      @@dangerous8333 It really is just an incremental update, they bolted on a new chip to an existing platform to improve it rather than have their OEM creating a new chip design; so other than the goggles going OLED which is far superior to what we had; whats the big deal about 1080p video feed when most of us carry hero 10/11's when we want something usable? There is also the FPVWTF hacks that put so much life into the old system that the O3 stuff should have DJI hanging their heads in absolute shame for abandoning the old system so soon.

    I see so many people concerned with the quality of footage after the flight, but for me having the amazing live view quality of the Goggles 2 is the best part of flying. For FPV I really find the best experience is while you're actually flying and in control, not watching the footage afterwards. The detail and clarity in the Goggles 2 is insane!

    Thanks a ton Joshua. You're still the best with giving the right amount of information on a product. That is a big step in HD fpv. And if I have extra money in the future I probably will switch to O3. But for now my V1 goggles are plenty for me. I don't really need extra resolution, normally I zoom out the picture in them because of very big FOV, so that leaves only slightly better signal quality and it is really not enough for me to start changing my gear to new system ).

      Bro, Black Friday is in a few days. I suggest you go out and find yourself a Caddx Vista or Runcam Link (only the cameras are different) and get flying DJI digital RIGHT AWAY! Try to get a 120fps camera...i.e....not a Polar and not a Nebula Nano V2, and not a Link with the Phoenix camera. Those are all 60fps cameras. They have about 10ms of extra latency. Still very flyable, but get a 120fps to see what the potential is.
      Go for a Caddx Nebula Pro, Nebula Pro Nano, or a Runcan Link with the Falcon camera. The Wasp camera from Runcam also has 120fps, but no adjustable parameters for saturation, contrast, etc. in the V2 goggles, and it's stuck in 4:3 aspect ratio - So you only get the square 4:3 image (Old CRT TV image size), not an HD rectangular image of 16:9.
      The most these RETAIL for is $165.
      That's ALL YOU NEED! Not that much to get flying digital!!! 😁 - AND, you'll not want to fly analog much ever again once you fly digital - IT'S SO DAMN GOOD! 😎🤘

      i agree i have the v2 goggles which are really box goggles and a pair of old dominators and i am still content with both them. there's not enough improvement to justify 600- 1k for a new set of goggles and a air unit, just being realistic. if i didn't have the v2 already it might be different. besides when flying im not stopping to smell the roses at those speeds so an improved image would be for recording at most and just use an older gopro session 5 for that

    When I bought my Avata, I was hesitant buying it with the goggles 2, because so many people complain about the fit, especially pressing on the nose... and I have a beak... but I went for the goggles 2 and so happy that I did. They are a perfect fit and a lot more comfortable than the v2s, with my glasses on.
    The decision now is which of my quads get the new Air O3!

  • @illuminati1911
    @illuminati1911 2 года назад +2

    I'd take that OLED statement with a massive grain of salt. I tried both of these goggles with Avata and could barely tell any difference. Biggest difference with the goggles 2 and v2 was that the FOV of the goggles 2 is MUCH smaller and they don't get fully focused despite the adjustments.

    I purchased the DJI integra to try out the Dji 03 air unit but prefer using it with the FPV goggles v2. The picture quality looks so good on the older goggles, and it is more comfortable for me to wear. The size and weight are marginal for me so I’ll go the route of buying the Dji 03 to replace all my old caddx units. Once the goggles 3 adds support for the Dji o3, I will switch over to that moving forward.

The IPD adjustment of the goggle got rid of the blurriness I experienced in the v1 &v2 goggles when I had the lens evenly spaced. The only thing I care about and the only reason I may someday get the new system is the extra range and penetration. The 720 video is good enough for me but you can never have too much range or penetration to ensure that you don't lose your quad.

    I bought the Avata with the goggles 2 as my first fpv and ever since I’ve watched so many of your videos. Looks like I’ll be buying a quad with the 03 air unit and learn to do some mountain surfing and chasing my friends on their mountain bikes here in Switzerland 🇨🇭
    Thanks for all work you put into your videos!

  • @Shooter_FPV

    I have the Avata, and it looks like the same setup. Glad there is a screw mount option, but I think most just double-side tape it to the frame anyway (I like screws TBH...) The fit of the camera up front is definitely going to be an issue, especially if frame manufacturers have to redesign for just 3-4mm of extra width. The quality of the Avata camera is pretty decent, so maybe some will use it instead of a GoPro, to save weight. Great review as always!!!!

    Excellent review, as always. One question - is there SD card recording on both the goggles 2 and the O3 air unit, and if so what is the difference? Is it like the previous generation where the goggles record lower quality video?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  2 года назад

      Yes, SD card on both, but also internal storage on the air unit if you prefer not to use an SD card. It's exactly like all other FPV systems -- the goggles can only record what they receiver, which is degraded compared to the on-board recording.

    Please do another video comparing the new Goggles 2 to the V2 goggles AFTER you have COMPLETELY TWEAKED the adjustable parameters in the V2 goggles, available with 120fps cameras. This CAN make a HUGE difference in how the image in the V2 goggles looks when compared to the OLED Goggles 2. I anticipated most V2 goggle owners don't tweak their settings for things like contrast, saturation, brightness, sharpness, etc. BUT, when tweaked, they will get the V2 goggles much closer to in goggle image quality when compared to the Goggles 2. I'd love to see how close you can get them. Thanks very much for considering doing this comparison video for us. 😎🤘

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  2 года назад +2

      The bottom line for me is there's no way to make up the absurd brightness and contrast ratio of OLED. You simply can't do it. You can make an LCD screen look as good as it can, and an OLED will still always blow it away.

    Have had the dji fpv a year now. Was not able to really use it much in the past 9 months. Just recently acquired the Avata w goggles 2 a couple of weeks ago and have now had time to put in to them. I'm finding my self chicken shit to go full manual as I really am a noob. I have been on the sim religiously lately to practice and really love the entire concept of fpv. As I prefer the video quality feedback from either dji drones and have no clue how you avid fpvers use blocky noisy analog without getting skull ache, I'm definitely going 03 in a RTF, currently on GetFPV in a 5inch s6. I'm not afraid to crash a custom as these are much easier for me to repair and I already have everything else dji, so this I think makes more sense. As I'm not familiar with part compatibility between all the manufacturers I have chosen to go RTF, but my next custom I will build myself after getting more familiar with components etc.

    Love that shirt! Also even though I don’t change much as for gear still like the info. The old air unit replaced my gopro. Even though I have new 11mini. But wouldn’t use it on quad to heavy and prefer older air units.
    #1 smaller controller works
    # 2 new form factor those are my favorites things that could cause me to upgrade.

    Hello. If someone goes digital and for DJI the best option is to go with the goggles 2. Someone who is on digital with the V2 there is no need to switch to the goggles 2 since the onboard recording of the AU O3 is amazing. Yes OLED is amazing but not necessary for freestyle,bando etc for me! And not to mention the 99 dollars for a replacement O3 camera!!

    Joshua....can you tell me.....The old DJI radio controller that you could link to any air unit or caddx (the plain looking black DJI controller with two antennas....rotor riot carries it).....does that controller link with the new air unit as well, or do you have to buy the new radio that came with FPV drone and Avata?

  • @yngndrw.

    From the store, the new antennas suggest that they are dual-polarised and dual-band. It's possible that even though it didn't allow you to select 2.4GHz, it was also using it during the tests which could explain why your aftermarket antennas didn't perform as well.
    It's also worth noting that the store claims that the Avata's ND filters fit onto this camera.
    The Googles 2 include head tracking, is this exposed as output channels by the O3 air unit? (With or without the controller)
    In the UK, the Googles 2 are listed at £729 while the FPV Goggles V2 are listed at £489.

    • @RossFlow
      @RossFlow 2 года назад

      I was thinking the same. Maybe a test with stock V2 antennas would be a good idea since they are dual band.
