- Tom Rosenbauer demonstrates how to tie an Elk-Hair Caddis from his home tying station. Here's the recipe:
Elk Hair Caddis
Hook: Standard dry-fly hook, sizes 10-18.
Thread: Brown or tan, 6/0 or 140-denier.
Rib: Fine gold wire.
Body Hackle: Brown.
Body: Tan fur dubbing.
Wing: Bull-elk hair.
This was in 360p and just shows how far Tom's own money and camera has improved the video quality. Though the content is just awesome. I have been tying forever and I just love hearing Tom talk about so many different aspects that it makes me rethink what I am doing with my own flies.
Thank you. Our younger crew just got their first beginner fly tying kits. Very helpful.
Thank you for tieing that fly!
Thanks Tom, great to watch and informative as always. ( Melbourne AUSTRALIA
What many anglers don't realize that Al Troth's Elk Hair Caddis is one of the best emerging caddisflies there is to fish. Don't dress it with fly floatant and add a small size 10 split shot around 10" above the hook eye. Works as well as an X-Caddis, sometimes better! As a quick history note - Al first designed his Elk Hair Caddis as a wet fly, but found that elk hair was quite buoyant.
Hey Tom good Luck on the water 🤙👍
Hello from Hopkins MN near Minneapolis!
When do you have your live videos? Would love to catch one
Will you tie the fly ?
FYI - The hair stacker appears to be from Stonfo, and Italian company.
Tom in your opinion does Dave Whitlocks nymph represent a October caddis
I've seen in your fly box. We know you love eggs and San Juan worms😆
Looks like you’re vise is upside down
Do you own a shirt with a collar?😂
Such boring introduction…should have had everything ready…. Just get on and tie the fly..
