    Thanks so much for this.
    I got my 12 year old a jewellery making kit and we looked up bracelet making only to find every video mentioning crimps, of which there are none in her set! I typed in how to make a bracelet without crimps and landed here. Brilliant. Improvising with what did come in the kit and using a darning needle to wrap the wire we managed to create a somewhat roomy crimp which none-the-less solved her problem so that she can attach the clasp (once crimp is flattened with the pliers!) 😂
    A very happy 12 year old now has her first homemade piece of jewellery.
    Thanks again 🙏🏼

    Hi Heather, such a helpful tutorial. You have saved me from a headache. I want to buy crimp tubes, but then which size? Every handmade project is different, so not always the same sized crimp tube will match.
    I'm a bit confused about your pinned comment. You say that these may not be strong enough for heavy-weight necklaces and to check out for actual crimps.
    Could you please explain? Can I use stainless steel or sterling silver wire, and would you recommend 18/20 gauge, strong enough to hold any necklace?
    Thanks a lot for your time and help.

    • @HeatherBoydWire
      @HeatherBoydWire  Год назад

      Thanks Anita. The DIY crimps are still a bit experimental. You can test them on the materials you have. Regular crimps do a kind of "double crimp" where you squeeze them then fold them over and squeeze them again. This makes extra resistance on the cord.

    • @HeatherBoydWire
      @HeatherBoydWire  2 года назад

      These aren't real crimps so I just used flat nose (chain nose) pliers. These work for lightweight necklaces but the ideal is to get real crimps and a crimping tool: amzn.to/3oGt9S3 and crimps: amzn.to/3pL7B5r

  • @VP-kr2vd
    @VP-kr2vd 3 года назад

    Crimps are not expensive to buy unless of course you buy branded which is always costly but this is a great way if you need a bigger sized crimp. I use the tiniest crimps that will fit my wire because i want them unseen.

      Thanks for your special request. I have a couple designs for dragonflies that could be used as pendants on necklaces: ruclips.net/video/dg8tktQ-Zm8/видео.html and this one that you can make, but don't omit ring part that goes around the ear: ruclips.net/video/RWUj9fR1bJ4/видео.html

      I'm sorry but crimp covers are made of cast metal. You could try to cover them with a bead that had a large hole. Good luck!

    If y’all don’t have 20 gage wire you could also use a thicker needle

      Hi Andrea: Thanks for your message. I do the livestreams on Wednesday nights at 9pm EST (Montreal time). I usually post in my Community feed when there is a time change. Saturday's videos are not live and are usually published mid-day. THANK YOU!
