Hi Abi , I am soooooo grateful to have found your video! After fiddling for a few days and many unnecessarily long videos, I found your precise and clear guidance. Thanks a million for your kind sharing!
Thankyou very much, i had stripped and rebuilt my wife's Brother machine and we were on the point of binning it. Watched your video on the positioning of the needle to pick up and it really did work and the machine is now perfect again! In my case i had to reposition the gear cam on the rear to better align the front start position but the same impact. Ever so glad you did this video.
Thanks very very very much, I watched this video just 11th December 2021, and I was able to repair my Brother riviera 110 sewing machine. Yahweh bless you
Thank you. Appreciate the closeup details. I've done one machine, a 1970's Singer 457, with much trial and error. Have a 1916 (if memory serves) Singer 66 (red-eye). Been putting off adjusting the timing. (It won't pick up the bobbin thread). While this machine differs greatly from the one you demonstrated, the concept is basically the same - the relationship between the hook and needle eye in their travels. FWIW, more encouraged, now, due to your video to work on that machine. Again, thank you.
Watched your video today in order to try and fix my mum's machine that has been missing stitches. The repair shop wanted £50 just to look at it. With your help we now have a fully working machine. Thanks you so much for the fab and easy to follow video :)

Hi Abi, thanks for all the information. I have learned a lot watching your videos. Unfortunately I am still having skipped stitches. Please help. thanks.
Hello Abi, I too, would like to take advantage of your knowledge and generous nature 😊 . It looks like my machines problem is indeed the timing but I am not sure as it skips stitches on an overlock stitch ( more specifically it doesn't grab the thread when the needle moves to the left to create the blanket stitch effect) but it's not skipping on the straight stitch.. If that makes any sense. It's really baffling ...I would love a suggestion of yours. Thank you very much for the great video.
@@AbisDen wow that was a fast response 😊 thank you so much. I just did a check ona straight stitch positioning the needle on the left and it has indeed skipped stitches. I better start working on it according to your video. Eternally grateful.

Hazel Blair hmm, I wouldn’t say it was ideal, but it’s common sense, can you use it safely? I’m worried why it’s not secure, what else is not held securely that may cause the needle to crash into the foot, causing flying debris. In which case, I wouldn’t recommend using it but only you know how securely it’s sat, even a shift of 1mm could be a safety problem. Sorry 😐 x
When I go to push the hook back, the needle also moves but I did loosen both screws why is it doing this ? If the needle is also moving then I’m not actually adjusting anything , help!
BabyBlues 79 great question! Pulling fabric through the machine faster than feed dogs allow is mainly the cause. Sometimes, for example, the fabric is too thick, too bulky or heavy for the feed dogs to feed the fabric through easily so we might be tempted to “help” the machine by pulling the fabric through. Pulling fabric may cause dragging the feed dogs along. They get yanked out of sync with the cogs underneath. That’s mainly it. I can demonstrate that in another video.
Abi's Den that’s happened to me and I then bought another sewing machine. 😮 But I kept the old pfaff tiptronic as I loved it. I was making blinds and struggling to get the fabric through so pulled it over the bulky seam. So is there anything I do in addition to checking the timing of rotary hook and needle?
I have a computer machine Nechi 681c and it’s slowly got worse on pattern stitches not feeding through and it just goes over and over and keeps bunching, also not stitching it right for example the Koala with leaf just bunches into a muddle mess, the fish not looking like a fish, hope this makes sense and is there any tips if I can fix this myself? or do I go for a new machine and bin this, I would rather see it fixed if I can.
No. Don’t bin the machine it needs a service. There are a few things that could be possibly wrong with the machine, feed dogs, tension... It needs an expert eye to look over it.
Thank you, I’m all for mending if you can, I tried so many times reading forums and found nothing to help then blow me down just before purchasing another machine I find your vid, I’m literally just playing with timing now, so easy to access so fingers crossed I’m watching your vid again and will let you know if I’m successful, if not I will call an engineer and get it serviced. Well, I apologize for bothering you with this "problem". I am completely embarrassed! It was only a case of me being "stunada" (as we say in Italian LOL) and being a dummy. When this problem cropped up, I had been working on this machine for around 8 hours already and it was like 6 AM in the morning. I should have quit and checked everything again today. So I looked at my threading and thought it looked kinda odd - So I got up a looked at his threading, then looked and mine, and like a JERK I realized I had missed the last thread notch AT the needle! What is amazing is that the machine actually stitched a little like this so it was driving me nuts. And what is even MORE amazing is that when I was doing this at home and switched back to the original round needle I somehow managed to thread it properly LOL!!! Talk about Murphy's Law? So now I know the reason - it was ME. So I again APOLOGIZE for being a goofball and all I can say is "mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa"! Well, at least I know the machine is perfect now because I checked everything including the timing and of course found it all to be perfect. UGH!
I think it’s a case of not knowing - I say to everyone - use all of the guides on the thread map. If any are missed, they will affect the sewing as you’ve discovered. You’ve just learned how Important it is to use all of the guides. Awesome
But we are all guilty of that at times, aren’t we. It’s good job you have a friend who could help. I love the featherweights. I have a 222k too. They’re beautiful machines.

It’s difficult to explain without pictures. I’ll see if I can demonstrate this for You on a similar machine- I thinks it’s the same model as yours actually.
What could it be if the needle and hook are in different positions every time you turn the wheel? I tried to follow this guide, but one turn it looks fine, then on the next turn it looks like it misses again... This is really stressing me out, i'm on the verge of just binning it :(.
Ahh, then there’s something slipping, it’s not just the timing. Check these things first: Have you made sure the machine is set to a straight stitch? Are you turning a full rotation on the handwheel?
@@AbisDen Thanks for the reply :) and yes to both of those questions. I think the difference in position might have been the play between the driver and hook. I have tried it again today and it looks like it should be stitching fine and I just can't get my head around why it isn't. I tried lowering the needle a little and that made no difference. I bought the machine from ebay for £50, so there is no point taking it to a repair shop. I might just buy another and hope that works and use this one for spares. One annoying thing is that the seller said it looks like the machine hasn't ever been used, but there is a council electrical safety sticker on the pedal and a repair shop sticker on the machine, so it looks like it was used in a business and has been repaired at some point.
My 221 Featherweight stitches PERFECTLY with a round needle, but needles that have a "cutout" (scarf) will just about not stitch at all. Timing, needle height, and everything is perfect - and remember - it DOES STITCH PERFECTLY with a ROUND needle. What gives???
I wish I didn’t even try this. Instead of a sewing machine that skipped a stitch on a zig zag, my machine now wont work at all. I now have to pay $$$ to have it fixed professionally. Don’t try it. I wish I didn’t.
It does need finesse and an understanding but I think the very fact that you have it a go means your machine would have needed that attention anyway so you haven’t lost anything from trying. Well done for having a go.

One annoying thing is that the seller said it looks like the machine hasn't ever been used, but there is a council electrical safety sticker on the pedal and a repair shop sticker on the machine, so it looks like it was used in a business and has been repaired at some point.
Thank you mam I am a Indian girl
How would i do this on the LS14 brother machine my timing has definitely gone
Ohno. I’ve not made an LS14 video on timing I’m afraid but it’s similar to this
Thanks thanks thanks

MERI machine me zigzag Nahi araha kaise theek kare
My 221 Featherweight stitches PERFECTLY with a round needle, but needles that have a "cutout" (scarf) will just about not stitch at all. Timing, needle height, and everything is perfect - and remember - it DOES STITCH PERFECTLY with a ROUND needle. What gives???
I did not understand why he sewed the machine
I wish I didn’t even try this. Instead of a sewing machine that skipped a stitch on a zig zag, my machine now wont work at all. I now have to pay $$$ to have it fixed professionally. Don’t try it. I wish I didn’t.
It does need finesse and an understanding but I think the very fact that you have it a go means your machine would have needed that attention anyway so you haven’t lost anything from trying. Well done for having a go.
