At 16 years of age I knocked on that door one late afternoon and told Gertrude Ryder Bennett and her husband that I was very interested in the Dutch history of Brooklyn. They welcomed me in, gave me a thorough tour and sat me down for some tea and conversation. I was thrilled and they were shocked I think, that a teenager had any interest. A few months later my genealogist father discovered that we were distant relations of the Ryder-Bennetts. They soon invited me and my parents over for a visit. What an awesome house.

Ira, from Brooklyn: "It really is like having your own private park."
Me, from the Midwest: "You mean a yard?" XD

Centuries before this home, I can just imagine how truly beautiful the East coast was before the European arrival. My Ojibway ancestors originated from the Lenni Lenape tribe from the NY area.

Brooklyn was the first battle after independence was declared but the first battle of the war was Battle of Bunker Hill. That being said, absolutely lovely house lol
