    very beautiful video. I like your presentations, explanations and results. The combination of video, music, voice and photos makes you want to watch every video until the end, and then suddenly realize that it is already over. I'm looking forward to every new video even if it takes a while now and then. But I prefer to wait a bit, as many videos are produced quickly at the expense of quality. I hope you continue to do so and look forward to the next video.

      Chris Sale an Induro CLT203. It's not huge, but bigger than the Manfrotto BeFree travel tripod I'd been using. I can raise the camera to my eye level if needed (I'm 5' 11"). It has only three leg sections so it doesn't fold quite as compactly as some. However it feels sturdier than a four-section tripod.

    I'm just starting to shoot below 18mm myself, and there's lots of experience to be had for using these wide angles properly. They are excellent for foreground elements. Great shots as always Chris...this was one of your better shoots in a while in my opinion.

    • @ChrisSalePhoto
      @ChrisSalePhoto  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Anton - I hope my use of the wide angle lens will improve over time. Foreground interest is something that I generally try to avoid as I find it can distract from the main subject, it is just part of my personal style I suppose. I see too many landscape images where people have included foregrounds that don't add anything to the shot. You are right as well mate, this was one of my better shoots recently. The winter has been tough, this weekend's forecast doesn't look too promising :(

    • @antont7357
      @antont7357 5 лет назад

      @@ChrisSalePhoto I hear ya man, Winters here in NYC are very demotivating and I am counting the days until Spring. As for Wide Angles, it depends on how wide. 10mm focal lengths do wonders for subjects in the foreground but make your backgrounds 2nd fiddle. In such a beautiful place such as the Lake District, your mountainous terrains could get lost in the frame and I agree that it might not be a good thing.

    • @ChrisSalePhoto
      @ChrisSalePhoto  5 лет назад +1

      Absolutely mate, you've hit the nail on the head there. I think a little later in the year when some of our plants are looking a little more appealing I might have a go at foreground interest coupled with a shallow depth of field.

  • @tammymellertphoto
    @tammymellertphoto 5 лет назад +1

    Awesome images of a gorgeous location.....that fog!! That is one heck of a tripod you got there sir. Very nice indeed! I have two wide angle lenses and I use my 8-18mm a lot but my 7-14mm sits at home. Mostly because my 7-14mm is a pain to fit filters on with the bubbled out front lens and my 8-18mm takes thread on filters easily. Its all about personal preference but I love what you got with the 17-40mm.

    • @ChrisSalePhoto

      It really is a lovely location Tammy, one of my favourites. It is a belter of a tripod, but we'd definitely need to get you a step ladder to go with it. Beautiful location and lovely photography. The great thing about the 17 - 40mm lens is that it is so light that if you carry it up a mountain and don't use it it's no big deal. But I use my wide angle more for coastal photography because wide angle's shrink our small mountains.

    • @ChrisSalePhoto

    My first Canon L lens was the 16-35 f4 which I loved (still love really), super sharp. Then after watching yours and James vlogs in the early stages, decided to add the 70-200 f4 which I really love (probably now my favourite). Late last year, I added the 24-70, and this has now become my workhorse lens also so I'm with you completely with that. I'm now finding that I use my 16-35, less and less but at least I have it for times when I really need to accentuate that foreground interest...anyway lovely video as always mate, see you soon!

      Hi Jamie - lots of people have suggested I look at the 16-35, a subject that I touch on in next week's video. 16-35, 24-70 and 70-200 would be my idea of the perfect line up but if it's going to spend most of it's time in the bag I might as well go for the 17-40 and save myself a little bit of cash.

    Good to see Laurel and Hardy back out together and also good to try new equipment and new ideals. I always said I would never use a GoPro but ended buy buying the new Hero 7 Black and 'shock', I actually love it! I used it on my last video but unfortunately, my PC cannot handle 4K, so having to still film in 1080p but to be fair, that is still excellent, especially on a sunny day on the Northumberland coast. Good work by Wilkinson's of Kendal but bad work from Cannon with your lens. Good to see you again on the mini silver screen Chris. You managed to capture some super reflections in this one. Regards the tripod, what do you think about the weight? My current vlogging setup see's me making do with a gorilla pod, and my main tripod being a Suiri CF is awesome, but is a little short and the default leg angle worries me a little. So I have been considering a Benro for a while. In fact this very model. The benefits gives me a good vlogging tripod with the Suiri and a taller more stable main for the image maker :)

    Canon 16-35mm f4 is by far the sharpest Canon zoom. With little distortion and at f4 making it sharper than a f2.8. And for the money 17 -40mm has a lot of distortion especially in corners but as long as there are no straight lines in the corners it is harder to notice this. But for architecture or straight lines are in your photos get the Canon 16-35mm f4 L you won't be disappointed.

    Hey Chris, I have been using the Canon 17-40 for quite a few years and initially used it a lot of the time. I then realised a 24-70 & 70 - 200 were probably more useful for landscapes. I mostly use the 17-40 when I have a very close foreground and the background is not as interesting. Re your issues with the repair; I had the misfortune of having my older 5Dmk2 and the 70-200 fall off my tripod 2 years ago. I sent them both to CANON Australia (I live in Sydney). they were both back with me as good as new in 3 weeks, they kept me up to date with the progress and quoted the repair cost so I could cover it with my camera insurance company, fantastic service. My daughter had a similar experience and that is the only way I would go for repairs to my CANON gear. Is your lens being repaired by someone other than CANON? PS: lovely images this week!

    Not sure i see the benefit really if it's just the additional wideness from 17-24 over your workhorse lens. Is it that good at those fractionally wider areas to warrant the cost? Seems like if you're only going to use it once a year (or so) then you could just take 2 shots and stitch and save yourself the financial outlay?
    Aside from that, lovely video Chris, very well made. Beautiful shot at 8:10

    • @ChrisSalePhoto
      @ChrisSalePhoto  5 лет назад +1

      You make a good point Jeff and one that I have considered myself. I think the main reason I don't stitch is because of my preference for long exposures; the light can change so fast that trying to match three separate shots taken over a 6-10 minute period is extremely difficult. I have been out shooting again since filming this and I did take 2 other shots at 17mm which I wouldn't have been able to get with the 24-70, which really surprised me. 7mm doesn't sound like a lot to me but it does seem to make a big difference.

    You couldn't have timed this video much better, Chris! I was literally stood in the same place you were a few days ago when one of the leg sections on my baby (cheap) Benro failed... I ended up having to shoot at waist height which wasn't ideal. I've been looking at the Mach 3 series tripods today, particularly the 38 and 48... how are you finding yours in terms of weight?

      Hi Paul. I am loving my new tripod. I have so much more confidence in it. I spend a fair amount of time out of reach of my tripod as I fiddle about filming and it's good to know that I can leave it and it will be safe. Obviously it is pretty heavy, even for a carbon fibre, but I guess that is the trade off.

      @@ChrisSalePhoto Cheers Chris, it always helps to get positive reviews; especially when they cost so much! Will go and have a look at one. Thanks again 👍

      Thank you very much Norbert. Wind has been a big problem for me this year, but perhaps not in the same way as it has been effecting James! :)

      Hi there. In the end I bought the 16-35mm. It was more expensive but sharper and the 17-40mm had a terrible vignette. Hope that helps.

    What a great video Chris. Love the music also. And your photos are without a doubt absolutely amazing.
    Will you be taking that tripod up more mountains with your other partners in crime, Julian and Gareth? It must be really heavy?
    I also had a problem with wind, the doctor gave me a kite. Boom Boom. Sorry. Someone had to eh?
    All the best,
    Tony

      Love that gag Tony, brilliant! Seeing Jules and Gareth at the Photography Show in a couple of weeks. No doubt we'll arrange something for later in the year. Will you be at the Photography Show this year?

    Dam right mate, embrace the wide angle!! lol You know it makes sense. What great light at an amazing location. Isn't it great when you luck out like that - and great to see you made the most of it with those shots as well. (I'd like to say that I'm sorry about the English rugby result, but I can't lol!)

      Cheers Jules - still not entirely sold on the whole wide angle thing but willing to give it a go while the 24-70 is (still) out of action. Can you believe it was the beginning of December when I sent it off? This is starting to get ridiculous. It's a great location and one that you don't see very often on RUclips for some reason, most people preferring to stop just up the road at Rydal Water.

      I was so tempted to mention the rugby but bit my tongue (whilst I sniggered, lol) See you on the 17th if my brain kicks in :)

      I was not a happy bunny that afternoon. Don't mind loosing but we didn't even show up in the second half, very disappointing. England are plating Scotland on the Saturday of the Photography Show but I have lost interest in the rugby all of a sudden!

      Is it Canon or a 3rd party doing the repair? Either way, yeah, taking far too long mate!
