Really appreciate the honest hobbyist review Andy. As an original V1 owner I kind of read between the lines and bought a like new set of V2’s for half their original price. Covering at least all my current air units and hopefully the upcoming 03. Keep up the great honest reviews mate.
These are my first fpv goggles and I have to say that the form factor is very important to me. Being able to carry it around easily means it's way more likely that I'll at least go out and fly a bit. I found that for me, convenience is king!!!
Sorry Fatshark, it's been a pleasure, but I just found someone way more attractive and up-to-date. It's been nice spending time with you, but you became an old-tech and didn't care much about improving to keep me around. I know, it will hurt but, you can't beat the power and beauty of an Apple design. Welcome DJI to my FPV world, but be aware that I'm also flirting with HDZero, she really is an eye-catcher too! 😁
I think people (including me) are feeling a bad case of FOMO but this video helps a LOT. if you have a system that works and you’re happy with it no need to spend extra money. There’ll always be something seemingly better than what you have.
As always Andy, you get to the nub of the matter and independently point out those annoying details about products that others ignore or gloss over. And I agree, these major manufacturers will always stop communicating with reviewers if there is any hint of negativity - as I found out to my own cost. Keep up the great work.
In summary, at least for me, this system is a pass. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the upcoming Hdzero goggles. DJI has lost me on no backward compatibility.
HDZero is a pass for me because it has NO Penetration of objects. Worst in FPV. Analog is better! JB proved that. This Avata has even better than the V2 goggles and Caddx Vistas have - Nurk's video clearly showed that! Best in all of FPV. So, don't hold your breath on HDZero. The performance is weak at best, unless you like doing exactly what Andy was doing in this video - flying in an open field. IMO, that's the ultimate in boring. Then there's the near immediate full rainbow distorted screen loss! Damn, that totally sucks! But, for a hard core racer, that fly in open fields, HDZero is perfect for them. A freestyle pilot who likes to fly anywhere, HDZero isn't gonna come close to cutting it. It's simply their Tech! And, if you're one of the many thinking HDZero is open source, it's not! And No engineer who's spent as much as Carl has on his tech, and put soooo much time into it, is ever gonna give it away for free (open source it). So, forget that as a reason to buy it.
There is no need to upgrade to the new goggles anyways if you are not upgrading to upcoming modules. The image in Avata is better yes but not better enough to have to swap all. Only reason I see to get new goggles is to fly Avata with head tracking. Again. This is a combo not aimed at most hard core FPV flyers. At least that’s what it seems to me. It’s aimed at entry and semi pro and pro Mavic style pilots. And for old experienced pilots tired of building and looking for easy pure fun flight time like me. Building was just the only way then to get naked GoPro like flight and recording. Not any more.
@@DOJIELDIENVE the system is mature and solid. My fear is DJI support for the "old" vistas and airunits. My goggles are fine and, I can use them on my correction glasses. I really think this is great. But knowing DJI, it is soon to end. So Hdzero, avatar or analog, maybe Orqa. Just not going to dump thousands on new DJI gear, should they discontinue what I already have.
@@KOrnhOliO1 If you live in the EU, Avata has worse penetration than HDZero, but with much worse latency. Hopefully someone comes up with a hack, but until then it's quite poor and not really much use in the EU.
When adjusting these new goggles I am reminded that I have a dominant eye. Not so much in the old goggles. This tends to happen on smaller goggles where the optics are pushed past the limit. I wish they where more like HDO2 optics (perfect for me). Hopefully there will be better foam released.
i dont understand why they scale the whole screen. Why not scale the UI only? I don't mind washed out corners as long as my UI is clearly readable. The scaling should only affect the UI...
Hello! very good your tutorial! My question is, using the v2 glasses, is the difference in what is seen in the glasses very noticeable? between old air unit (with dji camera) and o3. Considering old air unit in high quality mode and 50mbps. Regards !
Yesterday I got to fly the avata for the first time, it was in the evening. I was pretty in love with the quad itself. Now as for the goggles I share similar problems but not as severe? The display was set to 90% and at the time -- I didn't know you could change it. The corners aren't blocked, the lower right corner is a little blurry for me. 100% display scale however is no good at all. If I wanted it to be "perfect" for the image, I would probably need to drop it to 80% and get it further to the center. Lame. I have a much bigger issue with them pushing down on my nose, which I figured could be solved with a little thicker foam. I just tried pulling them away from my face a little bit as a test to see where my nose would be more comfortable, which of course puts my eyes further away from the optics, and surprise surprise, at 90%... the sides and especially the lower right corner for me gets significantly worse (this is after fine tuning each eye holding it this way also). I'm disappointed now having noticed this. Also the corners are not blurred, but definitely dark, this was easier to notice today in better light conditions. -_- It is really annoying. (sorry for posting this twice? i was editing it and youtube somehow nuked it...)
Wow. Guess I'm lucky. The goggles 2 fit me great, no light leak and I'm not getting any of that black around the edges. My IPD is just about centered. And I no longer need to wear glasses now that I can just focus each side. Thus far I'm thrilled with them. I've been flying low around trees with no breakup either. Well, sounds like I got lucky because I'm loving this setup.
I agree but try to wear those googles as short as possible. Does anybody notice how fast your head heats up using those for a short time ?? Is it the strong signal / antennas so close to your head ??
I'll stick with my V2 goggles. I got the better foam, got a little square of pluck foam and slowly but surely plucked tiny pieces away until it's gets rid of ALL of the light leak around my nose. That newest foam makes the V2's fit perfect, and I got a Fat Strap to replace that over the head strap. I honestly thought that worked pretty good, except when you wanted to pull the goggles up and have them sit on the top of your forehead. WRONG! The Fat Strap works soooooo much better it's not even close and they have dozens of patterns, so something for everyone! Comfort is AmaZing! I also ordered prescription lenses from RHO-Lens in Germany and OH MY GOD! My V2's are ULTRA CRYSTAL CLEAR! From one side of the screen to the other! P E R F E C T ! What a great value those lenses were! No having to fidget with my glasses to get them in and out of the goggles. And, so much clearer! So, get the new foam, get a 2" x 2" piece of foam and trim it ever so slowly for perfect nose fit. Get a Fat Strap and be amazed at how great it works! And if you wear glasses, get RHO - Lens to make you custom lenses to your prescription! Mine V2's can't get any better! Seriously, they are incredible! 😎🤘 PS....add the URUAV analog adapter and the V3 metal case ($29 for the pair) and have analog on or off in 3 seconds! Solid as a rock, works with any analog module, and it doesn't stick out a mile like the BD one Andy had on his goggles. Because of that, I was able to add the very thin and stealth iFlight Crystal antenna array to my V2's and that made analog and digital PURE PERFECTION!
Fatstrap is ace. Have had mine for a while and it just works perfectly with those V2/V1. The sponge foam is better but even the DJI stock foam was not even close to as bad as the comfort/fit issues I personally have with the new Goggles 2. I do not know what they were thinking by plastic molding the nose with such a flat shape by default. It screws people like me with big nose bridges.
@@ogfpv1206 That's the most stupid thing DJI did! I got that little rechargeable battery with the V2 goggles and it was worthless! So worthless, I sold it! The V2 goggles didn't seem to work as well on it, because as soon as that tiny battery lost some power, the goggles didn't function as well... Not as solid. Then it would drop a little more and they wouldn't work anymore. Even though it still had power, they'd get below 7 volts and forget it! I now use 4s 1200mw and not only is it rock solid, but it runs for a long, long time per pack. No comparison how much better 4s works! 😎🤘
Drone-Hacks has had a Avata fcc unlock for a few days now, though it means you cannot use the dji fly app, as it resets the region. Then you have to run the companion app again to unlock it.
I have the same problem with the blurred edges with my CobraX. John Cuppi has a review of the DJI goggles where he also mentiones the same kind of problem with the DJI goggle as you are experiencing
This is such a breath of fresh air. Everybody is hyping the avata and goggles 2 so much its really tough to understand whats hype and whos actually being honest. Thank you!!! liked and subscribed because of this.
Is the blurriness and vignetting at the edges worsened the wider your ipd? My ipd is 71mm but the v2s only go to 70mm.. the goggles 2 go to 72mm.. trying to decide between the v2s and goggles 2 when I purchase my avata imminently..
For me dji goggles 2 work just fine and im sticking with them. the question is how do i get a live video stream out of them? there are boradcasting option, which has zero documentation. will yo be the person to figure that out?
@ AndyRC Not a single reviewer mentioned anything about the new goggles cannot use analog module. Is that right, or I'm wrong? This is MASSIVE deal breaker. V2 is the way.
Can use Modded DJI Fly FCC App. I am using it for M3P and now Avata with transmitter power of 30dB on both 2.4 and 5.8Ghz. And developer updates fly app regularly latest being v. 1.7.4. Just need to connect goggles to mobile device running this app and forces FCC and range issue solved.
I haven’t been able to use the v1 or v2 dji goggles due to them not fitting my head (can fit my hand between my nose and goggles while wearing) these new ones might have a chance of working for me, I’ll have to try some.
Andy, did you attempt to bind to the Avata with the full size DJI RC transmitter? Im thinking its not bc original DJI FPV wouldnt bind to the full size DJI transmitter
You got it !! I'm having the same issues, nose crushing, blur of bottom image that disappear a bit if i keep goggles far from face, may be the foam (waiting to be available, as well as the rc) will help.True review....if no air unit compatibility, i guess i 'll sell everything and go with fatshark or another goggle brand.
So I have the mini 2. Also loads of FPV quads. If I want this do I need to buy it with a controller?. I'm not sure about that motion stick thing it comes with
for now only the avata works with these goggles. There have been leaked screenshots it supporting the mavic drones. No idea what controllers will be compatible other than the controller V2 and the motion controller (only with the avata for now) I wouldn't recommend the motion controller for anyone personally. Even worse for me as I'm left handed and its a right hand only controller
So I guess you will send it back ;) Thanks for the honest review. Good contrast to all the influencers DJI selects to get good sales. Had no idea that the goggles are that bad of a fit. Let's just hope the DJI FPV v2 goggles (the older) are well supported by o3 airunits then. I found the image quality between vista and DJI FPV Racer quite noticeable - and for me it was the only real benefit of the potatoe ;) Greets, Mario
Hi. I cut away the foam around the nose, and now its okay fit. A little blurry in the corners is not important. Wen jo fly alot you mostly concentrete on the center, and you get use to it. The more i fly the more the Googles is okay. No fog for me and WOW for the size. The noise from the drone is a problem and certenly the 25 mw also are. Dont by it, if there dont come a hack.
Glad you found a solution but having to cut away part of 600 dollar goggles is not something I'm prepared to do. Especially when that part costs 49 quid to replace in the uk
Some do have the imu in there but I'd be surprised if they ever enable it. Personally unless it can be converted to a pwm signal and sent to a flight controller or radio controller it's a useless feature
i am verry happy with my v2 and my first air unit from when i started learning still works. i have 2 working air units so im good, dji just doesnt want our money right now
I have not had that rounded corner issue with my goggles 2, I can see the whole screen. I will admit that the OSD data (words) are a bit blurred but not as bad as you are showing here. I have found that for me, if I move the goggles down just a fraction on my nose, the blur goes away for the most part, but then there is an issue with it hurting my nose lol. Great video and information though. Thank you!
Wonder how it will be if the new air unit can do 4:3 aspect, if it makes this edge problem any better. Definitely seems like the OSD elements need to be movable, more into center screen.
oh man I was looking if a youtuber tell the truth about the same problem that I have with my DJI Google 2 with bluring edge and vignette! and here you go I fund you....thank you so much advise to everyone to looking to buy the google 2 , I will wait to have DJI fix this ...stay with the V2
great stuff, the old caveat applies though, everybodys face is different, took me a while to get the v2's to be comfy and avoid pulling my lower eyelids down. some wear in is to be expected, how they sit on the nose is probably the critical area, the nose should take the bulk of the weight but fairly high up like glasses do.
I have gogle v2. But I will not use it with avata, because of problem after upgrading fw to be compatibile with the new drone. Now I have 1.00.0600 fw with FC hack (700 mW). After upgrading, hack will doesnt work :/
I get a bit of blurring but not even as bad as you get . My eyes are almost as wide as the lenses spread . The big problem for me is no M mode with the Motion controller . I have the Mavic Pro and the White goggles also ( that feels like you have I have a tire on my head) so the Goggles 2 is very nice compared . Another thing I like is , Head Tracking used with the Motion Controller allows shots I can't get no other way . We here in the USA have the 10km range but you can't fly straight out and reach 10km , however none of my other drones hold signal even close to as good through trees as the Avata Pro View set . Sorry to hear you hate the Goggles 2 but for all of the viewers watching this review , , , don't take this video as the cut in stone review , I love them and have no problem with comfort for the length of time it takes to use a full battery ( at the point where I remove them to change drone batteries anyway) so some faces won't fit perfectly , but guess what NO! goggles fit every face as where light leaks in with people with small faces (like women) and the Goggles V2 . If you live close to where there is a DJI outlet go try a set to see how you like them , if not read ALL! the pro's and cons before you make up your mind and think about how they will work for you and if it works out the Goggles V2 sound better to you buy them but trying them is worth 1000 review videos . it may be worth the trip to a DJI outlet for you .
Strangely the mini 3 pro is faster in sport mode than the Avata in sports mode, yes manual mode you can go faster but it makes you think? The range is quite rubbish on the Avata if in CE mode just put a tree between you and the Avata and you’ll see what I mean?…Also why didn’t they fit a fan to prevent fogging? It does have a fan but it’s only to cool the electronics, they could have ducted the fan to de fog and cool the electronics at the same time but they chose not to..🤔🤔😳😳
I Didn't have a problem with fogging for me personally just everything else. But everyone's faces are different. Id say if it has no antifog its probably because it sucks enough juice out of the bespoke batteries as it is. As for speed a mavic has no manual mode (acro) so talking about speeds on the hobby side is irrelevant. I think it clocked about 60mph in manual mode.
Hi Andy. Thank you for the video! Do the Goggles V2 have a similar penetration or distance reach than the Goggle 2 (the new ones) in the case we were in the US?.
Andy, the blurring at the edges is the side effect of making the goggles flatter. This decreased the lens-to-screen distance, which required proportionally stronger lenses to view the screens. The stronger the lenses the more optical aberrations they have, this is unavoidable with traditional lenses. Fresnel lenses are more adaptable, but they have their own set of problems. Other designs use light polarizer films and reflection films on lens surfaces to effectively double the lens-to-screen distance, but these systems are very expensive and waste 90% of light, so they require much brighter screens. DJI Goggles 1 had by far the best optical quality of all goggles precisely because of their huge form factor, and I wish DJI had just stuck with it.
Drone tweaks do a modified DJI Fly app which is FCC which works with Mavic 3 , Mini 3 pro etc and I have heard from developer of that that users using it with Avata are getting it into FCC
Great video! Also a very dramatic downside is that the Goggles 2 are fogging up like crazy. Besides what you highlighted here, the fogging issues makes them 100% un flyable in summer when it gets hot. I hope DJI will come to their senses scrapping the Goggles 2 soon rather than later and giving us a Goggles 3.
OMG ITS so true????? WTF!!! 800€ paid for glasses that fog up??? I hope you are a very sweaty person. And it doesn't happen to everyone! everything and so I also sweat a lot!
Never bothered with DJI,I see them has a typical corporate trying to get every penny out of you,I love the open source market, far more completion and much better on my pocket, looking forward to hdzero products, that's the direction I'm going if I ever upgrade from analog
Sticking with my v2’s, that’s why I ordered the drone only pack (didn’t see the need to overspend). Do you reckon good old B3YOND will get something sorted soon?
Can confirm after 5 minutes testing and not being able to adjust a sharp image.. I already thought I have done things wrong. Goggles 2 absolutely disappointing also hyped by so many reviewers. But I have to admit that the blast I felt from the previous gen with the sharp image is now coming from the head Tracking the flight stick and the top gun feeling....
There are, of course, the usual naughty ways to get around this, but we're all good well behaved people who fly our analog rigs at 25mw and definitely don't have a NACO file on our air units and vistas ;)
@@AndyRCchannel I've had frame stutters and around 10mbit LOS 150-200m away, high above field/water, different spots. And now 600m 50mbit, without any problems, 300m away behind trees without any stutter. About the same I'm getting with my custom 5 inch quad on 1200mw vista. Only way to really test it, is to reset it again. I'll try if that's possible.
@@AndyRCchannel I hope so :) The reason I went for that hack is because I want to use it for livestreaming. Connecting it to the normal Fly app will reset the hack with most mods :(
Thanks Andy, so many great points in this review. One issue you didn't encounter, but have heard in another reviewer mentions is the DJI Goggles 2 displays are more prone to fogging. (Mads Tech) It seems related to displays being closer to face, smaller volume, and a quieter fan. The Avata drone does have a couple features that most cinedrones lack. That is position hold and altitude hold capability. Given Betaflight is more targeted to racer and freestyle drone flyers, such feature have not been a priority. Such features are useful to indoor video, and would help new drone pilot get up to speed faster with fewer crashes. INAV software offers position and altitude hold, but they more meant for outdoor use, and would require upgrading/retuning; so not something a newer, or less experience pilot would be attempting.
This wasn't meant to be a review of the avata drone. It was meant to see if its an improvement over the current vistas and air units. But to answer your questions I didn't get any fogging on a very hot and humid day. I think that's down to my face shape and getting so much light leak enough air was getting in not to fog them up, This will be different for everyone. Its not a good drone at all indoors despite what you may have been fed. The camera is super outside but very bad in low light with lots of ISO noise. You can see a bit of it in the error i was getting before i connected it to the fly app. Indoors in say a home or house the sensors don't know what to do when there is not enough light and the model starts to do things out of your control. If it gets intermittent GPS indoors It is extremely sketchy. It will often go into RTH indoors when it loses signal which will send it flying into the ceiling. You can set signal loss to hover or land but again with sketchy indoor gps combined with sketchy information being fed from the below sensors it will end up in a crash a lot and also cause some property damage. It caused a big gash in the wall in my house for example when this happened. Hope this clears some things up that you may not have seen elsewhere
@@AndyRCchannel Thanks. I realize this was not an Avata review. Comment was more to why it might appeal to non-hobbyists. I have assumed that DJI drones would use their ultrasonic and optical sensors when indoors. Perhaps misguided (and expect many consumers/beginners could be). The points you make are very valid concerns. Sorry to hear you experienced a wall gash. Not owning any DJI products beyond goggles and vistas, I have little detail knowledge of what a DJI drone is capable, or not.
As usual, in FPV, we wait for the better iteration. I always believe in buying things after they matured, like the DJI Goggles V2. Goggles 2 promises better penetration like in Nurk's review, and that is without any aftermarket patch/stubby
This is why I never buy a new DJI product until it has been out for 6 months. The people who get the drone before the release date generally don’t have much bad to say. Even if they are not paid they may be getting the drone free. To me that’s payment and pressure. I also think these people are feeling special and don’t want to piss DJI off. They like being the first one to put out the videos. It helps their channel and even if they will have to pay or return that drone they still feel like a “ somebody” and being first helps their channel clicks and views. The other reason is the DJI drones usually get better with updates and they always save an update for when the initial sales boom wears off. Like the Mavic Air 2. After about a year they all of the sudden came out with a 2x Zoom for 4K and 2k and up to 4x for 1080p. That probably convinced some people who were on the fence to pull the trigger on the purchase. And don’t forget about sales. Amazon Prime Day and other sales can save you quite a bit.
For me, one eye can see the corners, so since the other eye can't you get that slightly fuzzy corner. Also, I tend to want to kick the bottom of the goggles outwards to get the bottom text to not be fuzzy. But this happens with my v1 goggles also. With the original v1 goggles foam, I could see clearly, but they didn't feel good and the light leaks. The new soft foam gave me fuzzy edges, so I cut it down a lot in certain places to fit my face. Unfortunately, this Goggles 2 foam is already quite thin, so like you said, the vegnetting probably won't get any better. Except for me, I can probably just add spacers on the cheeks and cure the fuzzy OSD and nose crimp at the same time. Hopefully,... But I'm still pretty stocked about them. I put a high value on resolution, and these are awesome to me while flying. It's just the menu focus, and fogging that really irritate me. Maybe when there's more airflow around the nose, there will be less fogging.
THANK YOU! Finally, someone being honest about this. My biggest issue is that I haven't been able to get them in focus no matter what I've done. I don't have glasses and don't usually have eye issues. But trying to run the simulator with these goggles on was a constant battle to keep things in focus. Not to mention everything else you've said. Pretty disappointed and I don't know if I'd just be better off buying the flysmart combo with the old goggles.
I think RemoteID plays alot into the release of the AirUnits 03's. I'm willing to bet they will be RemoteID compliant and why I'll stay clear of them. Already hacked my V1 set of goggles for full osd features which works well. I'll keep my og V2 goggles stock for Hope's that the 03's AU is compatible and DOESN'T have GPS embedded within it for RemoteID compliance.
Fortunately with the WTFOS on the v1/v2 goggles we already got a canvas OSD! So I hope there is still features to unlock that we can expect. More service life for the goggles I already own. ;)
Shockingly, for the first time in my life, I'm the one percent of people who sit in the sweet spot with no vignetting. The lack of a fan did get the side eye though
The DJI Avata works for me and I plan on buying one as its basically plug and play. Unfortunately the diy ones have the soldering/tuning barrier which hasnt yet been elevated to plug and play nor close to this. A very interesting review and I will be using my DJI Goggles V2 with this…. Thanks Laurie NZ.
Spoken like someone that has absolutely no idea what they're talking about. First of all, "bind and fly's" have been out for years now. I have a Roma F5 that I've never soldered on and required almost zero programming or tuning. Second, they have plug and play quads now.
@@dangerous8333 and also, this is due to the ARF GepRC one I bought about two years ago turning out to be a DUD !!! The silly thing doesnt fly, I suspect its a DUD flight controller board! FYI……
Just tried the new goggles yesterday and I'll have to say the form factor is actually awesome, just not for Westerners. I'm Asian and have a really, REALLY flat and wide face (think Genghis khan statue level of flatness) and DJI goggles 2 is actually the first goggles EVER for me to have zero light leaks, I've already had good luck with DJIs previous goggles with stock foam and the goggles 2 is a even better fit, while everything else always gave me a huge light leak in the center. I guess the logic behind DJI's design is that you can always add shims/thicker foam to shrink the form factor down to fit a smaller, rounder Westerners face but there's no way to go the other way around, kinda like how you should always buy your shoes one size bigger if you have no idea how the fitment is like on that specific pair of shoes. Plus DJI is an Asian company.
I'd need nose surgery for these goggles to fit me. Shims will not help. Westerners have a much higher bridge on their nose and that has not been taken into account
Apparently the dronehacks app is supposed to work for getting fcc in EU. Not tried myself though. Also wondering if the goggles are getting fogged up for you, as others seems to have had this problem?
I have seen your RCG and YT since the Hubsan. You have always be true to how things are you are probably the only one I actually truly trust for information. And I really don't trust anyone before I have see it myself and tested it. Many thank you 🙏 😊 Alf

I think people (including me) are feeling a bad case of FOMO but this video helps a LOT. if you have a system that works and you’re happy with it no need to spend extra money. There’ll always be something seemingly better than what you have.
Nailed it.
I’m so happy to have Apple-certified ears for AirPods and DJI-certified face for these goggles. They are an absolute perfect fit for me
As always Andy, you get to the nub of the matter and independently point out those annoying details about products that others ignore or gloss over. And I agree, these major manufacturers will always stop communicating with reviewers if there is any hint of negativity - as I found out to my own cost. Keep up the great work.
Drone-Hacks already released CE Mode to FCC Mode for the Avata.
In summary, at least for me, this system is a pass. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on the upcoming Hdzero goggles. DJI has lost me on no backward compatibility.
Me too... I'm gutted. That decision has cost them any future business from me. I'm just hoping they change their minds..
Welp. Gonna stick with my v1s and v2 until a goggles 2 v2 comes out.
You're a genius
Hello! very good your tutorial!
Exact same issues with May not being able to focus to goggles. Also the clipped in pad is half disconnected from mine
Thanks Andy for your truth and genuine love for this hobby!
The blury issue, i have in every google in the old v2 i have it too, not as big but it is there...
It seems like you're using the foveated mode, where resolution is larger at the center and lower at the edges. I guess it can be disabled.
I love the DJI Googles 2. I haven't experienced any of the blurred screen. I see a perfect screen at 100%
I'll stick with my V2 goggles.
PS....add the URUAV analog adapter and the V3 metal case ($29 for the pair) and have analog on or off in 3 seconds!
You also get way more battery life. The new googles only support 2s.
The more that comes out about this the more Walkfail becomes more appealing. Awesome honest review dude.
Nice video! Do you have edges in the Goggles and and blurring with narrow IPD fully inwards? My eyes IPD is 58 mm.
Drone-Hacks has had a Avata fcc unlock for a few days now, though it means you cannot use the dji fly app, as it resets the region.
Then you have to run the companion app again to unlock it.
its not free and you cant use it with the app. That will be fixed ;)
I have the same problem with the blurred edges with my CobraX.
John Cuppi has a review of the DJI goggles where he also mentiones the same kind of problem with the DJI goggle as you are experiencing
In conclusion do you recommend getting the avata combo with the v2 googles vs tje googles 2??
I have the original V1s and original air units. No complaints. I won't be changing.
Finally an true honest and very detailed review of the actual goggles! Thank you...Thank you...Thank you!!
For me dji goggles 2 work just fine and im sticking with them. the question is how do i get a live video stream out of them? there are boradcasting option, which has zero documentation. will yo be the person to figure that out?
Thanks!
thank you :)
Danke!
@ AndyRC
Not a single reviewer mentioned anything about the new goggles cannot use analog module. Is that right, or I'm wrong?
This is MASSIVE deal breaker. V2 is the way.
no analogue no
My goggles V2 is a keeper for its future compatibility
Can use Modded DJI Fly FCC App. I am using it for M3P and now Avata with transmitter power of 30dB on both 2.4 and 5.8Ghz. And developer updates fly app regularly latest being v. 1.7.4. Just need to connect goggles to mobile device running this app and forces FCC and range issue solved.
I haven’t been able to use the v1 or v2 dji goggles due to them not fitting my head (can fit my hand between my nose and goggles while wearing) these new ones might have a chance of working for me, I’ll have to try some.
did you ever try djis upgraded foam linked in the description? sounds like not
Andy, did you attempt to bind to the Avata with the full size DJI RC transmitter? Im thinking its not bc original DJI FPV wouldnt bind to the full size DJI transmitter
If it binds to the grey one it will 100 percent not bind to the air unit controller. Different protocol
I’m wondering if I should trade for v2 goggles. I ordered RHO lenses for the Goggles 2 and still waiting.
I wonder how new the Fat shark Dominator HD goggles will stack up to these 🤔
25 mw is ridiculous. Waiting for AU. Keeping V2.
So I guess you will send it back ;)
Thanks for the honest review. Good contrast to all the influencers DJI selects to get good sales. Had no idea that the goggles are that bad of a fit. Let's just hope the DJI FPV v2 goggles (the older) are well supported by o3 airunits then.
I found the image quality between vista and DJI FPV Racer quite noticeable - and for me it was the only real benefit of the potatoe ;)
Greets, Mario
I agree
Nurk just released a short saying backwards compatibility on way... says he spoke with dji
With the v2? That's the news I want
Can I get head tracking with my V2 goggles with the Avata drone?
Some do have the imu in there but I'd be surprised if they ever enable it. Personally unless it can be converted to a pwm signal and sent to a flight controller or radio controller it's a useless feature
Andy, you did not mention anything about fogging which i understand is also a big issue with the goggles.
If I found it to be a problem for me then I'd have mentioned it. Don't get any fogging with them
i am verry happy with my v2 and my first air unit from when i started learning still works.
i have 2 working air units so im good, dji just doesnt want our money right now
Hi Andy, the face pad is also pressing hard on my nose and forehead. Flying is impossible with these glasses. I have returned them.
Thank you!
IPD adjustment also moves the screen doesn’t it?
changes the eye prescription with a twist
Wonder how it will be if the new air unit can do 4:3 aspect, if it makes this edge problem any better. Definitely seems like the OSD elements need to be movable, more into center screen.
Those goggles are definitely too flat on me as well.
Did you say 'head track' with the v2?? How? 🤔

@@AndyRCchannel holy sh*t!! 😲
oh man I was looking if a youtuber tell the truth about the same problem that I have with my DJI Google 2 with bluring edge and vignette! and here you go I fund you....thank you so much
advise to everyone to looking to buy the google 2 , I will wait to have DJI fix this ...stay with the V2
great stuff, the old caveat applies though, everybodys face is different, took me a while to get the v2's to be comfy and avoid pulling my lower eyelids down. some wear in is to be expected, how they sit on the nose is probably the critical area, the nose should take the bulk of the weight but fairly high up like glasses do.
If you live close to where there is a DJI outlet go try a set to see how you like them , if not read ALL! the pro's and cons before you make up your mind and think about how they will work for you and if it works out the Goggles V2 sound better to you buy them but trying them is worth 1000 review videos . it may be worth the trip to a DJI outlet for you .
what rates are you using on the Avata and DJI FPV Racer?
how do you know its 25mw output?
He's back everyone!
Nice review Andy !
Thanks Andy! Just upgraded from analogue to the old v2 goggles, now I feel justified for my choice.
Best review of the goggles 2 on the web! This can save a lot of folks a lot of money...
Where you gone all OK?
Drone tweaks do a modified DJI Fly app which is FCC which works with Mavic 3 , Mini 3 pro etc and I have heard from developer of that that users using it with Avata are getting it into FCC
why you would like to have stabilized video to your goggles while flying? it would be much harder to feel drone
so that you know the shot you are getting in real time? all their other drones do it. personally i wouldnt want it.. but at least have the option?
Yes in Europe 250 meters loss signal...
I love how in depth and technical this is. Thanks for sharing your insights.
Is the drone really locked to 25 mw? Has the DJI FPV Drone the same issue?
in Europe yes in America FCC Is 1w I believe
@@AndyRCchannel thanks for the reply🙌
There are, of course, the usual naughty ways to get around this, but we're all good well behaved people who fly our analog rigs at 25mw and definitely don't have a NACO file on our air units and vistas ;)
The drone-tweaks FCC hack already works, I've tried it. I had 150-200m range LOS, now easily 500-600m.
my DB meter says otherwise I think you are experiencing a placebo effect there 25mw LOS can easily do 600m try flying behind some brick objects
@@andytroy Dont worry we will get it unlocked :) for free
@@AndyRCchannel I hope so :) The reason I went for that hack is because I want to use it for livestreaming. Connecting it to the normal Fly app will reset the hack with most mods :(
The fact that the Goggles V2 have a lower frame rate than the FPV goggles is a huge deal breaker for me
DJI has yet to excite me
what have you tried?
Is there an image scaler also in the v1??
Yes there is
@@AndyRCchannelI never realized :))
Lol you‘re the goat, I was gonna buy the expensive kit just to get the goggles 2 now not so much anymore
25 milliWatts is a showstopper for me. Insane regulations.
Try turning your screen down to 80 or 90 percent to get rid of the fuzzy corners. Worked well for me.
Sounds like you paid for your Avata, these other reviewers who obviously didn’t, I just ignore.
Honestly mate, like I mentioned the other day, get WTFOS flashed and away you go
Fortunately with the WTFOS on the v1/v2 goggles we already got a canvas OSD! So I hope there is still features to unlock that we can expect. More service life for the goggles I already own. ;)
Shockingly, for the first time in my life, I'm the one percent of people who sit in the sweet spot with no vignetting. The lack of a fan did get the side eye though
thanks as always for your time and discussion!
The DJI Avata works for me and I plan on buying one as its basically plug and play. Unfortunately the diy ones have the soldering/tuning barrier which hasnt yet been elevated to plug and play nor close to this. No issues with the goggles for me. They’re not perfect for me, but very close. It’s difficult to make perfect goggles for every face shape and nose.
No issues but not perfect :-) I'd call those issues
Also wondering if the goggles are getting fogged up for you, as others seems to have had this problem?
no fog for me on a sunny humid day
