One of the things I love most about this channel is Stephen leaving his own errors in. It would be so easy to edit everything to make him look better than he is at this time in his life. But by showing that even arguably the greatest ever player makes mistakes, it keeps it real. It's fascinating watching the breaks where something of his old fluency returns (not being funny, but his play was great against Mark Williams' son) as they seem more special that way. I'm so impressed with his attitude in being honest about himself. Top man.

Lets remember the standard he had to play back when he won so many titles the only real competitors he had was Davis and White. Ronnie won most of his titles with a much stronger field with so many top players that can win it any day just to name a few Trump, Wilson, Higgins, Selby, Williams, Robertson, Allen, Murphy the list goes on and on. So in conclusion he was a great player for the opponents he had to face, did he have any of the type of opponents I mentioned he would definitely not have won much or any.

I haven’t played in YEARS (moved the u.s. in 92 and started a laying pool a couple of years ago). Had a recent work trip to Ireland and found a snooker club just around the corner from the office. Watched this practice for a couple of hours over a couple of days and then played with a bloke from work. I had a 38 and a 20 break in the same frame! The 38 should have kept going but played a terrible shot on a red to get out of position. My previous highest break way back when was 32 lol
Long story short, probably going to quit my job and turn pro now lol😂😅😊😂
    Cheers Mr H!

I managed a 52 break on my lunch break years ago with a colleague; easily my highest ever. I'm currently on step 3 but haven't managed to do it in fifty attempts so far. Annoyed cos want to get to stage 4, which I suspect I'll actually find easier. That 52 seems doable, though my best was done in an actual match (mostly blues and pinks to middle pockets).

Agree with the multiple runs. You will reach a limit quickly by progressing 10, 20, 30, etc. Playing each level 3 times provides not only developmental experience but confidence. Another practice method is to 10 runs and establishing an average; with practice you polish your skills (with again...confidence).

"never over hit the ball", yeah, that was a weakness for me. I never got over 60 (had a few mid-50s during games, I could maybe get mid-30s reliably). I wasted a lot of time early on belting stuff. Translates to pool too (excluding the break I guess), walloping the ball should be a last resort.

I used to love playing snooker but the club closed down. Like they all seem to be doing. Why aren't the snookering bodies getting behind this? Where will the next Hendry, O'Sullivan, Selby, Trump etc come from if there are no clubs anymore? They may as well move the Worlds to China or elsewhere as the UK won't have any players in 10 years!!

I got onto the 50 break rung 45 years ago. I immediately fell off it again. Never got anywhere near since. One problem is that I can win plenty of games in our league without ever getting above a twenty break. Each player only plays one frame. One win is one league point for the team. It's too risky to take chances when you have 60+ year old eyes! RUclips channels like yours have got me practicing USEFULLY again and when the new season comes around in September, maybe I won't be such a negative b.st.rd!! If I can knock in a thirty break on my handicap it is basically game over.

I've never played snooker before but I love watching it. I've been thinking about going to play somewhere in my city (Glasgow). Would I look like a weirdo if I just turned up and started practicing this? What are these places like for complete beginners?

Just go to a club one afternoon, it’ll be quiet, and you just pay per hour and knock the balls around, no one will give a toss, they’ll be doing their own thing 👍🏼

I wish we had these vids when I was playing.
    In snooker, I didn't progress much beyond the intermediate level - 30s & 40s consistently - the occasional 50 or 60 - rarely made 70s & 80s - & I made centuries once in a blue moon (maybe 5 of them in all)
These days, there's no reason why a player can't reach a decent level if he's prepared to put the time & work into it. These coaches & former players tell you everything you need to progress up the rankings.

Thank you mr Hendry. My personal best is 55 which 5 black + 1 pink..which i miss the last red through double into the mid pocket.. looking good with this practice, however it was quite different feelings when we go into real match. The nerve got the best of our confidence

the only reasonable break i ever made was about 20 years ago and it was ~ 25 or so and i remember i had atleast one green in that lot.
other than that i just cannot play snooker lol. I keep DELIBERATLEY putting side on stuff like i would in pool. and then i miss everything by miles.. But the white goes where i wanted in general :D p.s im no good at pool any more either :D and i wasnt great at my peak lol.

Really good video...just getting into snooker and had a go at the 20 break. Really keeps you focused on positioning and seeing how the white responds to cue power. Looking forward to trying the 30 break at some point.

I was just saying to myself what if you miss as you went for the red using the rest and you said it's no problem as I'm using the rest! And then you miss it! Brilliant Stephen I'm glad you left that in and had a laugh yourself. I'm going to a snooker club with my best mate soon but haven't tried snooker for years and I have only potted two balls in a row! However I've been watching a lot of your cue tips so I've learnt a lot in theory! Just need to practice now. Wish me luck! I'll need it! 😂

Love these types of videos, really helps with having something to actually practice. Although, I would also love to hear some thoughts and tips maybe on how cloth affects the cue ball. I never know if I'm playing a shot wrong or if the cloth is just too worn for the type of shot I played. Would be interesting to know!

Looking at the cue ball strike marker thing, I was surprised how little he used side, almost not all. Even when he did, it was very slight. It's amazing how much you can do with a cute ball with screw, stun and follow through.

That point you mentioned about getting excited when you're nearing a milestone break - so can relate to that! I was on a 68 in a league match, and had a diag blue into green pocket, with nothing to do with the cueball as the red was near. I was in the zone till everyone stopped and my opponent changed his tone in announcing the break. After realising what break i was on, and what i could have ended up with, i (of course) bottled the blue. 68 still remains my highest match break 😔

Bloody hell stephen! You've got a bit of a Willie Thorne hair-do apearing through your thinning thatch. You need to get hold of Jimmy Whites hair transplant guy, and get that sorted. Either that or get the camera man to get some more flattering footage.
