@@Snoogen11 100% After rocket launch it really feels like it did the first time I ever played Factorio. All the new mechanics for space platforms and each planet is so many hours of learning new things, it feels great
The best way I think of explaining the new improved buildings, the better belts and inserters, and especially the quality mechanic is that it allows you to build TALL instead of WIDE factories. That is to say, you'll be able to achieve more with a smaller footprint. It's one of the mechanics I really enjoyed in some modpacks, the idea of having upgraded, higher tier buildings. I also suspect with fewer chunks exposed, that there might be performance improvements. A TALL factory might run better than a WIDE factory producing the same output.

Thank you! Yeah I definitely agree and honestly expected some way to slow spoilage from Aquilo. I'm sure a mod will be made for that ASAP if it isn't already made and just waiting for release lol
Not all techs and mechanics are revealed in detail within FFF's, so it's very possible that there is already a way to use coolant (or even ice) to reduce spoilage, or for alternate recipes in the Foundry/EM plant, or for other things.
@@SikGamer70 yeah, thats what I was hoping, but since Xterminator didn't mentioned that I guess its not a thing... Yet. Will for sure look for a mod for it. Makes a lot of sense to me
Scaling up just got a whole new meaning! Can't wait to see what people do for SPM-optimized megabases now. I'd have to assume that by the time you get to the Aquilo science pack, as long as you have a proper base the tech should allow you to make the previous hassle of 10k SPM look like a joke, especially considering the massive quality stacking you can do with legendary beacons. Basically trying to max out every possible thing to get the fastest crafting possible. I assume you can give up productivity modules in the recipes affected by prod research because this will mean that when you hit the cap of 300% productivity, quadrupling your output, there's no reason to have prod modules so just swap them out. There's so many new options and things to consider so it'll be cool to see what everyone comes up with considering that the 2 main things are exclusive - quality and speed. You really don't want to mix those in one spot, but maybe you could do a 2-step process. Let's say you hit the 300% productivity on a recipe which is because of the recycler 25%. This means each loop can yield 100% of your items, causing no loss which means the quality upgrade loop is basically free except it costs energy. You'd do the productivity and speed on a machine like the EMP or Foundry and only maxed Quality on the recycler since it can't take prod and the speed is mutually exclusive with quality. This will be cool.
I have two questions about space platforms: 1. Why you can walk on it? In fff delevopers sad, that you will be trapped inside a platform 2. Can we transport materials between space platforms? Like make high speed cargo ships in space and stationed platforms on orbit?
I used the map editor to drop myself on it. Normally you can't walk on it as you mentioned. And sadly no, you can't transfer between platforms directly at all. It all has to go down to a planet first and then back up to the other platform
uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary are good names imo, colors as well. anyone who has played world of warcraft will instantly recognize the colors and naming scheme :)
Great video. I have so many questions. Do existing bitters evolve beyond what they are in the base game? How does time work when going to other planets? Like if you go to another planet do the bitter attacks stop? Is there a way to recycle materials? Reason i ask is once you get to end game and focus on quality could the duds be recycled? What happens if you already have an existing save file, do you get to import it or is it better to start over?
Thanks! Good questions. For evolution, it's basically the same, but one major change is that the spawners get more health as evo increases now. So they continually get harder in that regard. For time passing, it all happens at the same time. So yes, if you're on one planet or on a space platform, you can get attacked elsewhere or have trains jam or stuff back up etc. all planets and platforms are 'live' simultaneously. The recycler I showed from Fulgora can recycle stuff! And yup, you can put quality items through to get back some of the resources, and it's definitely a viable strategy. For importing saves, I actually haven't personally tried but the devs said most stuff should migrate fine. There may be a few broken things in the factory but it should work fine for the most part.
Space Age speedrunning is gonna be super interesting. I bet people will come up with all kinds of routes and blueprints, debate on which planet order is most optimal, maybe even use quality modules to gain those precious seconds by praying to RNGesus and getting certain machines/modules with good quality.
For sure! I'm also really curious what the new 100% runs will look like. Doing all new achievements in Space Age is going to be a huge undertaking. Going to be keeping a close eye on the speed runs and 100% runs for sure
I'm thinking most speedruns will be done without the quality mod. I don't think in general speedrunners enjoy purposefully adding more RNG into their game.
I think Quality is a bit scary becase you start having lots of variations of the same item. For a mall setup this can be fixed by having a limit setup in the inserter, but yeah I think the quality thing will work better once you can recycle components to keep a loop and all of that. Either way, its good to know you don't actually need it, it means quality will serve more for min-maxing something.
as far as gleba has no one heard of refrigeration? they can make a giant cooler to store it in and for some reason you need the ammonia from the last planet for Freon gas
Considering how far you can go with a single raw resource using legendary prod modules in Foundries, EM plants etc.. I don't think this will be much of an issue at all in late game/megabases. Especially when you consider legendary rocket pads with legendary modules building rockets absurdly cheap and launching them in seconds.
@@parliecharker4316 feelsbadman :( Luckily you can make the elevated rail stuff on any planet you want them on though. The 100 belt is what gets me, it's real rough lol
Nah, rockets in space age are 1/20 the cost of a 1.1 rocket. Combine that with the newly introduced productivity research for a lot of the rocket components, the rockets in space age are quite cheap.
Oh my god while waiting for Uranium Ammo research to finish so I can deal with demolishers, I saw that you could use storage tanks on the space platform I knew you couldnt use chests, but I just assumed you couldnt use storage tanks either oh my fuel processing is going to be so much simpler now!
The thing thats had me wondering for nearly a year now... If making an item with quality components guarantees the quality item... Is there nothing stopping people from just grinding Quality at the most basic levels of crafting and producing parts from there? Grinding for Legendary gears and green circuits seems alot more resource efficient than going for the main recipes directly. Granted that wont work for everything, since a lot of recipes still require things like plates or platics that wont allow a total skip of the quality grind, but im assuming that using quality parts still increases the odds of producing quality machines.
Yes, the end result of the craft is based on the lowest quality of all of its components. Using all legendary ingredients will guarantee a legendary item (ignoring fluids, since you can't get quality fluids) I imagine getting quality intermediates will be the most efficient route since you can combine Quality and Productivity modules for multiplicative results. It would probably be most effective to use 2 legendary Prod 3s and 2 legendary Qual 3s to craft legendary intermediates for your quality mall, for assembling machines at least. But this would mean building an entirely new factory just for quality and pouring tons of materials into it, so it's definitely not something you'd want to rush - you definitely want to be able to take full advantage of the Foundry and EM plant before you do anything like that.
Also, I may be wrong but you should be able to put quality mods in miners and get quality ore. Once you have some prod research going you definitely would want to just put full quality mods in your miners and sort the ores into the quality/non-quality factories.
You are spot on. Through all the playing I've done, both before beta access via the 2.0 simulation with ColonelWill and during actual 2.0, grinding quality base materials/intermediates is the best and easiest route imo.
I hoped to see how one actually travels up to and down from space platforms and between planets. I've been slightly disappointed by the *cut*->" Alright, we are now on Vulcanis".
Sorry about that! I kind of considered that spoiler content to be honest so purposely left it out. It's quite a simple process to get up to and down from a platform. Travelling between, not so much
Looks good .A couple of years to play the game right through .Small daily increments . If we can have rail platforms ? Why can we not have walking , driving platforms and bridges ?
Quick question i wanted to ask for the stacking on belts, does it happen even without the specific inserter type? (eg. if the belt is backed up will it stack on top of what is already there)
A big problem with quality is that it messes up blueprints. I spent a lot of time tweaking builds to make sure they either consume or fill a belt. With inserts placed just right so they take or place materials at the right time. If you put something running with different speeds anywhere that changes the whole behavior. And now there are all kinds of levels and combinations of quality. And while they said that it's optional the dev diaries gave the feeling that they balanced some things around it, given how often it was mentioned when introducing some mechanic.
But how is this a problem? If your blueprint only contains normal quality stuff your robots aren't going to randomly place down uncommon machines or inserters. You can then just make a new blueprint for all uncommon or maybe a mix of the two and then use that next. Repeat until you have your all legendary blueprints.
You say that like it's a bad thing. It messing up blueprints and forcing you to either accept some slight inefficiencies or redesign your blueprints is the _exciting_ part!
Can you help? At 46:46 you said any quality assembler can guarantee output of products of same quality of that its ingredients.... So by logic, if I put legendary ingredients in a base non-quality assembler, there is a chance to get products which are not-legendary? Thank you!
The quality of the machine has no impact whatsoever on the quality of the output actually. It's completely determined by quality modules in the machine and the ingredients. You also can't get worse than what you put in. So if you put all legendary ingredients in an assembler to make something, you are guaranteed a legendary quality output. Hope that makes sense
Based on what you said it seems like Space Age is somewhat modular. If this is true, how modular is Space Age? For example, would it be possible to have a base game play through but only have elevated rails/quality?
Correct! But to clarify, you'd still need to buy Space Age to access elevated rails and quality. I just checked though and it does seem possible to disable the space age mod and just keep elevated rails and quality enabled :)
You seem to know what you are talking about. Could you please tell us what mods will be available from the start? Maybe you know from beta phase? I know at least some modders were involved in the DLC.
Lol thanks. But I actually don't know the answer to that. There are a lot of modders that have had beta access so I'd suspect a good variety to be available at launch. I just don't know which ones specifically
@@Xterminator Thanks for coming back. Guess I am just over-hyped, I know the community and I bet they will have updated the most popular stuff in days ^^
So... Char. Heavy metal album cover. Nurgle rot. Frostpunk 3 Looks fun. But what about end goal? If not rocket, do we have something big to do as final point? Or just infinite refining of legendary waste burners?
wait ive done some math .. and i could be off. but if u use the big mining drill full of productivity upgrades then liquify the ore and cast it using the foundry full of productivity.... u get 625 plates from about 11 ore.. (Not thinking about quality here .. just saying)
That was so good, I'm gonna watch it again! Minor question, but does unlimited research still unlock with space science, and does it only scale with that, or do the other packs get involved? Edit: Nvmd, it was at the end of the video that I missed the first time through, you need all science packs. Thanks for clarifying it. ^_^
45:24 I mean, if it doesn't lower the base effectiveness of machines it's just a random chance for better machines... so thusly I def will have it on. XD
@@Xterminator Thanks for the quick reply, love your content! I googled a bit and found that "Official mods (e.g. base) do not disable achievements." I'm assuming Space Age itself is also the same, in case anyone else is looking for this info. Best of luck and have fun!
So, quality is RNG. I was kind of thinking that it would be just a research upgrade. So, instead of just 3 assemblers, there would be more of them. Also, do raw materials have a chance of being of a higher quality? If so, I suppose that I'd use a filtered inserter to pull these off to make sure I get top quality items, that could then build the top quality buildings.
Yup, you can quality modules in miners, smelters (that accept modules obviously) and then do exactly as you said. So far that's the best way I've found, but definitely could be other better strats
There is a way to move resources between space platforms? Like, you can send from soil to the platform using rockets, but is possible to use a static space platform like staging area to a transporter space platform? Could not find any info on it on FFF
@@SikGamer70could be a way to circumvent bottlenecking in loading the platforms!? As you dont have to wait on rockets. But maybe is just space exploration brain talking
@@tacosoda6925 I see what you mean. In that case I would probably just build multiple transporter platforms instead of having one be a staging platform. While one is travelling, the other is parked in orbit accepting rockets, much like with train logistics.
You can either recycle it as TripleOmega said, or if it's intermediates like circus or plate (if you have quality in your smelting and circuit production) then you can save them to try and roll again when using them in future items.
Can you filter items by quality for sorting purposes? So if I’m shooting for a chest of X quality for balance purposes can I pluck only this ones off a belt with an inserter?
I'm conflicted. This looks really interesting but I don't have the time and energy to go through the base game again just to try out the new stuff (I've "finished" the game several times)
Totally understand and I felt the same way. What you could do is either import a save where you've built a whole base already and just make the few fixed in it needed to work with space age changes, or start a new map and import a base blueprint and use editor mode to build it all beforehand. Definitely a few ways to avoid the same early-mid game grind that honestly hasn't changed all that much
Paying for what's should be a free update sounds like they right in line with industry standards... paying for convenience of play is straight out of some scummy mobile game
36:05 - we have to run heat pipes around our fusion reactors? 1 million C plasma (assuming no neighbor bonus) flowing through these bad boys, and they're going to freeze over and stop working unless I put a heat pipe running at a balmy 30 C within 5 tiles of them?
Can elevated rail ramps only go in 4 directions? This is disappointing, especially railguns can go in 8 directions. It would have been important to make compact 4 way junctions that have more throughput as it was possible without elevated rails.
Thank you all so much for being here!

For importing saves, I actually haven't personally tried but the devs said most stuff should migrate fine. There may be a few broken things in the factory but it should work fine for the most part.
I have been looking for this exact video! Thanks!
Yay, glad you're here and hope you enjoy!
some of the best parts of SE and a bunch of QoL love it!
Yeah! Railgun! I'm happy that my favourite weapon from SE will be in SA. (sadly it gonna be unlocked too late)
All the crafting speed modifiers from quality will probably make the belt load balancing calculations a bit more complicated :D
Haha yeah very likely for sure
Oh no.. the factory must grow. Just when I got my life back on track after 10k hours of factorio and running on 2 hrs sleep per day for years
I think Quality is a bit scary becase you start having lots of variations of the same item. For a mall setup this can be fixed by having a limit setup in the inserter, but yeah I think the quality thing will work better once you can recycle components to keep a loop and all of that. Either way, its good to know you don't actually need it, it means quality will serve more for min-maxing something.
Im sorry if my coal fueled train can carry 2.3k belts, a rocket can carry more than 100, thats stupid

It was really 3 mod spotlights in 1, with 1 overhaul mod, and 2 smaller content mods that are independent to played alongside it.
So I'm not exactly hyped for this, as the Space Exploration Mode already has most of these things. More planets as well.
Considering how little rockets have of useful load 1 ton seems not enough, hope there’s an infinite upgrade for that
@@zhuravlevivan4622 That is a cool idea actually and kinda wish they had done that. I'm sure a mod can be made for it though!
@@Xterminator so you’re saying there is no such upgrade? That will totally become a big pain
Im surprised that the EM plant is a 3x3 instead of a 4x4 building, honestly has me kinda excited to see how compact circuit builds will be
Only ONE(!) elevated rail ramp per rocket launch?! I'm going to have to rethink my base plans a bit...
@@parliecharker4316 feelsbadman :(
Luckily you can make the elevated rail stuff on any planet you want them on though.
The 100 belt is what gets me, it's real rough lol
Nah, rockets in space age are 1/20 the cost of a 1.1 rocket. Combine that with the newly introduced productivity research for a lot of the rocket components, the rockets in space age are quite cheap.

I knew you couldnt use chests, but I just assumed you couldnt use storage tanks either
oh my fuel processing is going to be so much simpler now!
Using all legendary ingredients will guarantee a legendary item (ignoring fluids, since you can't get quality fluids)
I imagine getting quality intermediates will be the most efficient route since you can combine Quality and Productivity modules for multiplicative results.
All the stuff is cool, but I'd buy it just for the train changes
@@stratvids Same here. That and the Quality addition would have been enough for me
@@Xterminator yeah the quality looks cool too, can't wait to try it.
I wish you covered all the base game changes as well, like the most recent one with fluids and so on.
That is coming in a separate video later today.
what science packs do i need for elevated rails??
Do you HAVE to do all the space stuff, or can you just play regular factorio?
You can disable space age as you would with a regular mod. That way you have the new features but none of the space faring stuff.
Can we walk on the elevated rail pieces? Like crossing the water on elecated rails?
Sadly no, you are always under them
@@Xterminator can you build more elevated rails while riding in a train? similar to how you can build normal rails from a train.
@@LeonardLuen I would image so! Surprisingly not actually tried it yet though lol
@@LeonardLuen imagine you've missed a spot and now your building train plummets into the water below.
(eg. if the belt is backed up will it stack on top of what is already there)
Only the stack inserter and the large mining drill can stack belts
So. Freaking. Excited.
im so excited
Thank you!!
I haven't really noticed anything clearly balanced around it to be honest. I think it's totally playable without having it on.
That building explosion 😂😂
Woops 😬
after 2k hours i cant wait for my new sandbox
Nice video and thanks for not saying everything 🤙
Can you help? At 46:46 you said any quality assembler can guarantee output of products of same quality of that its ingredients....
So by logic, if I put legendary ingredients in a base non-quality assembler, there is a chance to get products which are not-legendary?
Thank you!
The quality of the machine has no impact whatsoever on the quality of the output actually. It's completely determined by quality modules in the machine and the ingredients.
You also can't get worse than what you put in. So if you put all legendary ingredients in an assembler to make something, you are guaranteed a legendary quality output. Hope that makes sense
You missed the opportunity to call the electromagnetic plant the "EMP"

Looks fun. But what about end goal? If not rocket, do we have something big to do as final point? Or just infinite refining of legendary waste burners?
The "win condition" for Space Age hasn't been revealed yet, we will most likely find out when it releases.
@@SikGamer70Thanks
If you do want to see the end goal, I reveal it in my spoilers video that came out a little bit ago. :)
wait ive done some math .. and i could be off. but if u use the big mining drill full of productivity upgrades then liquify the ore and cast it using the foundry full of productivity....
u get 625 plates from about 11 ore.. (Not thinking about quality here .. just saying)
This is entirely possible. The production numbers get absolutely insane with these buildings and processes!
Holy crap that was quick
Unlike me near train tracks 😅
That was so good, I'm gonna watch it again!
Minor question, but does unlimited research still unlock with space science, and does it only scale with that, or do the other packs get involved?
Edit: Nvmd, it was at the end of the video that I missed the first time through, you need all science packs. Thanks for clarifying it. ^_^
Thank you! :)
Yup, the later infinite researches require you to go to at least one, if not all other planets for the science packs.
Can you choose the planet you want to start on your journey or is the planet being choosen randomly, when you generate a new game?
You can choose! :)
How do you quickly teleport from planet to planet in the map editor?
If I host game, does every player need dlc to be able to play.
45:24 I mean, if it doesn't lower the base effectiveness of machines it's just a random chance for better machines... so thusly I def will have it on. XD
if 100 belts is one ton how much is the engineer carrying?!
Ahaha these are the real questions that we need answers to!
You said rockets will only launch with full stacks of items. What about items that are too heavy to send a full stack?
Does anyone know if enabling quality / elevated rails (as they are mods?) disables steam achievments ? Asking before watching, too curious :D
@@ericpuskas5775 I think it would only disable achievements related to those things.
@@Xterminator Thanks for the quick reply, love your content! I googled a bit and found that "Official mods (e.g. base) do not disable achievements." I'm assuming Space Age itself is also the same, in case anyone else is looking for this info. Best of luck and have fun!
@@ericpuskas5775 Thank you ❤️
Yup it should be the same as well!
@@Xterminator Thanks. And thanks for the good video.
There is a way to move resources between space platforms? Like, you can send from soil to the platform using rockets, but is possible to use a static space platform like staging area to a transporter space platform? Could not find any info on it on FFF
Don't think so, but I'm not sure why you'd want to do this when you can just strap engines and turrets to the space platform you want to move around.
Unfortunately you can not transfer items between platforms without sending them to the ground first and back up to the other one.
But what's the actual end game now?
Before it was building a rocket, but what signals a victory now?
There is apparently un-discussed content post-Aquilo. I think Xterm's video that will be out later today might include information on that.
You can see that in my spoiler video that came out a bit ago. :) I didn't want to include spoilers in this one for stuff like that
Quality Question: If there's only a small chance of getting a higher quality items, what do we do with all the overproduction?
Put it in a Recycler and feed the components back into the production line.
Yes
@@SikGamer70 Sweet! Thanks.
Yup!
@@Xterminator Nice!
Definitely a few ways to avoid the same early-mid game grind that honestly hasn't changed all that much
Rail guns are the new train 😂
Not going to lie... I have considered making a mod where the Rail gun shoots trains JUST for this situation with Xterminator

Did they remove the uranium requirement from space science? You still seem to have inserters set up for it so was this a post-LAN party change?
Yeah they did remove it very recently. The space platforms shown here are from a playthrough about 2 weeks ago.

Can elevated rail ramps only go in 4 directions? This is disappointing, especially railguns can go in 8 directions. It would have been important to make compact 4 way junctions that have more throughput as it was possible without elevated rails.
