 1885 would've been just 20 years after the end of the US Civil War-- it is likely that quite a few, if not almost all, middle-aged men living in California at that time would have been Civil War veterans, and thus The Battle Cry of Freedom would be a song they all knew, and may conceivably be a song that would be played at important community events. A small detail missed by 99% of the audience, but a great one nonetheless.
