From the beginning of time, probably playing high notes with ease and accuracy has been the number one topic. In particular, your explanation of tongue arch is clear and valuable. This of course was one of the "secrets" that Herbert L. Clarke revealed later in is life. It is explained in detail with graphic in the book 27 Groups of Exercises by Earl D. Irons. Thank you for your presentation.
This video REALLY helped me out. I just got the trumpet yesterday. Barely able to get a low C. Now Im able to get low C and D and its because my air wasnt fast enough. I thought it was a problem with my embouchure or my tongue, but they were both in place. I noticed theres a difference between fast air and loud noise. Im a tenor sax player and this is a whole different world.
As a band teacher and trumpet player, I am glad I stumbled onto your site. Your lessons are excellent. They are fast paced and to the point with activities that reinforce your points for my students to do along with you and incorporate into their daily routine. Congratulations. You are doing an excellent job. And Thank-you sir!
This video helped me more than my professors in brass techniques. As a percussionist, I didn't have a very good embouchure when I took brass techniques in college, but this video saved me from bad grades on my performance tests. Another future music teacher is on the way to graduation thanks to this video.
my goodness, you are truly a gift. I'm a trumpet player and a high school band director, every time I run out of ways to explain something I look to you, and with consistency, it gets through to them. Thank you!!!
As a trombone player I'll say this is one of the best instructional musicians on RUclips of ANY instrument. He doesn't fish for income by begging for likes and subscribers and in fact encourages to dislike if the video wasn't insightful or helpful. Not to mention his examples and demonstrations are really easy to undertand and he doesn't get too fat into detail making it hard to comprehend. He's definitely contributed to my trumpet playing and even my musicianship as a whole.
i remember watching this video around 5 ish years ago when i couldnt even reach a middle C. it helped a lot and i still often think about the things that were said in this video. i can now reach a double g (not consistently though). this video is very helpful
I used to play the trumpet back when I was still in school (more than 12 years ago) recently I decided to pick it up again. I went from playing clarinet, back in the day. I learned to play some but I was never really good at it. Picking it up again I realized I was still not very good at it lol and struggled greatly with some higher notes. I have to say just watching this video has really helped to broaden my range (which wasnt much to begin with) thank you for the tutorial and explaining it in such an easy way to understand. I must of looked at a dozen of other websites trying to learn the technique to this and yours is the one the really helped!
I playing trumpet because my teacher doesnt have alot of students in band this year. As a middle school flute player to a junior color guard member(without playing music for 3 years) your videos helped me so much to transition to playing this beautiful brass instrument! Thank you!!
Okay, Aaron, I'm a believer and a fan of yours now! Love your teaching style: it's down to earth, efficient, and effective! I have gotten further in 30 minutes of learning from you than an entire week beforehand! :)
This helped me so so much! Like 15 minutes ago I could only play a high d. and now I can do the Eb scale almost perfectly! I extended my range two more notes! And I have braces. You are amazing. Thank you!!!
Great Video! The hardest thing sometimes is getting beginning band players to play the note G. They just play way down below C and do not know how to raise their pitch. This video gives great insight to that issue and presents it in a way that beginning players can understand.
This was very helpful. Got my trumpet yesterday and have been trying to teach myself how to play the C major scale before my lessons start. I couldn’t get A, B, or high C until now. Thank you!
thanks for the video. I played trumpet [not very well] 50 years ago, and decided I wanted to play the trumpet solo to "String of Pearls" before I die. Figured I better get to it! Have to start over as a beginner. Haven't found a teacher yet but this is helping me with the slur from A to C that drives me crazy!
Been wanting to get back into trumpet. Always struggled with range over high E above the staff. Hoping I can surpass my previous range and learn to play more difficult tunes.
@@TheBlackTrumpeter At the moment I can comfortably max out at about a C above the staff as I've only just been getting going again (im 23 and been out of the game for almost 3 years), in my high school years I was hitting E's consistently but I feel as though I never fully mastered the tongue arch. This video is very helpful in helping me reinforce the tools needed to get me to my goals so thank you for this! I'm going to keep at it. I always found the tongue arch difficult to fully maintain with proper embouchure for some reason.
Nice! When you get back into consistent practice again, you should be back up there again.
