Hearing him compare being stoned to death to being unfairly accused of "being sus and schmooving in admin" in a children's game is the funniest shit I've heard all week
One of the funnier NL segments I've seen in a while. The combination of the grossly unfitting art, NL trying to banter but becoming progressively more uncomfortable, and chat's descriptions had me rolling.
Jacob Geller's recent video on execution methods changed my opinion on lethal injections. Apparently not only does it have the highest failure rate of methods used in the past 100 years, the paralyzing agent means that the executed could be suffering greatly, they just can't express it, which would be even worse than just excruciating pain. It deserves to be Mid at highest.
@@Domebuddy guillotine's often weren't properly weighted or sharpened, botching the execution and requiring multiple repeat drops to successfully kill the executionee
Sorry for commenting a year after the fact but is there a big difference from animal euthanasia in injections? For what I've seen the chemicals are the same but animal Euths sound relatively painless.

Hanging is a discussion of how you hang someone. For example there are the pull up, the short drop and the long drop method. The pull up method is really cruel and closely related to strangling. You choke to death and have several minutes to experience this, struggling for your life. The short drop in its ideal form will make you unconscious and then choke you out, but if you are unlucky it doesnt and you still struggle. Terrifying because of the unknown. The long drop will break your neck and is probably one of the most humane ways to kill someone.
being in chat as we all collectively had the vigor, optimism, and the purity of our souls slowly drained from us as we considered each method was quite the experience. i will remind you all that this was literally the first thing he did in that stream lmao, good fucking morning everyone

Would just like to put here apparently lethal injection is painful as hell and people can be trapped coma style for minutes not reacting but their body feels on fire.
I don't know if anyone ever corrected NL, but there are still 4 states that use firing squads, and they use 5 people, 4 with blanks and 1 with the live round. That way they don't even know which one was the killing shot.
The main reason firing squads went out of fashion is more because of the trauma gunmen developed rather than it being from a humanitarian standpoint. Also we started associated those with despotic government so it's not great PR. I think some states used to have a statute that you could at least get off death row if you survived because it's basically God's will at that point. I wish they offered the same to those who underwent failed electrocution. Edit: also the firing squad is voluntary nowadays.
He knows, he made the point in past streams that even though like the electric chair some of this methods are technically still legal. They are not used anyway so it doesn't matter. Last electric chair execution in the US was more than 20 years ago I believe.
Oh my favorite (most terrifying) one wasn’t included. Where a rat-filled pot is strapped to a persons stomach, and heated with coals so the rats burrow through the stomach to escape the heat. 😱
Any form of death related to cooking alive is instantly worse than hell. And that’s only due in small part to the pure agony you experience as all your nerves are literally set ablaze by your own melting body fat, and due much more in part to the fact that once all your nerves burn away you’re simply left to observe your own body cook and fall apart as the flames overtake you until eventually your eyes boil and melt out of your skull, and presumable your inner ear also boils and explodes, leaving you blind, deaf, and unable to feel anything, you’re just a vegetable being melted.

I'd put drowned to death way higher. I've had two near-death experiences drowning when I was a kid. I don't fully remember them, but I don't think they were that bad. The life flashing before your eyes part was kinda nice, though likely all of these will have that aspect.
For some of these you do have to take chance of failure into account unironically though. For example if you were to be broken on the wheel but there's an accident (the wheel breaks or you fall off or whatever) it was considered a divine intervention and then you were absolved of the crime and treated for your wounds
"The guillotine is an acceptable way to die." "I don't like any word that sounds like its from middle English." As to be expected from someone of French ancestry like EnElle
Since the middle ages, the motive driving the adoption of newer execution techniques has been to reduce the suffering of the executor and not the victim. Discuss.
Chat getting mad at him for putting lethal injection at the top because it often fails but then getting mad at him for putting hanging next to drowning because it often snaps the neck proves that they just disagree with whatever he says just for the sake of disagreeing
I mean, technically it makes sense. The injection failing makes it more painful so more of a mildly disturbing, while the hanging snapping your neck makes it less painful. That said yeah he specified "just successful executions" so the injection part doesn't apply. Technically though i believe the noose snapping the neck is indeed the successful version (unless the executioner wants to be a dick about it, in which case it's the same as strangling).
Hanging is still better than drowning even if your neck doesn't snap (in fact, neck snapping doesn't change a thing) because you don't die because you can't breathe, you die because blood can't reach your brain. There's a pretty big difference between asphyxiation and oxygen depravation
