    They need to make a law that says trams are _only_ allowed to follow the tracks.
    This way it would be super easy to predict where a tram is moving:
    - Are there tracks here?
    - Yes - I need to move, because a tram might come along these tracks.
    - No - I'm safe... Trams only follow tracks, so as long as I'm not on the tracks, I can't collide with one.
    I think implementing this policy would literally make it impossible to have an accident, and also even the dumbest person can recognize train/tram tracks.

    Respect to both tram and train operators alike for putting up with pedestrians not paying attention and cars on a daily basis. You need to have a strong mental state with everything thrown at ya first hand. Used to live in Jersey City and there they have the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail which stretches across Hudson County at 17 miles. Reminds me of a crash on the light-rail back in 2017 in Downtown Jersey City where a fire truck was on its way to an emergency. They thought they'd be able to beat the light rail coming as they crossed the intersection...they didn't.
    The light rail rammed into it causing a big bang. Four firefighters were injured, with one having a broken arm and ribs while another suffered a leg fracture. Other vehicles underestimate how powerful trams and trains are and that's the problem. People have to remember that trains and trams aren't just transit, they're absolute tanks!

I wish we had it like that in Estonia, trams would then actually be faster than cars. Though in some places they are faster because they have their own separate lanes, while cars sit in the traffic jam.

    in gothenburg, sweden, the trams have specific traffic lights that the tram drivers are in control over and that plays a constant warning sound when a tram is approaching. this system seems to be very effective and since the tram driver is in control they generally don’t need to wait for it and it’s not unnecessarily red when no tram is approaching, so people are more likely to respect it

    In the Netherlands, trams *do not* have priority on zebra crossings, avoiding a lot of the confusing (at least to pedestrians) and dangerous situations in these clips. They also do not have priority when crossing a priority road. They do, however, have priority in all other cases, which still makes taking the tram loads faster than taking the bus or a car.

    • @roy_hks
      @roy_hks 6 лет назад +9

      Lennart Goosens Sadly barely any city in the Netherlands has Trams... My city (Groningen) does have a LOT of separate buslanes. And triple-busses driving on H2O tho. So it's still fast and not too harmful for the environment.

    • @roy_hks
      @roy_hks 6 лет назад +2

    • @lennartgoosens
      @lennartgoosens 6 лет назад +1

      Ik moet het inderdaad wat nuanceren: als ik naar dansles ga en van Amsterdam Zuid naar hartje centrum moet, dan ben ik het snelste op de fiets, duurt het iets langer met de tram, en zou ik met de auto geregeld stil staan en tien minuten op zoek zijn naar een dure parkeerplek. En dat terwijl die tram door de Utrechtsestraat gaat (waar de auto's geregeld op de tram moeten wachten).
      Als ik naar een bestemming moet die over de snelweg of een buitenwijk efficiënt bereikbaar is, bijvoorbeeld naar Amsterdam Noord, dan is dat natuurlijk inderdaad veel sneller dan een tram (of in dit geval tram en veer).
      Trams rijden eigenlijk vooral op plekken waar het zo druk is dat ze a) het verkeer ontlasten (stel dat al die mensen in hun eentje de auto namen...) en b) het voor de inzittenden alsnog vaak sneller is dan filerijden en parkeren. Het gaat dan bijvoorbeeld om drukke winkel- en uitgaansgebieden, waar het bestaan van een tramlijn al gauw de bouw van een parkeergarage of drie scheelt.
