Re: Smashing the pack open on the break. I find hitting the second red down in the pack with lots of bottom is the best way. It doesn't send the pink/blue up the table, and you occasionally get a red in the corner as a bonus. Oh and you need to put the white ball right up against the yellow/green for maximum angle into the pack.

Here's a couple of questions for your next Q+A:
You were famed for your mentality, so how did you prepare yourself for a session where you started it behind your opponent or seemingly down and out in the match? Also, did you ever try to work on your mental strength or was it just something that came completely naturally to you?

Tried 10 times and the best I could get was 27. From line ups, I’ve had a 93 and 95. You realise that making a break from a random pack is next level snooker, and that Stephen can still do it at 55, when he doesn’t play or practise as much as he used to is fabulous. I’m 54, born in the same year, so it gives me hope of an in-frame century yet! Well done Stephen, love watching your videos, especially the tough table challenge.

My break practice routines have always been to make 75+ once there I will try to make a century, but I will never try to free more reds unless needed for the 75+. That mindset for me has always worked better for winning frames and therefore matches even against players who make a lot more centuries than I do because they leave more chances to steal a frame back. A player who knocks in a 75 in half their frames will always beat a player who knocks in 100+ 1 in 3.

  • @matthewstaffordtheplantbas1017

2 things - 1st if you are right handed you need to break from the green side of the table, this will push more reds to the left of the table to make it easier for a right hander. 2nd your initial shot needs to be played with deep screw so effectively that turns into top spin once it hits the top cushion and reduces the chances of the cue ball coming back off the pack and heading back to the top cushion.

Stephen, can you incorporate the display of where and how strong you are striking the ball in the videos like this one, similar to what Steve Barton does? Thanks.

There's something to be said for that break-off. It's like a hybrid of the standard and Mark Williams' version. Still feels safer than leaving that long red on every single time.

Its an absolute privilage to be able to watch Stephen Hendry on his own RUclips channel and POTENTIALLY have some sort of faint interaction with him. Ive always been a HUGE Hendry fan was always the best imho and me fave 147 was the one in 2009 against Shaun Murphy that was amazing that... Mind you a dont do being a Steohen Hendry fan justice when it fomes to Snooker... Av only olayed on a 6x3 table which a love to bits and have only potted a think 3 balls in a row 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Nice break Stephen, one thing you could try is roll all reds down the table (like in a previous challenge) but no colours spotted, spot the colours then have ball in hand on your first shot. Have 3 attempts and see what break you can make.

Stephen, when you played soon as you posted the first red the century was on. Grew up watching you play. Staying up late to watch the snooker, Top program

Hi stephen would you ever consider hosting a live stream of a cue tips tournament maybe the top16 players each year you won the world championship.

Thank you for that vid. It shows, that absolute nothing is easy in snooker. Best takeaway for me: Hitting the pack from the black cushion seems to be a "really not bad" safety as beginner. Can you please do a short, about how to shoot cue ball, so that it stays nice near the black cushion?

52 is currently the max score I've managed in a frame, so far, so even a 51 break would make me plenty chuffed! Onwards and upwards.

Time to do an interview with yourself on your channel! What are your plans? Are you gonna play more qualifiers? Why are you working with a coach if you are not interested in a comeback?

Think I might start breaking like that from now on. Leaves it safe most times, and you don't go in off! (which I'm good at)

I used to break this way in comps. You might get lucky and pot a red in the middle with half a chance at the black, or generally reds push up the table and it's safe quite a high percentage of the time.
Looks crazy, but there is method to the madness
