I did not think I could be any more enamoured by Queen Margarethe but hearing her use the word 'snob' (obviously being jovial and serious) to describe another person ...... so refreshing and lovely! 😍

Here I sit 03 January 2024 and in two days saw all 6 videos with so much enjoyment and taking it all in. In a few days her Royal Majesty Queen Marguerite of Denmark will abdicate and her first born Prince Frederick will be crowned King with the most beautiful gracious former Australian Mary Donaldson as his Queen. What an amazing family. Thank you for loading on RUclips this amazing family history. Sadly many of the younger generation like former King Constantine have passed. RIP wonderful people that one way or another left a mark in this world.

This was a great series. I really appreciate all the family who were so gracious to share their interesting family history. In reality their entire family history has been one of public service. Apart from all that, it is much easier to understand and remember history from first hand accounts. This is just breathtaking. Thank you to all who participated.

Unfortunately, as is pointed out in this series, incest is fairly common. King Haakon VII of Norway as well as his son King Olav V married their 1st cousins respectively, and King Juan Carlos I of Spain had great great grandparents who were uncle and niece. Also Valdemar was gay and I’m not 100% certain on the sexuality of Prince George of Greece and Denmark. The notion is not too infeasible

I second Michelle: thanks so much, six times over. Excellent narration; excellent film clips (many of which I'm sure are rare); and an excellent selection of photographs. But the real joy for me, are the commentaries that the descendants of King Christian IX and Queen Louis make: not only do they add historical context to the subjects, they also make their ancestors come to life through the delightful personal vignettes. (As but only one example, the late Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg's reminiscences of "Uncle Gogi" and of her introduction to peanut butter.) Equally important is just how poised, thoughtful, and articulate the commentators are; they give a whole new depth to people who may have been better known primarily from their appearances in gossip columns. Dare I hope that this series might be updated at some point in the future? (Greedy of me, I know, but the series as a whole is so excellent that I don't want it to end.) Again, my thanks for making this available to us.

As an American who is a teacher of British Literature, I have always had a need to familiarize myself with British history in order to give historical context to my students. While aware of Victoria’s contributions around the world, I was not aware of the Danish Royal Family’s considerable contributions to the world wide royal families. I have been aware of the very tight relations between all of the monarchies, but Queen Victoria always gets the credit as the the Grandmother of Europe. I do follow the current royals, so so wonderful to see Queen Margerethe “Daisy” a bit younger and so pretty, and CP Frederick so young. I love to see the birthday photos of CP Frederick and CP Mary’s children. They are lovely.

Thyra insisted that the little girl should grow up in Denmark. She did, but it isn´t quite clear what happened. The best substantiated is as follows: Maria spent 4 years with the ironer at Glüksborg. She was then adopted to an M.S. in pharmacology Rasmus Jørgensen and his wife Anne Marie in Odense. There is a story of a rejected return. In 1902, Maria married Lieutenant Frode Pløyen-Holstein. He died in 1942, She died in 1964. The marriage remained childless. She lived her adult life on "Tangegaard" near Lundeborg on Funen.

Denmark is a great country who choose to enjoy what best of its King&Queen rather than grudging over their unusual/flaws and it is so refreshing to observe family spirit and love that connects The descendants of Father in Law of Europe and continued with Uncle of Europe, and to connect with somewhat the egalitarian attitude of Denmark's Royal families while still conscientiously perform their royal status. Viva Denmark, may the Denmark Kingdom thrives in time of changes

I've been watching this in shock mostly. I can't believe how many European royalty are Danish. This guy must have been very ambitious. Just finished the series. So all of Europe is connected. I don't believe I have any Danish blood, but I've visited Copenhagen and Norge. I loved both countries and would dearly love to return for an extended visit. This royal family is remarkable. I think it's amazing we can see and hear the children and grandchildren who have thrived despite many tragedies. I sense also they have a strong Christian faith. So anyway, thank you for this wonderful documentary about such an outstanding father-in-law!!

A fascinating documentary. So much emphasis is placed on the British royals' history that there isn't room for the Danish royals. I was surprised to dee that there are many connections between the two families.
I'd always planned to visit the family lands my ancestors emigrated from. My first ancestors came from the Netherlands in 1627 and were Dutch. In 1653 the next group came. They were French Huguenots living as refugees in the Netherlands but were originally from Normandy where they'd settled centuries before after leaving Denmark and were members of the nobility. They did well in America and had probably brought some wealth with them. They bought huge landholdings after the British stole the Dutch colony and they'd lost their positions with The Dutch West India Company. After over two hundred years of Dutch/French marriages I acquired Welsh, Scottish, Irish, German grandmothers and a Sicilian Grandfather. Too many countries to visit and now I'm too old.

I've always been interested in history and the several royal families most specially the Romanovs. I know European royals are interconnected somehow but I've never seen a documentary this extensive and I learned so much here. I enjoyed watching royalties actually tell the stories of their ancestors so candidly. I wish there's a copy of this in Asia so I can buy it or something.

Princess Marie was a legend and so far ahead of her time. I love her 'I give a fck' attitude! Where's her movie? I'm sick of pampered Marie Antoinette; I want Marie of Orleans, with her anchor tattoo in support of her husband, dedication to family, riding bulls, artistic painting, patronage of the firefighters, and overall being down to earth.

At 23:14, the narrator meant to say Princess Marie's sister-in-law Czarina Dagmar (or Maria) not Prince Waldemar, who was Dagmar's brother. The narrator was off with relationships or facts from other episodes before this.
