- "The Rookie" is a 2018 crime drama television series created by Alexi Hawley. The series follows John Nolan, a middle-aged man who pursues his dream of becoming a Los Angeles Police Department officer after a life-changing event. The show is inspired by the true story of the oldest rookie in LAPD history.

I was thinking the same. In a normal situation they would’ve tased the dad with guns drawn and the little girl would be dead.
I would argue that they are, you just don't ever hear about them because they don't stir up drama or draw attention from the news because they're actually doing their job. I believe there are way more good cops than there are bad, because at the end of the day, good or bad, you signed up for a life endangering career. Bad people are self serving and self-preserving by nature. Doing a job that would put you at risk of death DAILY completely goes against those goals.

Cops only do their best thinking after they've made a situation worse so they can cover themselves. Any cop being told "No" today is going to draw their guns, call for a K9, pull a person out of their car, and manufacture probable cause so they can pop the trunk without the driver's consent.
