    Don’t forget to keep in mind when you raise the forks in the triple clamps you are changing the rake angle. That will make the bike quicker to turn but less stable at higher speed.

    • @Robocoppat
      @Robocoppat 6 месяцев назад

      What higher speeds are you talking about?. Reason why I ask is I have a 2021 mt07 and I cannot sit flat footed on it. I thought about putting lifts in my boots. I bought a rear lowering link. I don't stunt, no wheelies, no off ròad, I just want to cruise. I'm brand new to riding and I don't know what to do. All I know is I would feel more confident if both of my feet were flat when stopped on my bike. Ride Safe my friend.

    Hi, ‘Enjoyed your Vids on lowering mods to the WR250r. Good narrative on what you’re doing and why, along with better camera work/editing than we see in many RUclips videos.
    When I got my WR250r I had the dealer install the lowering link and lower the forks. I switched out the stock seat for the lower Seat Concepts seat. However, the bike is still taller than I’m comfortable riding. In addition to having really short legs (26.5” inseam on a good day) I’m also a cubby old geezer, somewhat out of shape, with all the stiffness and decreased agility that brings. I talked to a Yamaha Rep at the Chicago bike show who suggested having a dealer or suspension shop cut the front fork tubes and springs which could get up to about 4” additional lowering (not counting the lowered seat). I’m looking in to getting that done, but also open to any other reasonable suggestion. And before anyone gets started, I’m not going to give the bike to my 30 year old son, buy a scooter, or whatever…

      We are about the same size, (I am just a touch taller), and rode and raced MX for decades on 250cc MX bikes. After 18 years of not riding, (last bike was a 97 KX250), I just picked up a 2019 YZ250. The bikes got taller, (following the 4-strokes, which had to be taller), and am lowering it now, with a variety of mods that will only lose about 1" of ground clearance, and still be able to hammer the most whooped out trails in Michigan. 1st, I need stiffer springs because I weigh more now. The proper rear spring will lower my free sag 15mm, (to achieve the proper 30mm of free sag). I bought the pro circuit link which is 1.5mm longer than stock, and will lower the rear end by about 6mm. I am shortening the shock top out to lose .900" of travel, and the forks to lose .750" of travel. I am having my sub-frame modified so it is adjustable, ("PR2 racing" in PA. has done the internal fork/shock work, added the correct springs and modified the sub-frame), and I am lowering the seat by 1" ("JB Sport Trim" in Gowen MI.).
      Why are the 2-strokes so tall today? My guess it is because of the younger generations now employed with the magazines have complained too much about "The chassis need to be updated", and the factories left made them 4-stroke tall. Good for the after market, but a good thing I bought the less expensive Yamaha over the too tall super expensive Husky/KTM. Getting old here. I bought my first YZ (a new YZ100) 42 years ago. :)

    Wait...so the Yamalink only lowers the bike by about 0.7", but if you just do the "stock lowering" (that you referred to in this video), it would lower it by 0.5"?? That means the Yamalink is only giving you an extra 0.2" to what you could do without it.

    Good video interesting. Does 1.50” rider sag mean the spring rate is on the soft side?

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 2 года назад +1

      He does not know what he is doing. First, you set your rider sag, (you on the bike in your riding position, that number subtracted from the measurement with the bike on a stand, with the wheel off the ground, (full extension). You set your rider sag to about 33% of the total wheel travel, (12 travel, 4" of rider sag approx.).
      Then, to tell if the spring is too stiff or too light, you take that same measurement with the wheel off the ground, and subtract the height with the bike only on the ground. You should have about 20-25mm of compression with just the bike weight. I was measuring 13mm on mine, so I had to go to a stiffer spring. (stiffer spring for more static sag, just the bike weight, sounds backwards, but it is not).
      This is correct information, industry standard.

    FYI..... 20mm is approx. 1/2 inch. There are other lowering links that will lower 2 inches or slightly more, one even being adjustable if you aren't sure how low you want it to go. Keep in mind you will also lower your ground clearance as well. Your suspension travel will also be affected..

    • @ngzcaz

    • @EarthSurferUSA

      12.7mm is 1/2". If you make the bike lower with a suspension pull link, if the rear suspension bottoms out, your wheel will try to go into your fender by how ever much it was lowered. The Link does not shorten the travel, it just shirts it into your fender.

    • @EarthSurferUSA

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA 2 года назад

      Unless you have that cool tool "MoTool Slacker", it is almost impossible to get an accurate sag setting by your self with out somebody helping you.
      This guy did it wrong from the beginning. The measurement with the bike on the kickstand means nothing. The wheel needed to be off the ground for that measurement.
      If you want your bike to handle the best it can, lowering the suspension is a lot trickier than anybody I have seen on YT doing it understands.

  • @EarthSurferUSA
    @EarthSurferUSA 2 года назад

    I don't like the lowering links because they do not reduce the top out travel, but shifts the travel up. So if you lowered it by .5 inches with a longer pull link, the tire when bottoming out will try to go .5 inches into the bottom of your fender.
    By the way, that is no way to measure your sag. No shortage of improper practice on YT.

      I wanted a 250cc MX 2-stroke, and only Yamaha is affordable,--but they are all probably too tall for anybody under 5'10". I fixed mine correctly, and I dropped the lowering link because what ever you lower it, that is the distance that the wheel tries to go into your rear fender if you bottom out, (this guy does not ride well enough to know he screwed it up, and I know it).

    i don't get the point- so what effort did you made lowering 1,5 inch? - in my understanding, thats nothing- you can't even put your feet lully on the ground?? and by doing this you destroy bikes geometry

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA Год назад +1

      I lowered my YZ250 2-stroke 1.75 inches total, (1" in the seat, and .75" off the suspension rear and front), and it it probably just a tad lower than my lowest 250MX bike in the past, (still with 12" of suspension travel). Believe me, I can touch the ground now (I am 5'9" tall), and it handles better than any stock modern MX bike made today.
      Ricky Carmichael had his bike real low, and won 15 championships. Husky makes a 1" lower bike now (added to their line up), and MXA said they like it better,---but they don't know why. Of course they do. You don't need a berm to turn it. These tall bikes today are just irrational. Tall bikes do not run as well, and that is a matter of physics.
      For better performance though, you do need to do it right. I don't like "lowering links" They actually shift the travel up into your rear fender, and not actually reduce the amount of travel, (which you want to do as little as possible).
