I couldn't agree more. It should be broadcast on a regular basis...and everywhere. Its beauty and message are so incredibly haunting. And don't overlook the awesome music by Dutch composer, Siddhartha (Sid) Barnhoorn, who should have received an Emmy for it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me too. It's my absolute favourite advert. Deeply moving. I've passed it on to people and I keep it to watch myself. Many thanks to all involved in making it. With love from Ireland. ❤️👍
I had my husband watch this video when it first came out and it impressed him so much he started wearing his seat belt every time he got in the car, something he hadn't done before. Today he was in a rollover accident going to work and as the highway patrol took him out of the mangled car they said he if he hadn't been wearing his seat belt he would have surely died. Thank you for making this video... you saved his life.
This is still absolutely the best psa I've ever seen. Beautiful, simple makes the point and tugs at your heart without any blood or guts. Advertising brilliance.
It's already been said over and again in the comments but I consider this a work of art. Whoever wrote, directed, and produced/edited this piece are geniuses and as talented as any I've ever seen. It captures everything in life as it passes by your eyes in that moment when the frailty of existence becomes clear. And your family and loved ones are symbolic in this piece, and would keep you safe if they could, but the end result is those are the ones you would leave behind. It is brief, it is poignant, it is relevant, and it is just an incredibly well done film.
I watched this 10 years ago before having kids and I still teared up and got captivated by it. The look of fear on his eyes and the concern in his daughter’s and how she and his wife run to embrace his and save his life is powerful. And now I have a 9 year old girl and this video hits me even harder ❤️
+Ally Stevens Just the way the little girl is looking at her daddy. She loves him so much. And his wife is so in love with him. I never get much past the first 10 seconds without it drawing tears from my eyes. When I teach rhetoric to my students I use this ad to underscore pathos. Teenagers will try to cover their tears, usually unsuccessfully.
As a Defensive Driving Instructor in three different programs, and a Driving Instructor for everything (except motorcycles) from a VW Beetle to tractor-trailer/doubles, and a 50 year veteran of the fire service...I can honestly say this is the most compelling video I've ever seen on this subject. I used to use it to close every training session I delivered. In addition, I can vouch for the fact that an air bag is truly 'the kiss of life' - as I've had one go off in my face due to a crash that was not my fault. I also attended many living patients who were saved by seat belt/air bag combinations. And, finally, I've only cut two dead people out of seat belts. One had their neck broken by the violent thrashing due to a horrendous rollover; the other due to a violent crash without an airbag. ALL the rest wearing seat belts lived; most of the others, who did not have one on...died - some within, and some as much as 100' away from the vehicle.
Oh my gosh me too! I keep coming back here to watch it - a couple of times a year. I even contacted the artist who did the music and congratulated him on such a wonderful and perfect piece for this message.
Best script, best casting, best realization, best music .... this is for eternity. Never stop striving for pure perfection! And fasten your seat belts of course 🙂
This Commercial says soo much. It's very emotional because the fact that this guys family stepped in as a Seatbelt to save him, the impact was huge. But he would not have to worry, its like the love from his family saved him. Loved it.
The add that saved my life 2 and half years ago. When I was driving my car, I remembered it and smiled and put on the seat belt. 15 mins later I had an accident where my car was damaged completely. I was blessed to come out alive without any scratch. Thank you Lord.
Update: My husband only had a few nasty bumps and bruises and has already been released to go back to work. His car, on the other hand, was totally mangled. Even the insurance agent commented how lucky he was and how his seat belt did a lot to keep him safe. Once again my daughter, husband, and I THANK you from the bottom of our hearts !
There's something about that moment when they both rise up off the couch that puts a lump in my throat. I've watched it several times and it gets me there every time.
First, I can't watch this ad just once. It's an over-and-over session. Second, I have to wipe my eyes. Every time. Masterful. Kudos to everyone involved.
I have watched this many times and it still makes me tear up and get very emotional. It is my very favourite advert. I have passed it on to family and friends. Many thanks to all involved in the making of this wonderful advert - including the lovely actors. Love & best wishes from Ireland. 👍🇮🇪
Saved this video on my PC twelve years ago. It is such a masterpiece, from every point of view, that I can't stop rewatching it. More than 20 million views well deserved.
You know, I had heard of this and never watched as it sounded very overdramatic as man public service ads are. This is the only one that has ever evoked an emotional response from me without the rather poor taste of using graphic images or stories involving injured children. This is an amazingly well done video.
I just saw a disgusting ad like that. Graphic theatrics and lunacy and injured children. There are so many better ways to make an impact than glorified lunacy and destruction.

Ok, I cried and I dont know why. I have wife and daughter so not sure if this was why it was extra special, or because it was just perfect. Either way I loved it.
Man....English is not my first language, yet I do get the same reaction you do from this simple clip. The message is powerful, but crystal clear. Please be sensible, wear a seatbelt.
How can there be ANY thumbs down on this incredible spot?? I am currently narrating "Hey, Whipple! Squeeze This!", one of the best books on advertising ever written, and this is one of the author's highlighted spots for excellence. And deservedly so. I still get goosebumps when I see it all these years later. Kudos to Daniel Cox and company.
Upon watching this video multiple times, I've sort of begun to look at this video in another light. An analogy for life, and when things get dark, and how family/friends are there for you when you take a bad path in life. The climax of this darkness being when he crashes and his loved ones hold on to him for dear life. Looking at it like that made this video even MORE impactful to me.
I saw this in drivers ed today and it brought tears to my eyes. Watching this felt so warm and happy. This reminds me that wearing a seat belt isn't just for me, but also for the people who love me. So glad I fell upon this beautiful piece of art.
This video is by far one of the most beautiful video's I have ever seen. Every time I watch it, I tear up. Such a powerful message! Sometimes I find myself watching it over and over again. Really makes one think just how fragile life really is and should enjoy every second we have..
What a wonderful way to make the point that safety saves lives. Great idea. Thanks to those who dreamed up this PSA. My car was part of a major impact accident and my seat belt and air bag saved my life also. I didn't even have my glasses knocked off my face. It was awesome. The other fellow was NOT wearing his belt and he suffered major injuries and was taken to the hospital. Both vehicles were totaled. I had not even a scratch on me, and he spent days in the hospital. Lesson learned!
I have kept this ad/art piece in my FAVS list for many years. It is a masterpiece of advertising, where I spent my career. The visuals are indeed, well done...telling a story, simple and strong. But remember, it's the music that brings in the emotion and the power. The masterpiece of this score is why we all love this ad. Try watching it without the music, and you will know what I mean.
Time and again whenever I watch this, even almost a decade now since it was made, the emotions still hit through. This should be a Hall of Famer in advertising!
I did. I have come back several years in a row. I have shared it numerous times. It is brilliant. I get chill bumps every time I watch it. It is now the year 2024 and it is still as important as it was when I first saw it more than ten years ago and still carries the most impact. It took an accident for my daughter to start wearing a seat belt when she drives. She was lucky she was not hurt worse. I am thankful God was with her that day. I wish this PSA had been around them. I would have shared it with our children. Today, she wears a seat belt every time she gets in a car. To me, fastening the seat belt is second nature.
Such a powerful statement. Every time I see this video it brings me to tears. Perhaps it is because I have seen first hand on more than one occasion fatal accidents. I am a firm believer in the use of seat belts, they do save lives.
I am seeing it, I cry. I put the repeat button and crying again and I put again the repeat button again and cry again etc etc etc. And probably I am getting a strange addiction to this small piece of art who is all about love and protection.
Any aid towards safety, may reach certain people, including the crash, blood, shock type imaging/video. . . but this idea and production to convey the tenderness and yearning most of us recognise and value highly as people - in the title, the imaging, and the link to safety belts as "embrace life". . . is a great piece of work. . . thanks.
Hi Lara, this is a fantastic piece of genius work, from all involved. No words, but a message everyone from every country can understand. I wish it was shown on TV here in Ireland as a road safety ad. The first time I saw it 2 years ago it made me cry, and every time I watched it again. And now I watched it after more than a year and it made me cry again! And I dont mean just watery eyes!! Very very good work. A powerful and moving message. David.

Excellent----but, maybe too sensible for some, perhaps Darwins principle of, the survival of the 'fittest' , is at play here.
Written and directed by Daniel Cox.
Yes. It's strongly crafted enough that it would stand on its own without being a commercial for anything.
