- We’ve got fruit and vegetables rationing here in the U.K. that is apparently going to last for weeks !
I did get some bargains and great deals this week
I found myself getting quite wound up over the past week… thank goodness for my Sunday videos, to be out in nature, I can feel myself starting to relax as soon as I open the door and step outside.

I’ve never been asked about money going in or out of our accounts at the bank but we are farmers so our turnover and expenditure is in 500k plus but once was asked when I was in my early 30’s about a mortgage and explained I didn’t want or need one . Was then asked if I was a renter? The shock on her face when I told her No ! We own outright our farm ! Was one of those moments when you feel like saying stuff you !!!!
Ps we have a pig farm , and our pigs eventually go to M&S #buybritish !! X
That’s good to know you supply M& S …good quality food 👍
I am so glad you complained! I would be tempted to switch banks. How dare they! 🤬
I have switched 👍
Thank you for the tip about drying out the carrots, mine normally end up going slimy in the fridge if I don't use them fast enough but since I have dried them out before storing this hasn't happened!
Great. Take care 👍🌼
The banks are asking these questions as a precursor to the introduction of digital currency.
Makes you wonder
I'm not feeling great today but if I'm OK later I might pop to the market & see if the fruit & veg stalls are affected. 🤔
Hope you feel better soon 👍
Hello Jill, we have also been asked about money at the bank. We tend to only keep a bare minimum in our account ( have done for many years now), our savings now stay with us. We wanted to buy a solar charging unit last month for our electric car on the internet so we had to put money into our account to cover it. The amount was £500, they asked us where the money had came from, we said " It came from our account what we had drawn out in the past as we no longer trust you to look after it, the money came from here at your bank ! " they accepted this true answer ! ha ha. Why do you need that money ? the simple answer is " i like to spend it on things for living, its how the system works that the governments created, did they not teach you that in your bank ! " . I'm sure true freedom can now only be found by living in a very remote spot entirely of the land, almost like an amazon jungle tribe ! Control only works when you rely on them to live ! Good luck Jill, keep safe and well. Thanks for the video.
I always complain if I get poor service, you have the right strategy Gary …escape the matrix. Wherever we can. Take care, get out and enjoy the sunshine
👍👍 Just come back from Tesco , the fresh veg section in Martlesham, Suffolk is also looking sparse ! no peppers, toms or cucumbers, have a great weekend.
Silly question anyway - what do they think, that you’re going to gaily respond “oh THAT! It’s my drug dealing / bank robbing / fraud money”???
@@frugalitystartsathome4889 😂
@@frugalitystartsathome4889 ha ha yes your so right, a true money launderer will never give the truth anyway, but im finding it very strange why they have started to ask for such small amounts, in the old days money was a very private thing , keep safe and well.
Hi Jill, I am a new comer to your channel, which I must say I am obsessed with, you are my kind of person.. in the summer, I went to draw a ( what the cashier consider a large amount of money) out of MY bank account, and she ask me the same questions! I just laughed at her, she ask me if anyone was making me do it!! I said "yes the bloody government " she said "I'm sorry, but I have to ask these questions " I now take all my money out and just leave in the DD money. I determined to pay cash for what ever I need. I must say I think I will come and live in your neck of the woods, because I have never found bargains like you, although I do get some in charity shops. Just to add, today I made my very 1st Rosehip cordial and its so tasty, look from them when you are foraging. X
Hello Kim and welcome. Only last week I was asked about banking online, I said it’s important to keep as many branches open as possible, but my words fell on deaf ears. Hope you find some deals. Take care 🙋♀️💐
Sorry you're going through shortages ... none here across the pond but meat prices are still high . We all seem to be losing some of our normal abilities ... I do a daily rant just listening to the daily news LOL ! Take care ... we're all in this together !
Yes we are all in this together, I skim the headlines
My bank informed me that I no longer have enough income for the account, but I could now pay a fee if I wanted to keep the account. Yes, I agree, out for a walk while it’s still can. Enjoy a stress free weekend.
Thank you Pam. The sun is out here , always lifts my spirits
Some banks do have amount limits a few years back when a local bank sold out to a different chain they had a 350 balance limit if you fell below that you got charged so much a month my mom just changed Banks
😮
🍅🍅🍅
Lots of wild garlic starting to show now it’s spring . It doesn’t pay to be a loyal customer- split any savings between banks
Yes I agree 👍
It’s shocking isn’t it! I use grated carrots, grated beetroot and pop some lemon juice over, (you can use a supermarket version of jif) makes a lovely salad. Thinking about micro greens now, need to re watch some of your vlogs 😉
I’ve been out foraging Hev, have a a great weekend
Your shortages are far worse than ours. I'm so sorry.
And I'm shocked at your bank teller asking you what you want YOUR money for.
We are fighting against Socialism in this country, but there are so many young people who thing it would be great. Sad
You are standing up for yourself and I hope more of your countrymen do.
Take care, Jill.💓
❤️Peggy ❤️
Yes if I’m not happy with the service I complain 👍have a relaxing weekend Peggy
I'm always curious as to how people define socialism especially in the USA. I used to teach politics back in the day. Hence my interest.
@Angela E Hi Angela, I think the definition is that the production, collection and distribution is done by all and shared by all. But the application is different from country to country, in my opinion. The UK already has leaned closer with social programs and health care than we are, presently, in the US.
I'm not a Poly-Sci teacher or major, but I do see the signs. Again, this is my opinion. You are certainly free to share yours and I will respect it 💓
I can’t believe the bank asked you those questions with regards to your money! Absolutely shocking!
I’ve just returned from a short break in Ireland and there are no shortages there… 🧐 Take care! ✨
Ireland is a place I’d love to visit
When we sold our house we found out that you can't just move your own money around. Very stressful on what is already a stressful day.
I was at M&S yesterday to stock up on chicken legs, eggs, butter and their minced beef. I like that it is higher welfare too!
I was pleasantly surprised at the prices Denise
We have two acres of which one is used to grow food. Parts of this area look as if we've been through a Siberian winter. If the stuff isn't there then retail outlets can't buy it or won't if prices are too high. I think we've got too used to expecting or even demanding what we want when we want it. I understand the frustration but rationing during the war years went on long after the war had finished. I'm following ww2 ration book recipes and getting creative with substitutes. It's fun for a short time and it makes me appreciate what long term rationing must have been like for families especially. I won't comment 9n the banking issue except to say how you spend your money is nowt to do with anyone. I get bombarded with offers of loans and credits cards instead. No ta very much. Stay calm and take care x
Yes and I think there may be more to come we’ve not had much rain this winter
@@BeFree-BeFrugal agreed x
Wow, considering the rationing has started in the UK stores, I'm surprised you were able to find anything on clearance, much less all that you did, great job for persevering through three stores!
Thank you
Just seen this morning - I allegedly says banks in America are limiting withdrawals due to lack of liquidity 😮 Might be the start of something over here? Just praying it’s not but also praying we can get to the end of March when we pay off our mortgage 🤞
Well done with paying off your mortgage 💪💪💪
I noticed today with the cucumbers , that they was 3 max , but silly really if you have more than two adults in a property who can shop at different times & get the amount you require . I use the Ends for my Face Toner , they don’t go to waste then 😊
Yes or pop the ends in smoothie 🤔
@@BeFree-BeFrugal If that’s what you fancy 😋
Friends in London say the smaller local shops still have fruits and veg…..
Yes it’s worth checking them out
If my bank here in Ireland questioned me about MY money, I'd tell them to ☆¤•#☆¿ off.
😂💪💪💪
The bank staff just act like robots, they've been "programned" to ask these questions and believe that it's to prevent fraud, our bank had a problem with their cash machines and couldn't pay cash out, a technical error, strangely the counters couldn't pay large amounts out either, when hubby questioned why, the cashier said the bank didn't hold enough funds to do so, so hubby said, so basically the machines could work but you've no money for them, still the cashier didn't get it, hubby then asked which is the nearest branch still open and I'll try there, after being told he did say are you not worried about your job with all the branches closing, all he got was a shrug of the shoulders, they've no idea at all.
Good day Lady. Wow this is sad indeed. Shelves stripped and rationing of food products is a true crisis. Hope the situation gets better. Regarding the bank issue, what I have realised even here in Africa, is that unwealthy clients recieved sub minimum treatment from bank employees. Its as though our money is not worth their time and effort and yet the bank needs the money from the millions who aren't wealthy to survive, but still the treatment continues. What an annoyance. Thank you for the video
Many thanks for taking the time to comment have a good weekend
Hi Jill, That is disgusting how you were tret at your bank BUT you came out on top well done for that, Roll on garden production time, Take care.
If I don’t get the right service Ronald I always complain… keep planting 👍🌞
I also rant a lot going to supermarket haha! sometimes there's some good deals at the farmers market though. Enjoy!
Yes and it’s spring here so I’ll be out foraging. 💐
Just found your channel today. I live in the US. Those prices are much better than what I have in my area but we’re not having restrictions as to what we can buy.
Welcome Lee, yes it’s interesting how prices differ around the world. I hope you find my channel useful. Feel free to share any tips here. I live a frugal life. Posting frugal living videos on Fridays. On Sundays I like to forget the headlines and my Sunday videos reflect that. Have a relaxing weekend. Take care 🙋♀️
In the U.S. 2/3/2023 is February 3rd. Do you take bagged apples out of the bag too?
You would be so fun to go shopping with. You're an incredible deal finder.👍
Today, I deposited almost $1,000. If my credit union ever started that, "What are you planning to do with the money?" crap I'd have to start DEMANDING the same before I made a deposit then withdraw all my money from that bank. The nerve of those people. 😡 When they start paying your bills they'll have the right to ask nosey questions. How Rude! I wish you could leave the UK but then we'll probably all be in trouble within the next few years. Blessings, my friend. 🤗💗🌷
Yes JT I take potatoes, carrots, parsnips, most things out of the plastic, including apples, obviously not bags of prepared salad… the apples I show I foraged in autumn so we’re never in plastic, just a wash in a little soapy water , quick rinse and then dry them before
storing them.
I’ve been talking to a friend who sees how frugally I live and we are considering doing a video, where we go shopping together so I can show her how I would save money on her weekly shop.
🙋♀️
Oh my Jill 😳 they have some nerve asking what you want your own money for. I’m so sorry that is happening. On a positive note, great finds at M S. Have a relaxing weekend
Yes, I know. Thank you. Have a great week
Start growing your own fruit and veg. That's what we've been doing
Yes and it’s spring a great time to go foraging
Any veg coming in from Spain and Morocco will have problems as they have had severe weather issues. Live in Ireland and same problem here this weekend, sounds like they have lost crops and can take weeks to replenish. Wow just heard you say about the bank, I know what I would have said and it would not have been what I want it for.
Glad you complained as she was taking the P, they have a right to ask and that's it. In relation to refusing you, think she needs to get off her high horse. You are right, it is bullying and ageism as well, she would not have carried on the same way with someone in their mid 20's 30's as she knows they would not have entertained it. She is one of the reasons they sit behind screens.
Yes I read somewhere they cut back heating greenhouses due to the higher energy costs
The supermarkets need to pay the farmers properly and there wont be as many shortages. They aren't paying the egg farmers so there are egg shortages and now they are refusing to pay the farmers who run the heated greenhouses over winter so now there are fresh salad shortages. The rest of it comes from Europe and is stuck in Kent for up to a week and more so by the time it gets to the warehouses its not worth selling.
As for the bank I would've demanded to see the manager she had no right whatsoever to ask you what you're doing with your money. It's your money not the banks. I'm glad they sorted it though. how incredibly rude of her.
Yes the compensation paid for my night out 😀
I was able to get everything I needed yesterday , tomatoes , lettuce , cucumber. Lots of other fruit and veg available too. So it’s not consistent across the Uk
That’s interesting 🤔
I swapped a few names, and the 1920's song about a shortage of bananas fits perfectly about todays situation
"Yes, we have no tomatoes
We have-a no tomatoes today
We've string beans, and onions
Calabashes, and scallions,
And all sorts of fruit and say
We have an old fashioned banana
A Long Island potato But yes, we have no tomatoes
We have no tomatoes today
Very good 👍
We've seen on the news that you have problems to get tomatoes 🍅 in the 🇬🇧 Good that you got 50£ compensation.
Very hit and miss Heidi , some stores now seem to have a small amount, have a good weekend 💐
I wanted to write in the other comment that my husband was recently asked in the bank what religion he has when he wanted to draw some money. I was startled and I went there as well to get some money out of my account - ready for action but I got it right away. Then I asked sarcastically: "don't you want to know my religion". She was confused and said: "no, of course not." I told her about the other person and she just shook her head.
That’s amazing. What has that got to do with it . I complain if I don’t get the right service.💪💪💪
Oh my goodness I can't believe a bank would even question you on a withdrawal of your own money! That is your money, none of the bank's business!!!!! That is absolutely horrible!!!!!!😳
Yes but a regular question these days.
I can’t believe your bank asked those questions. I won’t be surprised if that starts here.
Yes it surprised me too
Crazy
I know
Oh wow your stores are way worse than ours, rationing that's crazy! What does the bank need to know what your doing with your money? There sure is controlling going on so sorry you have to experience this.
I know I’m glad I complained 🌼
😥 I'm sorry this is happening. Shortages are zeeo fun. I will say that when I convert to CAD, your prices are much much much cheaper than ours here in rural Canada. You shouldn't have to answer questions about using your own money. This makes me very mad. 🤬
We have to stay flexible with whatever is in short supply and substitute
I been looking a tin fruit but still expensive but managed to get Asda tin peach range around 32p we may need to get tin for a bit 😊
Yes Jane I buy those cheaper peaches , I pop them in a sieve and rinse them under the tap to wash the syrup off.
@@BeFree-BeFrugal yes I notice you do that it's nice on you cereals porridge I was getting cheap tin pineapples but not seen lately but will keep looking .
Almost sold off in supermarket
Yes Judy 👍🌞
That is happening here in texas too. Friend recieved insurance payment after house fire and Wells Fargo is refusing to give them any of their money!
Hope they get it sorted soon

Wow, how awful, your money, and you needed to explain how you were spending it. Glad you switched.
I think it makes sense to have a few accounts, even if there’s only a small amount in 👍
@@BeFree-BeFrugal, so correct, the old adage, never put all your eggs in one basket, applies to many things including banks.
Jill you are my Champion. How Dare that cashier speak to you like that. It is The Matrix, we are all living under this covert control and even more so with the Internet. I had a horrible woman who works at the management company that I have to pay service charges. She actually told me she had the right to sell my home if I didn't pay the outstanding charges. I went to the offices and complained but they don't care, said Oh well you are in arrears. These companies make a fortune, I pay 130 euros a month to live in the bloody building even though I own my apartment and they do nothing! I understand your anger and frustration. Like you I never allow Administration to bully and humiliate me but it's extremely stressful. Take care Jill, you hv a sister in battle in France. 💪🤛
Yes Kerrie , too many people let institutions get away with it 💪
