Hi Mr. Beat, I'am a Christian in the largest Muslims country in the world (Indonesia). Since I was a kid, my parents never told me any scary stories to behave for Christmas, nor any fairy stories like Santa that will give you presents for Christmas. We just go to church in Christmas Eve and Christmas day. The unique (horror) part, if you go to any church in Indonesia during Christmas Eve and Christmas day, you will see so many polices standing and guarding the Church: at front gate, at side gate, at back gate, front door of church, even inside the church. (Those police just looking if there is any mysterious guest who enter the church, carrying backpack or wired vest, then hit trigger or button). Yeah, that's normal for us. After church our family will gather in our house, do prays together, then having good dinner, and shares a lot of cheerful moments during Holiday. Merry Christmas to all of you! Happy Holliday! God bless you and family. 🙏🏻
my mom always thought that the "lead your child to believe something, and then reveal it was a lie and except them to be okay with it" aspect of Santa Claus was messed up. she didn't outright tell us that Santa wasn't real, but she did tell us that the "character" of Santa was based on "an ancient Greek bishop who was very nice and loved children". I was able to put two and two together pretty easily, but it took my sisters a little longer to figure it out
I don’t know, I never felt slighted or lied to because Santa wasn’t real. If someone is mad out being lied to about Santa then they are just as immature as a child!!
The "ancient greek bishop" was Bishop Nicholas (St Nick) of Turkey, a Christian scholar that advocated for the Trinity interpretation of the Gospels vs Bishop Arias idea that Jesus was not divinity but a creation of God. Nicholas feast day is Dec 6 (or 5th) and that was the original child gifting commemoration by parents or town leaders. Part of the reformation was to eliminate the various saints feast days as saints were restored to just being historic patriarchs or historic legend. Many protestant groups kept only Christmas, Good Friday and Pasternis/Easter. So the feast days of Saint Nicholas, Saint Stephen and Christmas practices began to merge in Germany, Holland, Denmark, England/Scotland. Since by 1850 they had emerged as the most influential secular societies in the world, even surpassing Rome and Peking...the condensation stuck. Department stores and mass media cemented it.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Mr. Beat. Thank you for the in-depth video on the history of Christmas origins. And yes this is better than any PragerU video.
I like to think Matt tried really hard before realizing he can't chromakey his shot in front of the green screen because he's wearing a green sweater and just thought "AHH, SCREW IT!"
Colossians 2:8 "Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ." Christmas was a tradition started by man therefore, we as Christians, should not celebrate it because that is how it is written in scripture.

Speaking of PragerU, Mr. Beat, I know you have a (reasonably) strong dislike of PragerU, but what do you think about their left-wing rival, the Gravel Institute?
Yea, I don’t want Crampus to come
Me neither
You can lock your doors but hate to break it to you Mr Beat that's not his favorite way of breaking in
In conclusion lock your chimney
@@comradestalin1109 Will do. This is good advice, Stalin.
Award-winning podcasts you say??

HAHAHAHA... Even though I am well aware of the Japanese's relatively new-ish tradition of buying KFC for a Christmas meal (also a holiday cake), I swear, I almost expected you to say that Colonel Sanders came and gave them presents... which really wouldn't be too great of a push if the marketing was done correctly. I think a "Colonel Sanders Clause" would be a welcome addition to the world. Bringing his presents of 11 herbs and spices for all the good children everywhere.
