Can you surf with the leash in the reverse coil position or does that defeat the purpose?

Looks good although website is in Europe and have sold out of large /xl
Hard to explain but is the coil strong on this .?
As my current one is so strong it keeps pulling the strap down from my bicep to my elbow (wetsuit on )
