This is a program that aired right before the last episode of Cheers on May 20th, 1993. It was hosted by Bob Costas and showed highlights from the show's eleven season run.
I love both Diane and Rebecca but for my money I can relate to and laugh at Rebecca far more. Also loved how unlike Sam and Diane, Sam and Rebecca's relationship was allowed to grow and evolve into a much deeper and rich friendship. All the characters on Cheers were people we all knew in real life whether it was our own neighborhood bars or any workplace.
I don't know if anyone remembers the fight between Diane and Sam where they slap each other, but there is an intensity and anger in the exchange that makes me think there was something more to it than just method acting.
There have been rumors that Shelley Long was at times impossible to work with. I think I heard that her only friend on the set was Nicholas Colasanto, who played "Coach" Ernie Pantusso the first three years of the series. When he died in Season Three, Long seemed to have taken the loss the hardest. When she left at the end of the fifth season, almost everyone in the cast was glad to see her go.
@@pietjebel9130 It was a product of its time. It almost never got a second season because the ratings were so horrible. If it wasn't for NBC being such a weak network at the time and someone like Brandon Tartikoff being in charge, who was looking for quality in their programming Cheers, and especially Hill Street Blues, never would have made it past their first seasons.
To each their own. The first couple seasons were more or less focused on the relationship between Sam and Diane. Season Three brought in a love triangle with the addition of Frasier Crane. It wasn't until Season Six, with the departure of Shelley Long and the addition of Kirstie Alley where the show truly became an ensemble rather than just focused on two, maybe three characters. Of course, the last couple seasons the show became more slapstick driven in the comedy rather than dialogue driven. Every season had its strengths but they also had their weaknesses

Diane was so annoying. I liked Rebecca way better.
